Andy kicked up sand as he ran along the beach close to the water's edge. There was just something about the water that was so soothing to him and he was able to forget about the world for the moment. Of course that worked better when he wasn't busy staring at the hot ass of the girl running in front of him with her dog.
Taking a deep breath Andy picked up speed and caught up to the girl so that he was running alongside her.
"Great day for a run huh," Andy gestured to the sunny sky.
"I always take Sammy for a morning run on the beach when I can, Andy," the girl gestured to her yellow lab. Andy almost tripped over his own feet as he finally got a good look at the girl and realized it was Melissa he had been checking out.
"Careful there now," Melissa grinned, knowing she had caught Andy off guard, "haven't seen you out here before."
Andy cleared his throat in an effort to regain his composure, "Yeah well, after yesterday I felt like I needed to get in shape."
Melissa let her eyes trail over his nicely sculpted chest and washboard abs, "You don't look out of shape to me."
"Haha why thank you. Lookin' pretty fit over there yourself," Andy returned the compliment.
The two finished their run in companionable silence. Finally stopping to stretch and catch their breath.
"So, same time tomorrow?" Andy casually asked.
"Sure," Melissa smiled and the two went their separate ways, both sporting goofy grins on their faces.
"Alright, after yesterday's attack I want to get an idea of how you fight. What level you are at already and this will help me figure out what we need to work on," Kim explained to the group of teenagers sitting before her in workout gear.
"Ok, so who wants to go first?" Kim raised her eyebrow.
The teens all looked at each other, sharing an uneasy look. This was new to all of them. Sure most of them were athletes but none were really contact sports or had the actual objective of physically beating someone else with their own two hands.
"I'll go," Andy volunteered, trying to impress a certain someone. He confidently joined his leader on the mat and then faltered in uncertainty, "So uh, how does this work?"
"First we bow to each other, to show respect, and then we spar," Kim explained.
Andy awkwardly bowed and before he even had time to get in a fighting stance he found himself flat on his back, the wind knocked out of him.
"Have to be faster than that," Kim pointed out as he got back to his feet, "I'm smaller than you, which means I'm faster and I'm going to use that to my advantage."
Apparently he still wasn't fast enough, as he again ate mat. Pushing himself to his feet he was determined to throw at least one attack of his own. So he wildly swung out his arm in a punch but she quickly dodged it, grabbed his arm, and threw him back to the ground.
"Who's next?" the three girls quickly scooted back to make it look as if Jace had stepped forward. Looking around Jace noticed that he now stood alone and shot the girls a glare who just smiled innocently back.
He shuffled his feet nervously at the edge of the mat.
"What's wrong?" Kim got right to the point.
"You're…you're a girl," Jace rubbed the back of his neck.
"So?"
"I was taught to never hit a girl," Jace couldn't imagine hitting this petite woman standing in front of him.
"Well get over it," and she quickly launched herself at him. Jace backpedaled and threw his hands up to protect himself. However he couldn't bring himself to attack her.
Then, she punched him hard enough to draw blood and he went on the offensive.
But she was too experienced for him to land a hit and he smacked the mat hard.
"Done underestimating me because I'm a girl," Kim looked down on him, hands on her hips.
Rolling to his feet, Jace wiped the blood from his mouth.
"Next!"
Charissa smacked the mat with her hand in anger and jumped back to her feet. She soon met the mat again, to her dismay.
Rachel tried a different tactic and started off by charging right at Kim, but Kim used Rachel's larger size and momentum against her to toss her over her shoulder.
Melissa groaned and didn't even bother standing up, but just crawled off the mat to signal that she was done.
Kim again stood before the group of teenagers and took a moment to catch her breath, "Well, looks like I have my work cut out for me. Same time tomorrow and we will work on our fighting skills."
"Don't you think you were a little harsh?" Billy watched the sweaty and bruised teens limp out of the house after their training session.
"Do you want them to die?" Kim shot back. Used to his friend's temper by now, Billy wasn't fazed.
"No, but you have to remember that they don't have any prior martial arts experience. This team will be different from our team. With Jason, Trini and Tommy being highly experienced in martial arts it was easier to train the rest of us. At least they are all athletically inclined, unlike myself when I started out." Kim huffed but couldn't refute Billy's logic. Grabbing her water bottle from where it sat on the floor, she walked out. She needed to do some thinking. Billy grabbed his phone and retreated to his lab to do some tinkering.
