Resurrect the Sun - Steve Rogers/Captain America
"I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I'll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, don't leave me here alone
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight.
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound.
Don't you dare look out you window, darling,
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold on to this lullaby
Even when the music's gone.
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound.
Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound." I sang softly as I waited for the attack a dark caster was supposed to launch in this area. I heard clapping and jumped, summoning my magic as I spun around; pausing slightly in surprise as I saw Nick Fury and the Avengers standing there. I blinked, slightly dumbfounded, before retracting the power.
"Miss Summers?" Fury asked, making me nod.
"I was unaware that there would be audience to this fight." I remarked, arching an eyebrow.
"I thought it would be a good idea if the Avengers were to see what the most powerful member of SHIELD could do."
"Yeah, and you picked a real bad time sir." I rolled my eyes and faced the other way again so I could keep eye out.
"Nothing's happening right now."
"I know, but I don't know when she's actually going to be coming. So, it would be better if you left now." The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end from the dark aura being emitted a few yards away. "Too late." I muttered. "Just stay out of the way." I stated, cutting off the dark tendrils of shadow that were creeping towards the super soldier.
An explosion appeared a few feet above my head and I shot a ball of bright light through the middle to disperse the mass of darkness. The dark caster stepped into view in her original form and I heard a sharp intake of breath from behind me before her attention focused on the group. I shot up a shield around them so when she went to try and kill them her spell rebounded off my shield, making me smirk as a screech left her.
"Light caster." She sneered, switching her putrid coloured eyes to me. The smirk stayed in place on my face as she tried to get her shadows to stab me. I nearly laughed at how futile her attempts were.
"Surely you can do better than that?" I remarked, angering her even more.
She threw more shadows in our direction and I soon found myself becoming bored with the pointless attacks. I shot a bright sword of light through her chest and she let out a piercing scream before bursting into tiny fragments of paper-like bits.
"Well that was boring." I muttered, turning back to the group of SHIELD agents behind me.
"That was awesome." Stark remarked with a grin. I rolled my eyes before Fury caught my attention.
"Join the Avengers Miss Summers."
"If you want." I shrugged. "But I may have to go off once in a while to take care of other dark casters." I warned. "So if you find me missing, please don't send an army to bring me back."
He agreed and I found myself walking back to a plane with the Avengers.
"You have remarkable power ma'am." I looked up and saw the super soldier had moved to walk beside me. I gave him a soft smile.
"Thank you Captain."
"Please, call me Steve ma'am." He smiled, looking down at me.
"Then you can call me Andrea."
"Andrea? That's a beautiful name, fitting for a woman like yourself then."
I felt my cheeks becoming warmer and realised I must have been blushing. It had been years since any man had been able to make me do something like that. I looked up at the handsome man beside me just as the sun was rising on the horizon.
"Thank you Steve."
