'I'm All Out of Life'

Rose's POV

I felt useless. I'd been trying to get into Lissa's head through the bond but it was still dark and no amount of pushing or prodding was getting me anywhere. I'd picked the warehouse the furthest away and it was still a few hours away by car. But as soon as I'd seen that map I'd just had a feeling that she was there.

I'd never been good at sitting still, especially not when my best friends life was on the line. My heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest. I could barely breathe. I felt strung out and worn down, but I was not about to give up. This was Lissa, the girl who had been by my side for as long as I could remember.

"The kids are going to go nuts when they hear about this." Oliver chuckled, referring to the Dhampirs we trained at St Josephs Academy in London. I smiled at that. They'd gone crazy when stories of me began trickling through the school. Most of the students had been so impressed that the infamous Rosemarie Hathaway was their mentor, while others wondered what had gone so terribly wrong that she'd wound up teaching them. But the job had made her happier than she'd been in a long time. It had been fun, and different. She was so used to being the sarcastic smartass, not the responsible leader.

"True." I let out a laugh. "Let's hope it's a good story where we kick ass and win."

I felt Dimitri's eyes flickering between us but I didn't dare meet his gaze. I knew what I'd find their; jealousy. But I couldn't deal with that right now. We were in this mess because he couldn't deal with reality once he was turned back into a Dhampir. Because some misguided part of him had decided that tearing my heart out would be the only way to make up for the physical pain he had caused while he was Strigoi. Great plan…not.

I found it ironic that he wanted nothing to do with me until I returned the favour and wiped him from my memories with the help of Adrian. Only then did he realize his undying love for me. I still felt the heartache he had caused though and it couldn't be repaired with meagre apologies and promises of the future.

"I'm sure we will." Oliver smiled, wagging his eyebrows. His clear blue eyes were lit with adrenaline and I'm sure mine reflected the same half-crazed pre-battle look. "We've got the legendary Rosemarie Hathaway on our team. Strigoi slayer extraordinaire and-"

"We should begin strategizing." Dimitri cut him off gruffly and lent forward, holding out a map for all of us to see. It showed the warehouse and someone had marked where all the exits were around the perimeter.

Christian leaned forward. "Alright, strategizing." He looked out of his zone here and I couldn't help but smile despite the circumstances. This, this was true love. Despite being so far out of depth Christian was still willing to jump into whatever was coming for the sake of Lissa. "Cool. How do we do this?" He asked.

"Just follow our lead." I laughed as Dimitri, Oliver and I began to delve into the best possible ways we could go about infiltrating a warehouse full of Strigoi and saving Lissa before she could be harmed.

Lissa's POV

The darkness was suffocating. The Strigoi had abruptly placed my blindfold back on as soon as he'd finished taunting me and I'd spent what felt like hours alternating staring at the black fabric or the back of my eyelids. I was exhausted yet was so afraid to sleep in case I was woken with another bite from a hungry Strigoi. Eventually, though my eyes drifted shut before I could force them to stay open and I found myself pulled into a dream.

I knew it was one of Adrian's before I even saw him. Something about the dream just felt more…substantial than a regular dream. I turned to find him standing near some trees. He hadn't been too original in his location. We were just at the edge of a forest standing in a clearing…and Adrian looked exhausted. I knew he had the ability to change the dreams and make himself look as good as he could so it was a shock to see him so tired that he couldn't even accomplish a crease-free shirt.

"Oh Adrian," I felt myself run to him before I could think and wrapped him in a hug. "You look terrible."

"So do you Liss." He replied, no sarcasm laced his voice, just an incredible about of worry. He reached out and touched the bite marks on her neck. "What are they doing to you?"

I involuntarily reached up to touch them too. I'd forgotten for a moment where I was. "One of the Strigoi bit me, but their Master stopped them."

"Master?" Adrian asked, confusion on his face.

"Let Rose know. I don't know if she's had access to the bond. But she needs to know. These Strigoi are organized and I fear there's a lot of them. I mean, they have a master, and that's not like them at all. They don't normally work together."

"Yeah, that definitely doesn't bode well." Adrian looked concerned. "I mean, they'll still rescue you and all, but if they're really getting organized then they must be planning something big."

"You aren't with them?" I asked. I'd assumed he would be with them, planning a rescue or just providing inappropriate commentary.

"They're on their way to you." Adrian smiled. "And since I have no fighting abilities I figured I'd give it a miss. My spirit is no match for anything they'll be facing soon." His eyes held disappointment and I felt my heart tug. Spirit was a fairly useless ability in a fight unless you'd mastered an ability that could really help. But my healing wouldn't do much against the undead unless I managed to restore a few of them, which obviously would take too much time to really be effective in a battle.

"Don't feel bad." I smiled, "At least you aren't tied to a chair."

His laughter was the last thing I heard before I was dragged back to reality with a slap to the face.

"Helloooo." The Strigoi loomed above me. He'd removed the blindfold at some point and had it dangling from his hand. "Good morning Sunshine. Guess what today is?"

I had a feeling I wouldn't like his answer. "The day you're going to set me free?" I tried to sound sarcastic but my voice was wavering far too much to be convincing.

"Oh, close. I guess in a way you will be free." He grinned, though it was more a showing of teeth than anything else. My heart began to race as the implications of his words began to sink in. Today was the day he was planning to awaken me…

I began to think that my rescuers wouldn't make it in time.

This chapter is a little shorter than the last, but have no fear, I will be updating again very soon. Review and let me know what you think! Will Lissa be rescued in time...or will she be awakened? Dun Dun Daaaaaa...
