"Minato," Nyx looked at me sternly.
"What is it Nyx?" I asked with a tired tone.
"Do you know what the colour of a deity's blood is?" Nyx asked me seriously. It seemed that she really wasn't joking about the question that she was giving me. But I seriously wonder what this has got to do with… anything really.
"No, I don't," I shrugged. "Do you know?"
"…yes, I do. I am one," she sighed. Ah, right.
"Care to tell me what colour it is?" I asked, putting down my mug of tea down. It was cold this morning, even though it was approaching summer. Which I found kinda strange, but… weather is a real bitch sometimes.
"The colour of godly ichor is a shining gold," she answered, looking back at me with a stern gaze.
…it's gold? Why? "And you know what the colour of a Shadow's blood is, do you not?"
"Yeah, it's black," I answered, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Which was true for me. I had fought enough Shadows to know that Shadow ichor was a shade of dark grey, close to black.
"So, I've been wondering something. Why is it that human blood is red, even though they are beings trapped between the plain of godhood and the darkness of Shadows?" Nyx asked.
Uh… "Are you telling me to answer this scientifically or is there some deeper meaning behind this? Because I know that our blood is red because the blood cells that flow in blood are red, and stuff…"
"No, I mean… gods originally created humans. And Shadows are projections of the darker selves of a human," Nyx explained with an exasperated tone. "Did you know that human blood is darker because it is mixed with Shadow ichor, and that it still shines brightly because godly ichor is mixed as well?"
…huh WHAT!? Keep your composure Arisato. "No, I didn't," I replied. "But seriously, where are you going with this?"
"Oh no, I just wanted to tell you about an interesting piece of information," Nyx waved it off, all nonchalant-like. "But there is one thing I haven't quite figured out."
"What's that?" I took another sip of my tea.
"What is the reason for blushing?" she asked with what seemed to be… an anxious expression. Since when was Nyx ever nervous of all things? She was never nervous!
"Well, blushing occurs because the blood in your body rushes to your cheeks. The colour of blood makes our cheeks appear red," I answered simply. I really don't know where I picked up that bit of kinda pointless information. "And well, blushing usually occurs when you're embarrassed or by some kinda reaction from… uh…"
"…enough information, I think I figured it out," Nyx looked down at the ground with a growl. "I have things to think about. Excuse me."
And with that, she walked off. "Weren't you going to ask me about mid-terms?" I asked as she took the first steps up the staircase.
"…I will ask you about it later. Now please excuse me, if that's alright with you," she sighed.
"Um, alright then," I replied, almost unsurely.
"Thank you," she said with a tone of finality before she stormed up the stairs.
That was weird. And… did she just thank me? She never thanks me for like… anything! Weird things are happening today, I swear… I heard a smack and a tumble and when I looked up…
"Hey Junpei. What's up?" I asked.
"Uh… Nyx seemed really irritated about something… she kinda smacked me when I was cracking a joke…" he groaned.
"Oh. Well, she did seem awfully uptight this morning. I think she's just in a bad mood," I sighed, sipping my mug.
"Well… I have to tell you something… her cheeks were like… uh…" Junpei stumbled over his words, finally getting himself stable once he grabbed a good hold of the sofa. "Are girl's cheeks supposed to be all sparkly when they don't even have any make-up on?"
Eh? Sparkly cheeks? "Uh dude, what do you mean? No-one has cheeks like that!"
"I'm serious dude! Her cheeks were all like… golden and sparkly like someone smeared gold glitter glue all over her face," Junpei insisted.
Gold? Sparkly? Godly ichor? Blushing? Oh. Ohhhhh.
…
She was BLUSHING!?
"Junpei. This is a serious phenomenon," I said seriously, finishing the last of my cup.
"Huh?" Why?" he asked with an incredulous tone.
"You have just encountered a blushing Nyx," I answered seriously. I looked up to his gaze, trying to see whether he was with me or not. He looked at me blankly before he realized what I was saying.
And he burst into a fit of laughter. What did I do to deserve this again? "Dude! Nyx, blushing!? You can't be serious, she never shows any emotions except for anger, you know that!"
"I'm being serious here!" I shouted with my eye twitching as I stood up and glared at Junpei.
"What are you guys talking about?" Ken asked, rubbing his eyes. He seemed to be in half-asleep mode, but he was fully dressed for going out somewhere.
"We were talking about Nyx," I answered succinctly.
"Oh. What about her?" Ken asked with an innocent tone.
"Well, you know how Nyx never shows any emotion, like… ever?" Junpei chuckled. He still seemed to be recovering from that fit he had earlier. Wonderful.
"Yeah, what about her? She's nice to me at least," Ken yawned. That must because he's a kid, or because of his Persona. Nemesis was another daughter of Nyx, so… yeah.
"Well, from what Junpei has been describing to me, I have reason to believe that he has just encountered a blushing Nyx," I said seriously.
"Oh really? Since when does Nyx-san show any emotions except for anger though?" Ken asked.
…same answer Junpei gave me. Great. I'm totally getting somewhere. "…anyways, the thing is, Junpei actually saw her blushing. And I can say now because Nyx was actually discussing with me beforehand about the difference between Godly blood, human blood and Shadow blood."
"Why?" Ken asked simply.
…uh. "I actually have no idea why. I need to ask her that sometime, but preferably now at a time where she isn't going to chew me out for anything."
"Yeah… well, I think this warrants some more investigation later," Ken sighed, going over to the kitchen.
