Lessons had commenced for a few weeks since the beginning of April. Suddenly, everything seemed like a normal routine; homework, basketball games and meeting up with friends. The sakura flowers were no longer to be seen as the blossoming season is over and headed up towards north of Japan.
It has been busy with the basketball club too. Yosen High, known for having a team of titans (Murasakibara included), practised almost every day. Whenever I had the time, I would go watch their practise or any friendly games with other high school teams. Murasakibara and I didn't spend a lot of time together outside of school so seeing each other in school made up our time spent.
Like any other day, Murasakibara would come to class and fell asleep. The look on his face is hard to determine. It's either he was tired from practise or simply not interested in classes. I would usually wake him up when the teacher came, and as soon as he woke up, it wouldn't take more than 10 seconds for him to decide whether to stay awake or to sleep. Sometimes bribing Mura-kun with candies or M&Ms seemed effective for him to stay focus.
"I have a very important announcement to make." The homeroom teacher spoke and all of us became quiet. "As you all are well-aware, some of you will take the entrance exams and enter university, some may consider studying in colleges or other places and some wants to start entering the work force. Whatever your options are, please note that a parent-teacher meeting will be held to discuss your future."
The teacher began to elaborate on what is to be expected at this meeting. I started to worry about it. I looked down on my table, starting to have some thoughts. The future is scary, I told myself. Just then, a piece of paper was given to me by Atsushi and I opened. It read "R U OK?". I nodded.
During lunch, Mura-kun insisted of having lunch together, despite telling him that I want to have lunch on my own. We headed to the rooftop where there were many students enjoying their lunches. We found a spot further away from the other students and started to have lunch. I think Atsushi knew something isn't roght. He took my hands and started to ask.
"You don't look OK when I asked."
I looked across the horizon, barely eating my bento that mom made. My hands were held tightly and my thoughts seemed to be swimming on their own.
"After high school. what will you do, Atsushi?" I asked without looking at him.
"Professional basketball player." I immediately turned to look at his face.
"Really?"
"Yeah..." I giggled at his reply. "Atsushi, are you serious?"
Murasakibara smiled at me. "You finally showed some emotions."
I wanted to hide my embarrassment but instead, I punched his shoulders lightly. "That's... that's not fair!"
"What is not fair?" Murasakibara smirked.
"You... baka!" I rested against his shoulders, hiding my face. Atsushi patted my head. I whispered 'thank you' to him and looked onto his face.
"It's just that, I think my father wants me to study in America & not here. And I'm not sure if I really want to do so..." I stopped for a while before continuing, "And I worry about us too... I..." My tears came out naturally.
Murasakibara wiped my tears off and gave me a hug. It was comforting. "We've come this far and there is no end-point for us, right?" Atsushi looked at me with his soft purple eyes. His eyes were reassuring. "If your father wants you to go, then it's better that you go."
"And to leave you, Atsushi? I want to be with you!"
"And you've always been." Murasakibara kissed me onto my lips, muttered, "I don't want you to leave too but if you have to go, we'll figure out some ways to see each other, okay?" I can see his eyes, having the sincere intention of staying together.
"Thank you, Atsushi. I feel better now." Atsushi took out a packet of M&Ms and gave it to me. I placed it into my bag. Both of us went back to class.
"Oh, you still hadn't tell me what you wanted to do after high school."
"I want to open a pastry shop and start making desserts and sweets."
I was astonished by his dreams. I guess it suits Mura-kun to do so, for he has a sweet tooth.
