Inside your head – Steve Rogers
I was in my dorm room with a massive piece of canvas stretched across a stand which had around half of my art work on so far. I inspected it carefully before finally deciding on how to continue with it, art was the one of the only ways I could express myself. I was so immersed with the painting that I didn't hear my best friend come barging into my room and instantly let out a squeal as she appeared right beside me, holding my paint brush up as a type of weapon. She swatted it away from her face and I noticed she was wearing a worried expression.
"What's wrong Callie?" I asked, making her start babbling about something which I couldn't understand as she was talking too fast for me to comprehend. I tried looking inside her head, but that was a jumbled mess too. "Hey, calm down. I don't understand you, plus your mind's going haywire." I said gently, putting my brush down and placing my hands on her shoulders; getting her to take a deep breath.
"I was mumbling to myself about your telepathy and how it could help me on the maths exam I have this afternoon, but some guy with an eye patch overheard me and now he wants you to go with him somewhere but I don't know where. And I'm scared he's going to experiment on you and I'm sorry." I blinked slowly, trying to process what she'd just said. It was like she didn't even breathe when she was talking.
"I'm sure it'll be okay, but no more talking to yourself okay? That stays in here." I tapped her forehead which made her smile a little.
"You're the best, I love you Lena." She hugged me tightly and I returned it before a knock sounded from my door which moved slightly as it wasn't shut properly. Both of us peered through the crack before jumping back with a scream as it was suddenly pushed open, revealing a man with an eye patch; a handsome looking man and a couple other men who carried guns across their shoulders.
Callie and I stared at them with wide eyes as they came into my room, making me slowly shuffle behind my large canvas towing Callie with me. I reached my power out and peered into the minds of the men surrounding us, seeing that the leader wanted me to go to a place called SHIELD with them where they would use my power to 'save the world'. I swallowed nervously, not fully trusting the idea of going somewhere with people that looked the way they did.
I chanced it and poked my head round the canvas a little, only to be met with a pair of deep blue eyes; making me gasp and jerk back huddling close to my best friend as we held onto each other. The man walked round the art piece and his expression seemed sincere and soft as he looked at the two of us.
"You don't have to be afraid, we aren't here to hurt you." He said quietly.
"You want me to come with you, but I don't like the thought of someone using me for my skill." His face turned slightly confused as he looked at me. "I can see inside your head." I whispered, pointing to my own which made his expression clear up as he got what I meant.
"We don't do that, we help you gain better control of it and then you would perhaps join SHIELD to protect the rest of the population; including your friend." As he motioned to Callie she hid behind me only to be grabbed from behind, making her release a squeal.
"Hey!" I tried to grab her back, but was stopped as the man with the eye patch stepped in front of me, making me move back as he was too close for my comfort zone. I cracked my fingers nervously as my eyes darted around the room for an escape, seeing the door was still open a little.
"Lena, you will-" I didn't hear the rest of his sentence as Callie motioned for me to run. And I did just that, I legged it out the room and through the door; running as fast as my short legs would allow me to down the hallway. I wasn't the best runner out there and I could hear someone coming after me, making me try and get my little legs to go faster; but it wasn't possible.
I was caught round the waist just as I reached the exit door and spun around as they pulled me back, nearly making me trip over my own feet. I looked up and saw it was the blue eyes man that had talked to me before.
"We don't want to hurt you Lena, I promise. We want to help."
"Why does everyone know my name?" I whimpered, curling in on myself.
"Your friend back there seems to have trouble keeping her thoughts to herself." A small smile touched his lips and he motioned back down the hallway. "I'm Steve Rogers and you can trust me when I say you'll be safe when you come with us." I carefully poked inside his mind and saw he was being sincere, making me nod tentatively.
"Will Callie be okay?" I asked, worried about my best friend since ninth grade.
"She'll be just fine, and so will you."