…right, Ken hasn't had breakfast yet. I have no idea anymore whether tea is an adequate substitute for breakfast. It's not. I know. But… And my stomach calls for more nourishment. Apparently it needs more than just tea for my body to function.
A few hours later, at a time when I had finally been able to get some breakfast for my greedy stomach I finally dared to venture into the lion's den and try to find out why Nyx had asked me her earlier questions. I knocked on her doors thrice with an even tone all throughout each of my knocks. At least, I thought they were.
Nyx opened up the door herself, looking at me with a tired (as always) and questioning expression. "What are you doing here Minato?" she asked with an exasperated tone.
"I just wanted to talk to you about why you asked your earlier questions," I answered, almost expecting an outright refusal at this point. Because that was just how she was.
She stayed quiet for a few moments, scrutinizing my expression, seemingly, and… "Alright then," she drawled before she stepped out and closed the door behind me.
"Um… why did you step out instead of leading me back in?" I asked.
"Nothing. It is simply out of a sense of privacy," she answered succinctly.
…I'm seriously wondering, what the hell has happened to the old Nyx and who is in front of me? "Um… okay," I replied unsurely.
"Anyways, the only reason I asked about it was because… I had been wondering about it," Nyx sighed. "Merely out of a sense of curiosity. Because asking someone on the internet about these kinds of topic would probably earn me a huge 'what the heck is she going on about' from Kanashi."
"Wait, you're talking to Kanashi?" I asked, blinking in surprise.
"Yes. Is there something wrong with that?" she asked.
Holy. A goddess of death and night learning how to use the internet. That's almost a scary thought. I wonder how far she's gotten with that now. "No, of course not. It's just that on the internet you have to take some care with the things that you look for on it. It's a dangerous place with many opportunities for things such as bullying and maybe even viruses to enter your computer."
"Ah, I see. Kanashi has told me as much. I have to admit, out of your friends that I have met, Kanashi seems to be the most mindful of them all, besides you," Nyx looked up with blank look, as always.
Oh man. She would always look pretty with those eyes of hers, but they're almost always only lighting up when she's asking something, deadpanning (in which case I would advise that you run) or… she has no idea what she's doing. "Uh… thank you?" I said unsurely.
"Quite. Now… I will go back to my ventures on the wide whimsical world of the internet, even though Kanashi's lack of grammar at times does irk me a little bit," Nyx nodded and closed her eyes, almost as if she was conceding defeat to that fact.
"Sure. Just… just be careful," I sighed, rubbing the back of my head.
"Of course. I'm not that stupid," Nyx snapped.
Ah, the obligatory snark from Nyx. Wonderful. So she isn't all gone with that cold personality anymore. I mean, if it was gone completely in a flash… I would have something to question, indeed… "I know. You're smart," I replied, turning heel and walking downstairs.
"Oh right. But… what made you ask about blushing from me?" I asked.
Nyx looked up at me with a glare before saying, "That… is none of your business. Well now, I thought you were going to leave?"
Whoa. Shut down. Damn, that question's going to haunt me for the rest of the day. "Right, I will… I will," I waved before going back downstairs to the boy's section. Wait.
I looked back, and… Nyx hurried back into her room.
Why?
Another mystery that will probably get me kicked out of her room from that way that she reacted. I sighed inwardly. Another question I'm going to have to deal with. Yay.
"What are you saying, people have been making memes about me!?"
…I'll ignore that outburst from Nyx and just go.
AN: Well, I finished this chapter all quick-sticks like! I love it when this happens! Now back to Nanowrimo, 3000 words until I'm on time for my limit. Anyways. The reference last chapter was a reference to a song from a band I like called 'Sum 41.' The song I referenced was 'Confusion and Frustration in Modern Times'.
So, please review, I'd like to know your thoughts! The theory I had about the differences between Ichor and human blood is purely conjecture. I doubt it's real myself. Haha…
Imma see you guys later.
Nights: Yeah, of course! I wasn't aiming for that dynamic, but it worked out that way. And their next match… I have no idea. There will at least be another fight before their very last faceoff in his story, so yeah. It'll be there for sure.
Yeah, I liked the chat. I didn't intend for it to happen (but then again, a lot of the stuff here is on the fly) but it was good for some CD. It worked, ne?
And yeah, rocky indeed… I wanna get to the good parts as much as the next person, and that's why this chapter is like this.
Thanks Nights!
Yoshikunitsu: Haha, well, I can never forget Kenji since I saw the male route first.
Ah well… think back to the first chapter. Nyx is GOOD at getting people riled up, even if she doesn't do it as much now that she's out of the seal.
Haha, well considering how she is in this chapter, I think we can say that she didn't. Same old Nyx.
Raidou: Yeah, I don't know that much about boxing (the little I know is limited to Hajime No Ippo only, as always…) so I hoped that it would be okay.
Yeah… I think the party scene is going to suck, because I've never been to a party of this story's nature. Good luck to me.
Of course. Minato and of course, Nyx's feelings have to be taken slow and steady.
Hope you like this one then!
RomanceDagger: In due time, in due time… I want to get to the good parts, so I wrote semi-fluff between the two of them this chapter. I doubt it suffices for the moment, but… you know. Character development and stuff.
Eivext: Haha, glad you think so. Most of this is on the fly.
Yeah, it's something that I always try to hit. Nyx is a MUCH different character compared to the rest of the OCs and the cast in general.
Yay. Hope you stick around for it!
