School was tense these days, Tori hovered beside Jade at all times, like a body guard, though a bit less outwardly threatening. Tori had switched to wearing a leather jacket, darker clothes and the most threatening face she could manage, which Jade thought was pretty damn good, but she was getting aggravated that the Latina was breathing down her neck at all times.
Today Jade had shown up early, intent on spending some time with her human friends before classes started. She sat in her car for a few minutes before she got out, double checked that the doors were locked before she walked through the doors of the school with her head held high and marched to her locker. After grabbing her texts books she hung around some of her human friends, reveling in the normalcy of it all.
Eventually though, they had to go do something for class for their team which Jade wasn't apart of. As soon as they were gone Jade rushed toward Sikowitz's class where she knew she would be safe. She didn't make it. A pair of dark Fae boys stepped in front of her and two more stepped up behind her, her heart jumped into her throat.
"Get away from me." Jade growled, tightening her hand around her bags strap, eyes flickering around to try and find an escape. With the four large guys surrounding her there was no chance for an escape.
"Oh scary." One of them grinned before they grabbed her and pulled her off of her feet, clamping a hand over her mouth so she couldn't scream. They dragged her, kicking and screaming, to the older less used part of the school, they tossed her into an abandoned classroom and one stepped in behind her, closing the door while the others stood guard outside.
Jade found Ryder staring around her when she pushed her hair out of her face, "Ryder, what the fuck are you doing?" Jade growled, glaring up at him from the floor, trying to let her anger overtake her fear, trying to do anything to get herself to focus, but she couldn't.
"Teaching you and your little friends a lesson." He grinned, "Your little light fae buddies think they're hot shit." He pulled her up and set her on her feet before punching her across the face, she spun and fell face first toward the floor, but used a desk to keep herself from hitting the ground and blinked away the water welling up in her eyes.
"Well they kinda are." Jade touched her cheek and winced.
Ryder dragged her off of her feet by the front of her shirt. She swung her nails into the side of his face and drove her knee into his stomach; he grunted and dropped her unceremoniously onto the ground.
Jade scrambled away from Ryder as quickly as possible and used a desk to pull herself to her feet, "kinda pathetic for a big bad wolf." She jeered a malicious smirk on her face.
Ryder's face turned red with anger, she could practically see the steam rolling from his ears, "You human scum." he snarled, clenching his fists and crouching, preparing to transform and launch himself at her.
"Careful puppy, use the pee pads." Jade teased, eyes scanning across the room rapidly, there was no way she was getting out through the doors, which were being guarded by two dark fae, and they were on the second floor so the window was out unless she wanted to break most of her bones.
Ryder growled and shoved the desks out of his way, prowling straight toward her, Jade backed up, shoving desks in front of her as she did. Ryder simply tossed them aside, some broke and some toppled over. He reached her in seconds and hauled her off of her feet, shoving her up against the wall, "oh tough guy." She gasped.
He growled in her face, his teeth morphed and changed and he snapped his teeth in her face and she felt cold fear shoot straight through her spine and stop her heart, "not so tough with out your succubitch." He threw her across the room; Jade slammed into the wall and toppled over some desks, all of the air was knocked out of her lungs.
"Well, I'm a little bit more than some weak human." Jade grunted, her iris' glowing faintly neon red. A desk flew across the room and slammed into Ryder's face knocking him down while Jade felt the rest of the energy drain from her body. Her head felt like it was filled with water and her vision spun and her stomach twisted, "asshole." She managed to heave the words out, holding herself up with stiff arms to keep from collapsing onto the tile, a satisfied smile played across her lips.
Ryder's forehead had a huge gash on it and blood rolled down his face, he wiped at it and when he saw the blood his eyes flashed. Jade stumbled to her feet clumsily, "You're going to be dead you little bitch." Ryder grabbed her again, punching her across the face and knocking her down before he grabbed her and threw her across the room again. Rushing at her, midway through the air he changed form. A scream caught in Jade's throat as the door burst open, the glass in the window shattering.
Tori looked terrifying then, clad in leather, iris' glowing blue, and the most frightening look on her face as she launched herself at Ryder, growling almost as loudly as he as she tackled him to the ground, stopping his change. She picked him up and threw him across the room into a wall, and for good measure she picked up a desk and threw it at him, as well.
