Chapter 30: Back at One
A taxi dropped us at my place. Murasakibara was with me throughout the ride. His hand did not let go of mine. We were quiet and enjoying each other's presence.
I unlocked the front door and welcomed Atsushi in. The lights were still switched on in the living room. My dad was nowhere to be seen. My mom however was more than delighted to see me and gave me a hug.
"Oh darling, you're back." My mom lets go of me and spoke to Atsushi. "Thank you for bringing back my daughter safely, Murasakibara-kun."
"My pleasure, madam." Atsushi said as he bowed slightly. I was wondering where my dad would be, although it shouldn't be too hard for me to guess.
"Mom, where's dad?"
"His office since you left. I couldn't make him come downstairs when I saw you two arrive."
"Okay, we'll go see him upstairs."
I went up to my father's office. I rarely enter because I wasn't allowed to. The door is always closed and locked whenever I tried to sneak in when I was a child. This time, the door was slightly open and my dad was sitting, facing the laptop. I knocked lightly and peeked my head through. My father saw me and asked me to enter. I opened the door and Murasakibara followed me. My father was surprised to see my fiancé here.
"Good evening sir."
"Good evening, Murasakibara-kun."
Mura-kun signaled me to speak to my dad, although I was slightly reluctant but I knew it had to be done.
"Dad, I want to... to apologize."
"For?"
"For being rude to you."
My dad immediately hugged me without saying anything. I was caught by surprised but I take it as a sign of him forgiving me. He released me and turned away.
"It's OK dear. I trust Murasakibara-kun will take care of you even if you are in the States."
Murasakibara agreed with my father. "Yes sir."
"I'll do this little favor for you, Murasakibara-kun. Whenever you want to visit my daughter, I shall sponsor your trip. Any time of the year."
Murasakibara and I were not ready for his surprise. For a second, we were speechless. How is this 'little'?
"Daddy, f…for real?"
"He is my son-in-law now, and you are my only daughter. I will be at shame if your relationship doesn't end well."
Of course, my father's pride is on the line. When news broke out that his only daughter was already engaged, he refused to comment any further, citing that he only wants the best his daughter wants. There were rumors that I will be engaged to some billionaire's heir but all was shut down when my father released a press statement.
"Thank you very much, sir. I promise I will take care of our relationship." Murasakibara and I looked each other and smiled happily for the first time tonight.
