Today was a free day, but of course it will never be one again, because like all other days I still have to deal with all of Nyx's shenanigans. Like every other day. A day in the life of me. You either go to school and get treated like a no good pimp because of all the girls that like you, and liked you before, or you deal with a tsundere and nonchalant goddess that knows nothing about death and is about as naïve as a five year old. Thanatos save your soul if you are unlucky enough to be me.
"Minato, are we doing anything today?" Nyx asked with a bored tone. As usual.
"I don't have anything planned for today. Do you have anything in mind this time?" I asked. Why do I feel like I'm going to regret asking that very question?
"In fact I do. I wanted to see what the back of Port Island is like. Junpei has seemingly told me more vivid stories about the situation over there, and I would like to see for myself whether I should put any stock into his wild expositions about his exploits," she replied simply.
Wait. Simply? How the hell did Junpei even get onto that subject!? Now I have to deal with a tsundere, nonchalant goddess that knows nothing about death and is about as naïve as a five year old, and listens to Junpei!? Junpei, of all people!? No, no, not even Thanatos can help me!
Yehovah, save my soul before I damned the world for a second time!
"Minato, why is your face paling right now?" Nyx asked with a blank expression.
"You listened… to JUNPEI of all people…?" I said quietly, a horrified note lacing my tone.
Nyx looked at me blankly before her eyes widened, and the chopsticks in her grip completely and utterly snapped into an irreparable pile of splinters. She seemed to have realized what she did wrong, and what she should never do.
Listen to Junpei.
"…I'm going to tear his cap apart into an irretrievable dump of hat," Nyx articulated her words like every word brought the bile of spite into her tone; icy, cold, and certainly… most certainly… irrevocably pissed.
I pray for his salvation.
Because I'm not going to get in the way of a bloodthirsty goddess.
"Just don't kill him when you do," I sighed. I wonder whether she will listen. Now that's a mystery.
"Oh no, he will certainly still be alive after this. I just cannot promise that his pride will be there when you next see him," she deadpanned. Glaaaaare. Oh well.
"Um okay. Give him my regards," I said nonchalantly, not even looking up from my breakfast.
"If you so wish," Nyx gave me her words in a tone of formality before I heard the main doors to the dorm shut.
Well, there's my trouble for the day gone. Cool.
I wonder where she went though. I hope she doesn't get into any trouble. Trouble with the police. Or gangs. Or shady salespeople. Or rapists. Or something like that.
…damn.
…I should definitely go after her later. After thinking about it, probably not a good idea that she went on her own when I haven't taught her everything about being street-smart.
"Minato-kun, where are you going?" Fuuka asked with a sleepy voice as I put my hat on. Must've just woken up a few minutes ago.
"Oh. I'm gonna go find Nyx. I have a bit of a feeling about today that something might happen," I sighed. No idea if it's a good thing, but I'm not going to take any chances.
"I see… come back safely later," Fuuka smiled slightly before going to the kitchen.
Good thing I don't have to worry about Fuuka's cooking anymore.
A little later, I found that I had caught up to Nyx in… the place that she said that she wasn't going to go to before, while she was with Junpei.
…something's wrong with my luck. Very wrong.
Back of Port Island. Beautiful girl with attitude. Capped teen without a katana. Me, and a whole lot of thugs. I hope this goes okay.
Just as Nyx was about to drag Junpei out of the situation, one of the guys (Thug One) charged after her, but just as I was about to beat them all into submission…
Nyx glared at Thug One before she punched him hard in the gut, making him double over. Aaaaaand… collapse. Powerful Nyx is powerful.
"Do not touch me you little wretch. I am not in a good mood, and the next to come after me and this little fool is not only going to get their insides ripped to pieces with a hard punch," Nyx sent icy glares everywhere in the area, making most of them freeze momentarily.
She turned heel once more before another one came after her again. Nyx is too pretty for her own good. Oh man.
Nyx was starting to glow a dark red… Oh shit, is she actually going to try and attack with a SPELL?
I punched the incoming guy with a haymaker that knocked him out completely, leaving him out cold. "Nyx, don't do whatever you're trying to right now before you get found out and people get attracted to you than you already are," I sighed as I kicked the thug I knocked out of the way.
"Minato, what are you doing here?" she asked.
"I was worried about what trouble you might've gotten into," I said nonchalantly as I stared down the throng in front.
"Oh," she said just as simply as I did before she nodded.
"You guys still wanna come or you want a sword up your throat?" I growled, making them back away.
Most of the guys ran away before there was only one left. "So you wanna die?" I smiled a little, before he began to run at me.
I got ready to knock him out like the others, but I didn't get to. At all.
Because he was knocked out by another guy.
A large resounding 'bang' echoed throughout the area, loud and clear, just like a bullet. Whoa… whatever punch he used, it sounded like Akihiko's and maybe it was just as powerful. Or maybe even more. Just… wow.
"Are you guys okay?" the voice asked.
Looking him up and down, he seemed to be… holy hell he's tall. I mentally shook that thought from my mind. Anyways, he was lightly built at least, similar to Akihiko's build. He seemed to be lightly tanned, and he had a cap on, similar to Junpei. I doubt that was because he had hat hair but I digress.
