Gabriel stared down at the patient sleeping in the small side room of the medicentre, the man was nothing special to look at and in fact compared to most of the men of the colony who had muscles on them that they had earned from the construction of the colony and later from working so that the Terra Nova colonists had some chance of survival and now with the destruction of the portal back to the other timeline the colony's survival was even more important.
The unconscious man lying on the bed was certainly not of the same ilk as the rest of the colonies men, he was more of the curvaceous form if she could use that term for a man she thought to herself as she studied him further.
Long lashes cast shadows across his cheeks which were slightly chubby but still defined nicely she thought and his hair was tangled around his head on the pillow where it lay, one of his hands lay rested near his face, his long fingers curling inwards towards his nose which was perfect in size and shape, his chin stubborn and his lips the most sensual she had ever seen on a male and she wondered just what they would feel like to kiss.
Without a doubt the most hauntingly beautiful man she had ever seen a genuine sleeping beauty in the masculine form and she wondered if perhaps a kiss would wake him but as she leaned forward she heard a low moan and looking down saw his eyes beginning to flutter as he fought his way back to consciousness.
Pulling a light from her pocket she reached down and started to wave it in front of his eyes as Boylan started what seemed to be a slow return to reality.
A blinding pain like someone pounding his head against the ground greeted Boylan as he made his way slowly back to consciousness, he could make out a bright light waving about in the receding darkness and a voice which he knew but could not at that moment place.
"That's it Boylan, just follow the light."
Boylan groaned again and tried to bring his hand up to swat the offending light away as though it was an annoying bug but found he was unable to move his left arm easily, it felt as though it was a dead weight and stiff and when he tried to bring it up again to his face he was unable to.
"What is wrong with me…my arm?"
He asked hoarsely his voice blurring as he tried to make his mouth and mind work together but he felt as though he was verbally wading through water and despite his efforts they did not seem to make sense.
"Your arm was fractured when you fell Boylan and is strapped to keep the bone from breaking fully; you also managed to give yourself quite a concussion as well."
"I didn't fall I was hit from behind."
The annoying light stopped as whoever was holding it and trying to give Boylan more of a headache then he already had, stopped at his words.
"What did you mean you did not fall Boylan. Are you saying someone attacked you?"
"That is exactly what I am saying."
"I'll go and get the sheriff he will need to hear what you have to say."

Ryan tried to roll onto is back, the muscles in his back screaming as he rolled, he was in agony. He could not remember everything that had happened or how long time had passed since he had been taken from his room above Boylan's bar everything was just a haze of blurred shapes and sounds.
Not long after he had awoken the first time since his abduction he had been beaten severely by his abductors, his eyes were almost swollen shut and he was certain he had lost several of his teeth and they had not stopped there and had used something with which to electrocute him and his muscles still ached from it.
The feel of someone's hand on his face stroking it with an almost gentle touch but yet still felt rough caused him to flinch and he heard someone hushing him as he tried to move away and telling him to not to move.
The hand disappeared and he felt rather than heard someone move to another side of the room and he assumed it was a room he was in, he had not been totally unconscious when he had been brought into it after his beating he had glimpsed bits and pieces of the place he now lay in.
The floor that he lay on was rough and uneven as though it had been hewn from bare rock and there was little heating in the room so wherever he was he could not tell but he knew wherever it was he was not in the colony any longer.
The sound of something like hinges squeaking as though the door opening and suddenly the room became several degrees colder as he heard another enter the room.

Shannon stood before Taylors desk having just come from the medicentre where he had just interviewed Boylan at the insistence of one of the new nurses who had come with the last ever expedition to come through the portal before it had been destroyed.
He thought back to the woman whose name he had learned from his wife was Gabriel and he had wondered about her, she seemed unassuming but there was strength to her and although she had left the small room when she had led him into it insisting that he had to talk to Boylan straight away because Boylan had some important information for him he was certain that she had not gone far.
"According to Boylan he said that he was knocked out, he had gone to check on Ryan as the lad had not been down to talk with him as he had promised and he thought perhaps that young Ryan was still asleep, he entered his room and saw Ryan asleep in his bed.
He then had planned to go back downstairs but as he left Ryan's room he heard a noise turned to see what it was and that was when he was hit from behind.
The only thing he remembers is hearing two voices before he totally lost consciousness but he couldn't tell whether they were male or female but he did hear the name Weaver mentioned and his interest in Ryan."
Taylor stood behind his desk taking in everything that Shannon told him, he was concerned for Ryan's safety and angry that the Phoenix commander obviously had someone or more than just one person still in his colony and he wanted nothing more than to go out and find his boy but he knew he had to do this logically and not rush in like some emotional fool.
Shannon must have read the emotions that were flitting across his face as he saw the sheriffs concerned and pity filled look as he watched the commander wrestle with his emotions over what had happened in the past few days.
He could only imagine as a parent himself the horror the commander was feeling at that moment and he himself knew that if it was his Josh or any of his two girls who were now missing that he would be feeling the same as the commander right now.
"Commander we will get him back, we will find out where their camp is."
Taylor turned and Shannon saw a determined look on the commanders' face, a grim determined glint in his eyes.
"Oh we will Shannon don't you worry about that and know just how to go about it."
"How?"
Taylor moved from his desk heading for the door Shannon followed not sure what it was the commander was up to and followed him to a one of the lower rooms of the command post. The commander moved towards a piece of equipment that he had never seen before and looked on in wonder as the commander hit a switch and a monitor above their heads came on turning the room into darkness that was then lit up like a sky filled with stars, stars that were moving and still and many different colours.
Shannon turned his head gazing at the small lights and then moved to where the commander was standing typing something into a keyboard.
"What is this?" Shannon asked.
"This Shannon is how we are going to find my son and the phoenix soldiers. A while ago we wondered how we would keep track of every one as the colony got bigger and so the good doctors at the medicentre started inserting small microchips into the back of everyone's neck that came through the portal after the seventh expedition."
"Everyone?"
Shannon reached up with his hand and felt the back of his neck but was unable to detect anything there Taylor turned arching an eyebrow at him.
"Yes everyone, even you Shannon. It is in the paperwork that everyone signs when they enter the colony and until now we have never had to use it well until now we could not. Didn't have the right interface for this thing it was something that young Ryan came up with he is good at stuff like this didn't you know Shannon? It was one of the reasons why he was selected for Terra Nova his skill with communications but also his gift for building new interfaces for the machines."