"Jade, are you okay?" Tori asked.
"Brilliant." She groaned, getting to her feet and managing to stand on wobbly legs. Tori was at her side in an instant, pulling one of Jade's arms across her shoulder and wrapping her arm around Jade's back, "That wolf was about to die, but thanks for saving me the trouble."
"Anytime, babe." Tori laughed trying to lighten to situation as best as possible, "let's just get you cleaned up."
"Okay." Jade rested her head on Tori's shoulder as the girl towed her away, out the door past two unconscious dark fae, and down stairs to the bathroom. Inside Tori and Cat cleaned up Jade's face which was anything but pleasant, Trina stood guard at the inside of the bathroom and Beck, Andre and Robbie were outside.
"I hope she's alright." Robbie whispered.
"The little witch is fine." Rex muttered.
"Don't call her names." Robbie scolded; Rex rolled his eyes but didn't say anything else. Andre and Beck kept a careful eye on the group of dark fae on the other side of the school who were watching closely. When the door opened Trina and Cat stepped out the door closed behind them.
"I don't want you to Tori." Jade grumbled, crossing her arms over her chest as she glared at Tori.
"Suck it up, Princess." Tori retorted, gripping Jade's chin in her hand, "literally." She winked and then she leaned in, breathing chi into Jade's body, her eyes glowing gold as she watched the cuts on Jade's cheeks heal until they were their normal pale color. Jade shoved her away as soon as she knew she was healed and started to fix up her makeup while Tori watched.
"You know, I get it, wanting to be normal, but it's just not safe." Tori tried to sympathize, staring at the floor while she leaned against the wall.
"No, not yet." Jade agreed silently, Tori wasn't looking and missed the faint neon red color flickering through Jade's iris' as she applied her eyeliner, "thanks for the save, Vega."
"I'll always be here to save you Jade. No matter how you feel, I love you to much to lose you." This time Tori watched as a number of emotions played through Jade's eyes before they turned stony and she did not say another word. They walked out together, Jade with her head held high and her face perfectly healed and Tori smirking smugly in Ryder's direction. He had a bandage over his forehead and an angry scowl on his face at the sight of the unharmed human.
"What were you doing here anyways?" Andre asked Jade, swinging an arm across her shoulders as they walked into Sikowitz's class.
"Having a life without you freaks." Jade snarked, dropping into her seat Tori dropping into a chair right beside her without hesitation. Beck laughed and dropped into a chair behind her, Robbie sat next to her, with Andre beside him and Cat in front of Jade so they pair of humans was trapped in their circle.
Though Sikowitz was claimed by Beck being a teacher gave him a protection the other humans did not get, so when he walked into the room with a purple cheek the rage that moved through the group was felt by everyone. Sikowitz started the lesson as normal without missing a beat, but after class he announced that he was ill and Beck left with him.
The others stayed the rest of the day, trying to focus on class and not the dark Fae. Afterwards they went to the compound to do some homework and after then went to Cat's house, which is where everyone was staying. Andre and his Gran had half of the third floor, Trina and Tori the other half, since their parents were at the light Fae compound under constant watch, and Robbie and his family got a little bit of the second floor. Beck was staying at his house with Sikowitz and the rest of his large family.
Jade sat in her room late that night after everyone had gone to bed except for Rex who was sitting in a chair, "now make sure you have each candle in the correct spot, which way is north?"
"Out the window." Jade hissed, setting the black candle in it's place, she turned to her right and set down the yellow candle, followed by the red, and then the blue, she set the violet candle in the center.
"Now, do you remember the incantation?"
"Yes." Jade growled again, she was glad Rex was helping her but he was so annoying. She lit her match and exhaled slowly, standing facing the east, "Hail Guardians of the East, I summon the powers of Air, Windswept meadow, breath of life, with clarity, the power to know, I invoke you!" Jade's body felt lighter almost, as she lit the candle, everything seemed more fresh, "by the air that is Her breath, be with us now!"
She turned to the south and kneeled before the second candle, "Hail Guardians of the South, I summon the powers of Fire! Blazing flame, crackling fire, the quickened pulse of heart's desire, with energy, the power of Will, I invoke you!" the room was warmer, visibly, as she lit the candle and Jade's heart rate picked up, "By the fire that is Her spirit, be with us now!"