Rachel rushed around the house, trying to find all of her beach gear. All the while with her younger brother, Ben, tailing her and begging to come along. Ben was the youngest of seven at age fifteen. Annoyed and frustrated, Rachel smacked him with her beach towel.
"Ouch!"
"For the thousandth time, no you cannot come with me!"
"Aww, c'mon," their older brother, Dean, one of the twins, ruffled Ben's hair. "He just wants to ogle Charissa in her bikini. Ben swatted at Dean's hand, red in the face.
"No I don't!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, are you not into girls?"
"What? No, that's not what I meant. I'm totally into Charissa. No, I mean, not just her. I like girls. GIRLS..." Ben spluttered, trying to defend himself.
Rachel groaned and took this opportune distraction to make her escape.
Rachel's teammate wasn't so lucky in the sibling department.
"But mom, I'm meeting my friends there," Andy whined like a child. His mother went about gathering papers into her briefcase.
"I heard you the first time, Andy. But it's Viola's day off. I couldn't possibly make her come watch Summer."
Andy crossed his arms, determined to put up a fight he knew he wasn't going to win. His mother did argue for a living, after all.
"Andrew. We just got our big break with the Lange case. I need to be at the office." Typical. The Carson parents were both high powered lawyers. AKA, workaholics. Viola was their nanny who watched over Andy's nine year old sister, Summer. "I don't think your father will be home until late either. You know where the take out menus are." She grabbed her briefcase and walked out the door.
The elder Carson child sighed.
"Alright, grab your beach stuff." Summer let out an excited yelp and raced up the stairs.
20 minutes later, after swinging by to pick Jace up, Andy's black jeep rolled into the parking lot adjacent to the beach. Andy grabbed his towel and Summer's beach bag and the three made their way to the sand. It didn't take them long to find the three blonde girls laying out, enjoying the pleasant warmth from the sun.
"Can I go play in the water? I see Melanie over there." Summer pointed towards the waves.
"Yeah, sure," Andy waved her off. "Just make sure to stay where I can see you. Don't wander too far into the water." Summer gleefully stripped off her sundress and ran to join her friends with a splash.
"Stuck with babysittig duty?" Melissa asked, raising her shades to her head as she turned to greet the boys. Andy grunted and plopped down next to her.
"Yup. Anyone else feel like they got totally worked this morning?" Andy ran the warm sand through his fingers and glanced over at his old and new friends. Well, sort of friends. They were getting there.
Billy dialed a number that he had copied from Kim's phone and patiently waited for an answer.
"Trini Scott."
"Trini! It's me, Billy!" Trini gasped in surprise.
"Billy? How are you calling me on this line?"
"I'm on Earth. I'm sorry, I should've contacted you sooner. But I wanted to figure some things out first." There was a long pause where neither spoke. "Trini, are you still present?"
"Yes. Oh Billy, I'm so glad you're back! Are you in Angel Grove? We should do lunch or something, we could round up the old crew."
"Actually, I'm not in Angel Grove. Not too far though, I've relocated to Reefside. For a new...job."
"Billy, that's great."
"Yes, actually, Kimberly and I are cohabitating."
"You're living with Kim?"
"Yes, I'm helping her out with the new gymnasium she's decided to open here."
"I didn't know she was moving back to California! That girl..."
"How's Jason doing?"
"He's good," Trini sighed. "Between his work as a cop and the long shifts at the hospital I feel like we haven't been making much time for each other lately."
"Oh," Billy didn't really know what to say in this situation. "I'm sure it will get better. How about everyone else? Do you keep in touch with many of the old guard? Unfortunately I've been out of contact with many of them due to the technology required to contact me while residing on Aquitar. Last I heard Kat was auditioning for a prestigious ballet company?"
"Yes, she actually joined the company and they are on tour in Europe right now. I've heard the reviews are good. I try to keep in touch, but unfortunately it's difficult when everyone's gone their own ways. Jason and I see Rocky and Aisha fairly frequently. They live the closest, when Aisha came back he moved in with her. They have a place in Stone Canyon near her veterinarian practice. Jason occasionally helps Rocky out at the Dojo."
"Good, good. Maybe we could get together for that lunch. But I don't know if Rocky has forgiven Kim, for what she did while in Florida." Being friends for so long, Billy could imagine the frown on the Asian beauty's face.
"Yeah, about that... Does Kim know that Tommy lives in Reefside now?"
