The Music Never Leaves - Clint Barton/Hawkeye

"Dear god,

The only thing I ask of you,

Is to hold her when I'm not around,

When I'm much too far away,

We all need that person who can be true to you,

But I left her when I found her,

And now I wished I'd stayed,

Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired,

I'm missing you again, oh no once again." I sang softly to my little sister as she slept peacefully in the plain hospital bed in the blandly coloured off-white room. I slid two of my fingers under her small hand and smiled lightly as she tightened her grasp on them slightly.

My sister was ten, eighteen years younger than myself, and she had cancer. In my opinion, she didn't deserve it; no one does really. But she was such a good child, the opposite of me when I was her age. Both of us were different from everyone else though. My sister had the power of levitation and flying, whereas I could build force shields around anything and was skilled in hand to hand combat.

My head snapped up as I heard numerous pairs of footsteps coming down the hall and immediately knew they weren't doctors due to the fact that it wasn't time for any of Maddy's medication yet. I created a small shield around the bed to protect her before standing from the chair I was in and moving to the corner of the room behind the door.

The door slowly creaked open and a man with a bow and arrows entered the room, he looked like an assassin. I gathered my courage before jumping and kicking the bow out of his grasp, making him turn to face me in surprise. He tried to grab me and I ducked quickly before sending a quick fist to his gut, making him release a grunt before dodging his fist as he swung it for my head.

"Who are you?" I asked before squealing as he managed to grab my fist and twisted, pulling me in close until he could trap me between his arms.

"Clint Barton, Agent for SHIELD. Are you Maddy Williams?" he replied. Before I could say anything another man came into the room wearing an eye patch.

"Maddy, you will be coming back with us to HQ."

"I'm not Maddy, she's my sister. And you aren't taking her anywhere, she has cancer and needs to stay here." I stated firmly, breaking free of Clint and going over to stand nearer my little sister. The two men realised that there was a little girl in the bed and tried coming closer, but my shield stopped them. I allowed a small smile onto my face at their confused expressions before dropping it as they looked at me.

"Who are you then?"

"Emma Williams, Maddy's older sister. And I'm not letting you take her, she needs the medication here." I noticed Clint's expression softened slightly as he looked between us. The man with the eye patch tried coming closer and I shoved him back with the shield, making him stumble back. "I'm not letting you any closer to her."

"Are you doing that? What are you actually doing?" he demanded.

"I see no reason why I should answer when you're being so rude." I remarked, hearing Clint snort lightly as he contained a laugh. I glanced over at him to see him wink at me.

"Are you preventing us from getting any closer Miss Williams?"

"Yes." I replied simply. "I'm not letting you hurt my sister."

"We don't want to hurt her, we want to take her back to SHIELD where she will be protected from other that would want to use her powers for bad."

"I'm capable of protecting her. I'm doing it now aren't I?" I commented. "And you're forgetting that I'm her older sister, she most likely got the gene from me."

"And what power do you have?" he looked at me sceptically. I pushed him back with my shield and this time nearly made him fall over.

"You can create protective shields." Clint answered, making me send him a small smile.

"Then you will be coming with us as well." the other man stated.

The window shattered and I stopped the glass shards from hitting any of us. A group of men came through the window and I knew from the way Clint retrieved his bow that they were not good. I made the shield include the two agents from SHIELD before facing the intruding men.

"We are broken,

What must we do to restore our innocence,

And all the promise we are torn,

Give us life again,

Cause we just wanna be whole." My voice was soft as I sung the small chorus and watched as they fell to the floor, asleep. I nodded in satisfaction before turning to the SHIELD agents who were looking at me in surprise. "Music never leaves." I smiled.

"Emma." I looked towards my little sister to see she had woken up. She reached her frail arms towards me and I gently lifted her up into my own.

"It's okay princess, I'm still here." I said quietly, making her bury her face into my neck.

"Miss Williams, if the both of you come with us I can guarantee that your sister will receive the best treatment that's out there. Our doctors and medical staff are some of the best out there."

I sighed and nodded, only relenting because I wanted my sister to get better. He strode out the room and I was left with Clint as I carefully detached Maddy from all of the machines she was hooked up to.

"Where are we going?" she asked.

"We're going on an adventure baby girl." I smiled at her as I wrapped her up in my coat so she wouldn't get cold. "And you're gonna get better sweetheart, then you can fly around to your little heart's content." She giggled and wrapped her arms around my neck as I carried her on my hip.

"You're good with her." Clint remarked as I walked beside him down the hospital hallway.

"Our dad left when she was two, then our mum died a year later. I've looked after basically since she was born; our family was torn apart because both of us were different. They didn't know what to do with us, so I moved away and took Maddy with me."

Clint's attention turned to the little girl in my arms as she went to pull an arrow out of the quiver on his back.

"Not a good idea sweetheart." he chuckled, turning slightly so she couldn't reach them. I put her arm back around my neck as I let Clint lead me towards a large black car. "The music never leaves right?" I shook my head. "It's only just beginning." he grinned.
