Egotistical Bastard - Tony Stark/Iron Man

I rolled my eyes as Tony tried flirting with me again, smiling to myself as I continued working on the plans to rebuilt Stark Tower after the fight with Loki and his Asgardian army. I admit, I did have a small crush on him; but he would never take me seriously like that.

"Charlie, are you listening to me?" he whined, throwing a balled up piece of paper at my head. I looked over at him with an eyebrow raised before he continued his rant about something. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and slipped it out to see that my mother was calling.

"Hold that though for a minute." I told Tony before answering the call and walking out the room with my phone glued to my ear.

My mother was rambling away quickly and I couldn't understand a word she was trying to say to me.

"Mum, slow down. I can't hear what you're saying." I said, leaning back against the wall to the room Tony was in.

"Your father had a stroke! He's in hospital now, but I don't know what to do." She began crying down the phone and I tried to calm her down.

"Mum, I'm coming over. Just calm down, I don't want you getting ill too. Sit tight for like twenty minutes, I'll be there as soon as I can alright?"

She complied and I shoved my phone back into the pocket it came from. I hurried back into the work room in a slight panic and was vaguely aware of Tony watching me as I rummaged around for my car keys.

"Everything okay?" he asked, coming round from the other side of the table. I groaned in frustration when I couldn't find them and felt a pair of rough hands grab the tops of my arms, pulling me upright. "Charlotte, what's wrong?" He made me look at him as I tried to hold back the tears.

"I have to get to the hospital; my dad's had a stroke!" I covered my mouth with my hand as a sob escaped me. Tony's face softened as he looked down at me.

"I'll drive you; the plans can wait another day." To say that I was surprised by his offer would have described me right at that moment.

However, I let him lead me down to the garage where we both got into his black escalade and drove away from the remains of Stark Tower. I tried to keep my fear and panic suppressed by regulating my breathing as I cracked my knuckles, making Tony glance over at me.

"He'll be okay; your dad's a strong man. He's proved that many times love." I completely ignored the fact that the attractive man beside me had called me love as my mind was elsewhere instead of in the present at the current time.

I groaned and leant my head against the tinted windows as the drive seemed to be taking forever.

As soon as we arrived at the hospital my mother had run over and engulfed me in one of her famous bear hugs that I used to love as a child. I held onto her tightly as she started crying.

"He's inappropriate coma!" My eyes widened and I looked towards the room behind her which my father currently resided in. A doctor poked his head around the door.

"You must be Charlotte, the daughter?" I nodded and his expression softened slightly. "We have few more tests to run on him, why don't all of you go get a drink from the cafeteria? We'll be around half an hour." I nodded and wrapped my arm around my mother's shoulders before looking at Tony who had hung back a little.

"You coming?" I asked him.

"I'll catch up, you go on ahead." he said, motioning me off with his hands. I shrugged slightly and led my mother away as Tony remained where he was. He gave me a small wave as I glanced back at him and couldn't help the smile that curled across my lips.

Tony's POV

I got the doctor's attention before he could dart back into the room and he shut the door behind him as he came out to join me.

"Is there medicine available that can make this man better?" I asked.

"I'm sorry; I can only give that information out if you're a family member."

"Charlotte's my fiancée." I said, making his expression clear.

"Oh well, in that case, there is but the adequate dosage he needs of it will cost $10,000." he replied.

"Give it to him; I'll pay all the costs." I stated, watching as his expression turned into one of shock.

"Uh, well who should I make the order out for?"

"Tony Stark."

"Mr Stark! I'll make sure the order comes as soon as possible."

End Tony's POV

"So, who was that handsome man you arrived with?" my mother asked, making me roll my eyes.

"That was the famous Tony Stark." Her eyes widened and it made me laugh a little.

"You may know me better as Iron Man ma'am." I shook my head with a small smile as Tony came sauntering into the cafeteria with a smirk on his face.

"I think I prefer man of metal, you know Thor really has a way with words; don't you think?" I teased, smiling as I saw him frown.

"No, if you haven't forgotten, he was the one that tried electrocuting me with lightning."

"I remember, don't get your arc reactor in a twist." He plopped down in the seat beside me and held his hand out towards my mother.

"Nice to meet you Mrs Wills." He flashed her a smile and she arched an eyebrow as she shook his hand. "Oh, and you don't have to worry about the medication and hospital bills; they've already been paid for."

My mother's face turned into one of shock which I could imagine mine mirrored.

"You paid them?" I asked, making him look at me. "Why?"

"Stop looking at me like that, it's not like I couldn't afford them."

"You're such an egotistical bastard." I joked, but I was touched by what he'd done.

"Don't pretend that you don't like it." He gave me a smirk as my mother stood from her chair.

"Thank you so much for your hospitality Mr Stark, it's very much appreciated. Please excuse me; I'm going to see how my husband is doing." He gave her a smile before she walked out of the hospital cafeteria, leaving me alone with Tony.

"Why did you do it?" I asked again.

"Honestly?" I nodded and he ran a hand through his dark hair, his eyes finding mine. "I thought it would make you see that I'm not like I was, and to get on your good side."

"Why would you want to get on my good side?" I asked, trying not to get my hopes up.

"I thought that would have been obvious by now." Before he had a chance to say anything else I'd catapulted myself at him and captured his mouth with my own by a burst of unknown courage. He jumped in shock and I felt his hands grab my thighs as I was sitting on him.

"I'm hoping I got this right." I remarked when I pulled my head back.

"You got it exactly right." he smiled, holding the side of my face as his lips met mine once more.
