"You lack potential, Nimblepaw. You've tried and tried again. You can't even kill anything."
Nimblepaw had always been the weak one -She was fast, none of the other apprentices could catch her- But they said she lacked potential to become something great.
The clan loved her, for they shielded her. Whenever she tried to kill anything, something inside of her told the she-cat to stop. She was useless.
Nimblepaw was laying in the grass outside. It felt really nice, and the sky was a tranquil blue accompanied by an ever so light breeze.
Her friend had left to hunt after a particularly juicy rat had been spotted. He was a warrior, named Dropfall. Her mentor was nowhere to be found.
She heard a noise. Thinking it was Dropfall, she followed her ears. What she saw was a plump, furry creature. It's fur was gray, and standing up slightly. It stood on all four paws, it's pink nose twitching.
Nimblepaw quickly realized what it was. She took off towards the mouse, who began to run away in fear.
She was gaining on the little creature. She could do it! When the she-cat had caught up, she prepared to lunge... and the voice stopped her again. The mouse ran away and escaped.
She knew she wouldn't be able to do it. She was useless, after all. She walked home, her head down. When she got there, she noticed Dropfall was waiting for her. "Where were you?" The Tom asked her.
"Nowhere..." She replied quietly. Dropfall wouldn't take that as an answer, "I know something happened, what was it?"
"Fine. I saw the rat, and tried to catch it, alright? I failed. I always fail. Happy?"
"Nimblepaw. Listen to me. Put some effort into it. You can do it. If I can become a warrior, then you can surely kill a mouse." Dropfall encouraged her.
"That's the thing...I can't..."
"There is not one cat in Woodclan that can't catch a mouse. I know for a fact that you can. Because I believe in you." She took the words lightly. Nimblepaw walked off with a sigh, not listening to his cries of where she was going.
The she-cat lied down on a big rock that caught a lot of Sun-Another resting spot- When she heard the rustling sound. Her ears perked up. It was the rat again. On instinct, she leapt at it.
Nimblepaw began chasing it again. The voice rang in her ears. You can't do it... Don't even try, you worthless bag of filth.
"SHUT UP!" She cried, lunging at the mouse. She put her paws on it's neck and sunk her teeth into it. She had killed it.
Nimblepaw felt a huge weight lift off of her. She had done it-She had killed something. She dropped the now-dead mouse and began cheering. "Yay!"
The she-cat picked the mouse up in her mouth again and began to walk back to Dropfall. She had to show him. He had to see that she did it. Then she would show her mentor, if she could fin him. Then everyone else.
Nimblepaw was brimming with a new feeling-confidence in herself. She walked back to Dropfall and showed hi. "I killed it myself." She announced in a rather prideful voice.
"I knew you could do it." He smiled at her, placing his forepaw on the top of her head.
She couldn't wait to tell her Mentor.
"Why don't we go find Pebblemist?"