She turned to the west, kneeling before the next candle, "Hail Guardians of the West, I summon the powers of Water! Rushing stream, with intuition, feelings the power to Dare, I invoke you!" Jade lit the candle and closed her eyes briefly, "by the Waters of Her womb, be with us now!"
Slowly she moved to the candle at the north, kneeling before it, "Hail Guardians of the north, I summon the powers of Earth! Cave of darkness, standing stone, the celebration of flesh and bone, with stillness, the power of silence, I invoke you!" she lit the candle and remained motionless for a moment, "by the Earth that is Her Body, Be with us now!"
And then she moved to the center and sat in front of the final candle, "as above, so below, as within, so without. Four stars in this place be, combined to call the fifth to me! circumference and center, woven together, to make the circle complete!" she lit the final candle, and for the first few seconds nothing happened, and then the flames of the candles flickered and shot up and Jade felt her body tingle, her skin began to glow faintly white and her eyes turned an eerie shade of red.
Rex listened carefully as she continued on in Latin, memorized from her mother's spell book. As she cast the spell she could feel the power vibrating through her body, her heart was beating a mile a minute and she felt like she was on fire, floating in the middle of nowhere, and once she finished the incantation she felt herself come back down and she slowly opened her eyes, a happy smile on her face.
She slowly got to her feet, "thank you, Spirit, you may depart." She blew out the purple candle, and moving in the opposite direction she had done the first she thanked the elements and blue out the candles, once she blew out the air candle she remained where she was, her eyes closing, "go if you must, stay if you will, but always be with me in mind and heart."
The room still felt a tad bit more even after she'd slowly cleaned up the circle, she could feel a new energy pulsing through her and she finally felt something she'd never felt, whole.
When she finished she put the things back into the trunk while Rex asked her how she felt, "It was good. I felt peaceful, like I'd finally come home." She pauses with a smile, "if you breathe a word of that to anyone I'll skin you."
"What skin?" Rex shot back, Jade frowned and turned to but the book in the trunk when she found a small a black pouch she'd never noticed before. She picked it up, opening the draw string and dumping the contents into her hand. It was a necklace, a pentagram in a circle with a small stone above it holding it in place on the string, "that was probably your mother's, it's a protective pendant. You should wear it."
Jade stared at the necklace for a few minutes before she slipped it over her head, Jade had a vivid memory of the necklace swinging around her mothers neck as she bent to pick her up as a baby, she'd grabbed it and tried to bite it and her mother had laughed and told her soon she'd have one of her own, "It was my mothers." She mumbled, and then tucked it into her shirt, "come on puppet man, up to bed."
She silently crept into Robbie's room and tucked Rex into his own bed in the drawer before slipping out of the room, she glanced toward the stairs to the third floor and to the ones that led back to her room on the first floor and all too soon she found herself slipping up the stairs to Tori's room.
The Latina was awake, sitting in the center of her floor meditating. Jade waited silently for her to finish up and blow out her candle, when Tori finally did Jade grabbed her arm and dragged her down the flights of stairs silently.
"What the hell?" Tori asked, stumbling after the darker haired girl.
"Don't question it." Jade mumbled, pushing Tori against the wall, her lips crashing against the other girls. Tori grabbed Jade's shoulders and pushed her back, "Tori, just let it happen." Jade pleaded.
"You refused to let me even speak about the first time and now you want a second round?" Tori asked, lifting an eyebrow.
"Yes." Jade just stared at Tori, as if it really mattered why she wanted to do it. Tori decided that was a good enough answer and pulled Jade toward her, lifting the taller girl from the ground. Jade wrapped her legs around Tori's waist as she kissed her with fervor, her fingers tangling in Tori's brown hair as the other girl stumbled toward Jade's bedroom, kicking the door open and closed, moving swiftly to Jade's bed, clothes ripping and tearing in their haste.
The room seemed a hundred degrees hotter but Jade didn't care as her fingers explored Tori's tanned skin and Tori's mouth kissed its way across her flesh, sucking and nibbling on the most sensitive parts of her body, lighting her skin ablaze as a passionate hunger over came her.
