"I can't believe this has happened." Quinn is sitting in disbelief in the front seat of Will's car, her breathing is shaky, but her tears have all dried up.
"I am so sorry Quinn, I truly am. They – They need you to identify the bodies. You have to understand that there is really no one else to call. It was just Kate, your parents and you." He glances across at the blonde, trying to read her thoughts...If only he could see inside the mind of Quinn Fabray.
"I know. I want to get Kate. Can we go and get Kate please?" Panic rises in the usually controlled voice of the blonde.
"Maybe we should wait until after," Will suggests, keeping his eyes focused on the road ahead. There are never many cars around in Lima. The streets are usually very quiet.
"What will happen to her?"
"She'll become a ward of the state," the man takes a deep breath in, "Unless you take custody. You're turning 18 in two months...It's still legal for you to be responsible for her." Will looks over at the blonde, parking the car and registering the shock and fear on the blonde's face.
"I...I'm..." Quinn shuts her mouth; she doesn't know how to respond...A child is a huge responsibility.
"Try not to think about it; try to focus on the task at hand. Do you want me to come with you?" His eyebrows are furrowed with concern for this innocent cheerleader sitting in the passenger seat of his car, he'd never imagined in a million years that he'd be the person to deliver this kind of world changing news to a student.
"Yes please...I can't do this alone. Thanks for driving me, Mr Schue. You're a really good teacher." She looks at the man, seeing him in this light makes her feel warm inside her chest, a feeling she cannot explain. She shakes it off and steps out of the car.
Upon seeing the tangled mess that was her parents, Quinn immediately murmured a small 'Yes, that's them.' before bursting into tears and burying herself in Mr Schuester's shirt. She couldn't bear to see them like that. That's not who they were. She knows no matter what they did to her in the past, they did not deserve to end up like that. No one deserves to die like that. They were almost unrecognizable.
The blonde had to sign some papers before they could leave, confirming the fact that she identified the bodies as Russell and Judy Fabray.
"Quinn, are you okay? You haven't said anything since we got in the car," Quinn sat staring out of the window from the parked car, the same way she'd stared the whole way to the child care centre.
"Can you please come with me to get her?" Quinn looks into Will's eyes, and tries not to cry. She doesn't want any of this; she doesn't want her parents to be dead.
"Sure, are you going to be able to sign her out of care?" Will asks, concern growing that she might not be able to.
"Yeah, when they enrolled her in this centre, they put me down as the first person to contact...That's why I thought something was wrong with Kate when you first got me out of class."
"Really? First contact?"
"They were busy...Too busy for their two daughters, apparently. I thought that they'd try to fix all the mistakes they made with me, when raising Kate...but they didn't...Not as far as I saw."
"Are you ready for this?" Will stands up in the car park, strides around to Quinn's door and pulls it open for her.
"No. But, I want her with me right now," She says, exhaling aggressively.
"Quinnie!" Kate exclaims when the blonde enters the room, followed by Will. He was a man unrecognisable to Kate, causing confusion to flash across her face before beaming back to excited with the fact that her sister was here early today.
"Hey baby! How are you?" Quinn asks, kneeling down and squeezing the four year old into a tight embrace.
"I'm good Quinnie, we did shapes today!" The child looks up into Quinn's big hazel eyes, proud of her day's achievements.
"That's awesome, baby! Do you want to come for ice cream?"
The child's blue eyes dart back to Will, "Quinn, who's that?" She asks, shying behind her sister and pointing to the unfamiliar man.
"That's my teacher, his name is," Quinn looks to the older man, silently asking permission to introduce him as Will. Her request is met with a small nod and a big smile towards the child, "Will." She finishes, grabbing Will's jacket sleeve, bringing him towards the child.
"Hi. I'm Kate. I'm four and I go to Butterfly Room." She smiles at Will, meeting his grin.
"It's nice to meet you, Kate."
"Can we go for ice cream now, Quinnie?"
"Yeah, sure, baby girl. Let's go." Quinn grabs the girls hand and directs her towards her car.
"Do you need to sign Kate out early today, Miss Fabray?"
"Kate, can you go with Will to the car, please?" She's talking to the child, but she's looking at Will.
"Yeah, come on sweetie, you can tell me about your favourite ice cream flavour!" He beams at the child.
"What's going on?" Anna asks, looking into Quinn's eyes.
"There was an accident," The blonde says, sparking immediate shock on the brunette's face.
