Liar – Steve Rogers

I was finally going to tell Steve how I felt about him, I'd managed to work up the courage and now I was just trying to find him. I paused outside Fury's office as I heard talking, Steve's voice being one of them. I quietly stepped closer and pressed my ear gingerly against the door, feeling my chest ache as they were conversing about my family. It had been about three years now, but it was still painful to remember.

"The Noel's location is still disclosed, correct?" Fury asked, making me frown.

"Ana and the older siblings are still in relocation, Katie still presumes they're dead and they think likewise." Nat's voice floated to my ears and tears filled my eyes when I realised all of them had been lying to me. I stumbled back away from the door and took off running down the hallway, feeling the tears streaming down my face.

I enclosed myself into one of the many training rooms and roughly wrapped my hands with gauze as I felt the anger rush through me. All of them lied, including Steve. That's what hurt the most. I thought I could trust them, him, but they just ended up being like everyone else in my life. They seem so honest; and then suddenly you see the truth behind the image. A sob escaped me as I couldn't hold it in any longer before furiously punching at the bag hanging from the ceiling by a chain.

I don't know how long I was there for, but my hands were stiff and slightly swollen from the force I had been going at, making them painful to move. I used my arm to wipe at my cheeks to get the dry tear stains off before jumping and kicking the punching bag hard, making it rip off the chain and fall to the floor with a loud bang.

"Whoa, easy there girl." I scoffed and brushed past Clint who was standing near the doorway of the room. "The Captain's been looking for you."

"I don't care." I deadpanned, disappearing down the corridor.

I made my way to the bridge and ignored the stares I received from Fury and some other agents that I didn't know before sitting down in front of one of the many computers and starting to hack into the SHIELD system.

"Miss Noel, what do you think you're doing?" Fury asked as I was slightly aware of Steve entering the bridge a few feet away from me.

"I don't feel the need to answer you seeing as you're a liar." I remarked, continuing to type away all the locks and passcodes.

"Excuse me?"

"Don't play dumb with me Nick, I know about my family. You hid them and made me believe they were dead for three years. You made them believe likewise and I've lost the years with my family which I can't get back just because you felt selfish enough to take me here."

"Get her away from the computer."

I typed faster and clicked enter before the location of my family appeared on the large screen and I was up and running out the room after memorising the address with a single glance. I heard feet running behind me and realised that they were closer than I thought before quickly darting into the room I was allocated, trying to shut the door only to find someone's foot was wedged between the space. The door was pushed back open with more strength than I had before Steve came into the room, shutting the door again behind him. I turned my back to him as tears leaked from my eyes due to the overload of feelings I felt when I saw him.

"Katie, look at me."

"I can't, you lied to me Steve. All of you did, but you hurt me the most. This morning I was going to tell you how I feel about you, now I'm not so sure what I feel anymore. It's still there, but the betrayal is close to snuffing it out." I whispered, sniffing slightly.

"Don't say that." I felt his warm hand enclose around my wrist and he gently tugged me back towards him. "I was roped into knowing this; Fury forced me to keep it a secret when I really wanted to tell you. Every time you came to me about it, it killed me inside knowing that you were completely clueless while I knew."

I sighed softly and turned round to face the man that I had fallen hopelessly in love with, looking up at his blue eyes to see the sadness I felt in them. As soon as our eyes connected, neither of us had to say anything. With one look we understood what the other wanted to say and Steve brought me into a secure hug as I laid my head on his chest, sniffing back the tears. His fingers trailed through my hair in a comforting manner and he dropped a kiss to the top of my head.

"I'll take you to your family in the morning, but for now you need sleep. And you should get your hands looked at, they look painful." Steve said quietly, pulling back slightly so he could look down at me again.

"Thank you Steve." I smiled softly and a light blush dusted across my cheekbones as he placed a light kiss on my lips.
