Don't let the past rule your mind – Clint Barton
"Agent down, medics required immediately. I repeat, Agent Coulson is down." Fury's voice flooded through my earpiece, making my blood run cold.
"No!" I gasped, taking off in a sprint in the direction of their location.
Tears filled my eyes as I saw my father slumped on the floor, propped up slightly against the wall as Fury crouched beside him. I dropped down to my knees beside my father and desperately felt for a pulse in his neck, letting out a sob when I couldn't find it.
"He's gone." I whispered, feeling the tears streaming down my cheeks. Fury moved away to give me space and I hugged my dead father, crying into his shoulder.

I was sat at the table in the meeting room, crying into Steve's shoulder while he tried to comfort me. Everyone was silent as they didn't know what to say, I think they were just as shocked as me.
"I understand if you blame me." Steve said quietly, making me look at him with teary eyes. "I was supposed to be his hero and I didn't save him."
"It's not your fault." I sniffled. "True, you were his hero, but he didn't expect you to save him. I don't think even he knew what was going to happen." I pulled the vintage Captain America card from my pocket and slid it over to Steve, making him look at me in shock. "He'd want you to have it." I gave him a weak smile before he took it and hugged me again.
"I think we should do it." Tony announced, catching everyone's attention. "We should become the Avengers for Agent Coulson, both of them." He sent me a light smile and I couldn't help the wave of fresh tears that brimmed over my eyes.
Clint came into the room with Fury and my heart clenched at the thought of having to tell it another time that my father was now dead. He looked over at me and I could tell by the look in his eyes that Fury had already told him the news which I was slightly grateful for as I didn't think I could repeat it again. Clint came over and Steve sat back in his seat while the man that I had fallen for embraced me tightly in his arms, comforting me in a way only my father could do.
"I'm sorry, this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't have gotten caught by Loki." He whispered, making me shake my head.
"The only one to blame here is Loki." My voice hitched slightly from the crying I had done the past hour. "And you might want to get in line behind me to kick his arse." Clint chuckled and pulled away slightly.
"I think I could allow that." He gave me a wink before taking the seat opposite me as Fury began talking us through the Avengers Assemble plan that my father had thought of. I glanced over at the other side of the table to see Natasha give me a knowing smile as she tilted her head discretely towards Clint, making me look down at the table top in slight embarrassment.
"Just tell him Marcy, you do not want to wait until you have lost the chance." Thor whispered to me, but his whispers weren't that quiet. "Do not let the past rule your mind."
"Good advice there Thunder." Tony agreed, flashing me a grin. I looked up to see everyone looking at me as they knew which I didn't know how they found out, but Clint looked absolutely clueless.
"What's going on?" he asked, looking over at me. "What don't I know? I'm feeling a little left out here."
Fury motioned of the both of us to leave the meeting room which surprised me as he never side-tracked from anything before. Clint followed behind me as I trailed out the room and shut the door behind him before turning to face me.
"What's wrong?" His blue eyes connected with mine and I felt the comfort that I could always obtain off him.
"They want me to tell you that I've liked you for a while now. That's why my father always managed to get us on missions together, hoping that you'd either find out on your own or I'd have enough courage to tell you how I felt." I said quietly, looking down at my feet as they suddenly began interesting to me.
"Looks like you beat me to the punch then." I felt his fingers grasp my chin and tilt my head back up so I could see his face again. His lips connected with mine softly and I felt my heart melt along with the grief as I could feel my father still with me.
The both of us pulled away as someone cheered from the other room, making us look back towards the meeting room to see the rest of the Avengers' faces pressed against the glass door watching us. Clint shooed them off with his hand before leaning down and kissing me again, making me smile as my cheeks burned pink.