"I'm okay, I think she's okay, I think Junpei might've pissed himself, but I think so," I shrugged.
"Oh. Well that's good. See ya then," he waved before starting to run past us.
"Hey wait! What's your name?" I asked.
"Ah, right. That would be kinda rude and all," he chuckled. "I'm Tsukigata Yashiro."
"I'm Arisato Minato. Thanks for helping though," I nodded slightly.
"Sure. I guess I'll see ya later," he smirked before tipping his cap and running off again.
"That was an interesting experience," Nyx said plainly before she turned her gaze to Junpei. "However, I'll deal with you later…" she snarled menacingly and pointed to Junpei before storming off again. Presumably back to the dorm.
"T-That was scary…" Junpei stuttered.
"What was scarier? Nyx or the thugs?" I asked.
"Nyx."
…thought so.
It was back to school to me, and I was looking over the team choices again this year. Granted, I wasn't going to join one, since I had a lot more stuff on my plate, but… I was curious. I still followed the exploits of the boxing team and stuff like that, so yeah.
"Hey, you hear about Yashiro again?"
Huh?
I turned around the corner, and while this may have been creepy and kinda stalker-like, I listened in on what they were saying.
"Yeah, apparently he won the finals at the tournament last year, no sweat!"
Yashiro's a boxer? That might've explained something about the sound I heard…
"Since Akihiko-senpai's gone, I heard that maybe he's gonna be captain this year."
Another thing. He's in my year.
"I could totally see that. He's really good. Still remember that counter he threw at me. Left me out cold for a few minutes."
…it's like a mini Akihiko. I wonder what his personality's like…
"Are you listening in on them?"
…Huh?
I turned around and… holy crap, Yashiro. What's with my luck these past days!? This kinda thing only happens in books and movies!
"Yeah… do you mind?" I smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of my head.
"No, not really. They were kinda inviting that kind of eavesdropping, talking in the open," he shrugged. "But then again, I still have to wonder how I became the topic of conversation. I'm not all that interesting…" Yashiro sighed.
"Still, I guess it's not all bad. Anyways, are you going to be replacing Akihiko this year?" I asked.
"Akihiko-senpai? Yeah, I will be," Yashiro replied simply. "What about it?"
"Oh just wondering. They were saying," I shrugged.
"I see," he nodded slightly, grasping his cap.
"Say, have you fought against Akihiko before?" I asked with a curious tone.
"Sure," he said nonchalantly. Damn. Does his expression just… never change at all? I swear he's had that poker face the whole time that we've been talking. "He was a difficult opponent to go up against," Yashiro sighed.
"Who won?"
Huh? Geez, surprise me a fourth time in this week, why don't you?
"Who won?" Yashiro said almost incredulously. I say almost, because it just sounded like he was, but his face certainly didn't show it.
"Yeah, who won?" Kanashi asked.
"…I can't tell you that. You know that's a secret between bros, right?" Yashiro deadpanned at Kanashi. The first twitch of expression he shows is a deadpan. I have no idea whether to feel impressed or not.
"Oh. Right…" Kanashi said, drawing out the syllables.
A sharp cutting sound passed my ears, and I swear that was about as fast as the punch that knocked out that guy yesterday. I looked around for the source of the sound, finding a card stuck in the pillar behind Kanashi. Kanashi… he looked surprised and barely under control to say the least.
I took the card from the pillar, finding a clean cut in it and a symbol on the card.
"Strength Arcana…" I muttered as I flipped the card up and down.
"Why the hell did you throw that!?" Kanashi glared at Yashiro. "You know that kinda stuff's dangerous!"
"I know. But it doesn't really matter, since it didn't hit nor did it intend to hit anyone," Yashiro replied.
Another 'whoosh' sound, and before long, there were two more cards in the wall, this time forming a cross-like formation before they separated into quarters. G-geez… he must be like a ninja with these kinds of things if he's able to throw CARDS like they were shuriken…
I bent down to collect the pieces and… Fool and Fortune.
What. The. Heck.
MY LUCK!
AN: …I haven't updated in a week. I feel awful. Anyways, the reason is Nanowrimo, and I feel proud because I wrote like… 12500 words in a week. Hehe.
Also, how ironic is it that the THIRTEENTH chapter was the one about LUCK? XD
Anyways, tell me what you think of the chapter in your reviews, I'd appreciate it! Sayoonara for now!
Raidou: Yup, favourite character to write as actually, cutting out Minato. The interaction is important is these kinds of stories, so I try to make them as interesting as possible. Heh, thanks!
Nights: Quite. Who knows what'll happen in the future, ne? He might… Hehe. Thanks!
RomanceDagger: Thanks!
Yoshikunitsu: Trust me, it hurts not being able to write any real MiNyx moments, but when they come, expect them to be unexpected, reactions plentiful and full of sweetness. Because I loooove handling MiNyx moments. Ah well, that double update was still short-lived. Unfortunate and regrettable. Haha, thanks!
