Oh, that part of town… - Steve Rogers

I let out a scream and shot upright in my bed, looking around nervously before relaxing slightly as it was once again one of my nightmares. I was glad that no one came running in this time, I hated worrying Phil so much. I got up and got ready for the day. Apparently Fury is assembling a team called the Avengers. I laughed a little remembering the Captain America vintage card Phil has, he's so proud of that. A knock came from my door and I went over to open it, finding Phil standing there with a sad expression on his face.

"You had another nightmare, didn't you?"

"I'm fine, it's not like they can happen in real life again. I'm far away from that place now thanks to you." I assured him, kissing his cheek before walking beside him as we made our way to the bridge of the Helicarrier.

As soon as we walked into the room my eyes made contact with the most handsome man I'd ever seen, his blue eyes sparkled in the artificial light and his blonde hair was styled perfectly in a small quiff at the front; much like they used to do in the forties, making me realise that this must be Captain America. I glanced over at my adopted dad and giggled quietly when I saw the excited smile on his face.

"Go over and talk to him then." I smiled, giving him a nudge in the direction his hero was standing. "Maybe he could sign your Captain America card." I sent him a wink as he gave me one of his famous looks before he walked over to him.

I smiled to myself and made my way over to one of the many computer screens in the room, seeing if I could find where the Tesseract was to pass the time. As I was busy typing away I didn't hear someone move to stand behind me, making me jump as a hand unexpectedly landed on my shoulder.

"Jesus, Phil!" I gasped. "You know not to do that, I could have hurt you."

"I know, but I like scaring you from time to time." He chuckled, making me stick my tongue out at him. "I just wanted you to meet Steve Rogers." I slid my gaze over to the man standing beside my dad and a smile slid onto my face.

"It's nice to meet you ma'am." Steve smiled, holding his hand out. I grabbed his hand and was pleasantly surprised when he kissed the back of it, making my cheeks warm slightly.

"Pleasure Steve, you can call me Lyra."

It was late in the evening and I was reluctant to go to sleep, so I retreated to the training room instead of my own; deciding to do a little boxing. I found myself being immersed more than I thought I would and soon the bag ripped from the chain as the force from my punches were too much for it to handle. I stared down at the ripped open punching bag on the floor, breathing heavier than I was before.

"Something on your mind?" I spun around and kicked my leg out in fright, only to have Steve grab my ankle before my foot had a chance to hit him in the face. I wobbled slightly on the one leg I was balancing on and he released his grip, letting me stand normally again.

"Sorry." I apologised, rubbing my eyes with my gauzed hands.

"No, I apologise. I should have made myself known to you before surprising you like that." He said, glancing down at the destroyed bag on the floor. "Is there something troubling you Lyra?"

"Just nightmares." I sighed. "Memories of when I was younger and lived in a bad neighbourhood." I gave him a small smile which cleared his expression a little before he hooked another bag up onto the chain. "Why did you come down here?"

"It's hard getting used to this era." He smiled sadly. "Boxing helps me clear my mind and get myself back together again; it's something that I can control."

"Looks like we both have nightmares we want hidden."

"It appears we do. Lyra, would you do the honour of boxing with me?" Steve flashed me a dazzling smile which made my lips turn up into a grin.

"I would love to Steve."