Sometime later Tori stretched out in Jade's bed, the sheets twisted tightly around various parts of her body. It was getting slowly cooler in Jade's room now that the darker haired girl had fallen asleep, much to Tori's relief. Between the heat and the drain from holding back from feeding on Jade she felt worse than she'd felt in years.
Jade however, was sleeping with a glow on her peaceful face Tori hadn't seen since she'd known the girl, and she wasn't entirely sure why, but she was glad Jade was finally happy about something, though she doubted it had anything to do with her. She knew what had happened between them was a celebration, of what she hadn't a clue.
After a few minutes she slipped out of the bed, covered Jade's body with the sheet and kissed her forehead before she found one of Jade's shirts and a pair of shorts, she slipped them on and tip toed out of the room and back up the stairs to her own bedroom. Her room still felt slightly strange, like there was some sort of magic floating in it, but the room below it on the second floor was empty and the room on the first floor belonged to Jade, so she knew it couldn't have come from either of those.
She crawled across her bed and wrapped around one of her pillows, closing her eyes and waiting for exhaustion to lull her into a peaceful sleep, unfortunately her sleep was anything but peaceful, and when she woke later that morning she felt like she'd been hit by a semi-truck. She didn't bother to change out of the borrowed clothes before she stumbled down the stairs into the living room where Andre and Robbie were cooking in the kitchen, coffee waiting on the counter.
She picked up a cup and started to sip it, "so did anyone else notice the strange feeling last night?" Andre asked.
"What strange feeling?" Jade asked, Tori nearly jumped out of her skin at the sound of Jade so close to her, she reached around the tanner girl and grabbed a cup of coffee.
"I dunno, just like something else." Andre shrugged, "maybe I imagined it."
"Maybe." Jade shrugged, sitting down on the couch, "morning Charlotte."
Tori turned toward the couches and noticed Charlotte for the first time, sitting and sipping tea in one of the high back chairs, she was staring at Jade intently, and Jade was staring right back until Charlotte finally smiled and wished her a good morning.
Tori sat down on the other end of the couch and drank her coffee while Jade flipped on the news, soon Trina and Cat came bounding down the stairs talking about the strange feeling last night similar to what Andre had experienced, "well I was meditating, so maybe that was it." Tori offered up, setting her coffee cup in the sink.
"You meditate every night." Trina replied, "so do I, this was different."
"I don't know then." Tori sighed, returning to her seat next Jade. The conversation eventually drifted off of that topic and onto sparing practice, Jade said she was feeling well to get out of it left to go to her room. Tori practiced with Trina, who nearly kicked her ass, and Cat, who actually kicked her ass, and then mumbled an excuse of not feeding recently before she wandered off to Jade's room.
The darker haired girl was curled up on her bed, she glanced up when Tori came in and then looked back at her book. Tori shut the door and crossed the room to Jade's bed, sitting up against the headboard beside Jade, "so, anything you wanna tell me about last night?"
"You should have fed while you could?"
"Anything else?"
"You left red nail lines on my back."
"Sorry, anything else?"
"Nope." Tori sighed, groaning as she stretched out, "For fucks sake, you need to feed." Jade closed her book and set it aside.
"I can't feed off of you."
"You held back when we were having sex, which drained you even more, come on." Jade prodded, leaning in closer to Tori, "just get it over with."
Tori scowled at Jade and pulled away, but the darker haired girl grabbed her arm gently and tugged her forward, her hand cupping Tori's cheek gingerly, before she leaned in and softly pressed her lips against Tori's.
Tori ignore the urge to feed, but kissed Jade back eagerly, her hands winding around Jade's back and dragging the other girl into her lap, and when she couldn't fight the urge she flipped Jade over and pinned her against the bed, pulling away slightly as she drew Jade's chi into her body.
But then something strange happened, while Tori's eyes were glowing blue Jade's started emitting a strange red glow and Tori couldn't resist feeding until she felt in tip-top shape. When Tori pulled away Jade seemed unaffected by the entire feeding, if not more energized than before, "what the fuck?"
Jade simply smiled, pleased, "some of the old things that survived the fire at my house in that trunk were spell books. My mom was a witch." Jade explained, pointing toward the trunk in question, the lid lifted and a book floated from the trunk over to the table, she turned to Tori grinning from ear to ear, "and so am I."
Tori stared down at the girl pinned beneath her at a complete loss of words.
