Knives and shields – Steve Rogers

I nearly threw a dagger at Fury as he barged in on my training time, making me look at him in annoyance which was apparently his signal to start talking to me about another mission.

"No." I stated, cutting him off mid-sentence.

"Agent Girard, I don't think you realise how important this is."

"We had a deal Fury, after I helped you take down Loki you let me choose which missions I go on." I said. "I had JARVIS record it in case you 'forgot'." I smiled cheekily at the frustrated look on his face.

The door opened again and on instinct I threw a knife, only to hear it bounce off something metal; making me frown slightly as I realised it was a familiar looking shield. I flicked my gaze up from the shield and to the face of Steve Rogers, feeling my cheeks warm slightly as he looked down at the knife by his feet before he looked at me.

"Sorry." I apologised, seeing the hint of a smile touch his lips. "What are you doing here?" I asked.

"The captain is the only one going on the mission."

"Did I ask you? No." I remarked, glancing over at Fury before switching my attention back to Steve to see him full on smiling.

"I was wondering if you would accompany me on this mission, but I can see Fury has already beaten me to it." He replied, smiling a little sheepishly.

"Miss Girard-"

"Just so happens to be accepting this mission as well." I grinned, cutting off Fury once again; making him look at me with an arched eyebrow. I motioned for Fury to keep quiet as Steve turned his round for a second before plastering a smile on my face as when he faced me again.

"Then should we begin our deployment?" Steve asked me, offering me his arm which wasn't holding the famous red blue and white shield. I felt my cheeks heat up a little, but took hold of his arm nonetheless and allowed him to lead me out the training room I had secured myself into earlier in the morning.

"You know, you're lucky you have quick reflexes." I commented as we were walking down a corridor, making him glance down at me. "I could have stabbed you and then I wouldn't have been very happy with myself."

"Why wouldn't you have been happy?"

"Because you would be dead!" I replied, frowning a little at his kind of stupid question.

"I meant why would you not be happy I was dead." He clarified bumping into me slightly as we turned a corner.

"Because you're one of the nicest people here and I wouldn't want you to leave me on my own." I cringed slightly as I sounded little a small child, but Steve either didn't notice or chose to ignore it.

"You should know one thing Camille, I would never leave you." He smiled, looking down at me with his sparkling blue eyes and I found myself nearly fangirling on the inside.

"Good." I said softly, letting myself smile as we carried on walking towards the bridge where we were to be debriefed about our mission. "Do you have something that you really want?" I asked randomly, looking up at him as his expression turned from one of confusion to a small almost embarrassed smile.

"Why? Are you going to make an illusion of what it is?"

I shrugged innocently as he caught me and he placed his hand on my forehead, making me shut my eyes as I focused on what his mind was thinking. I felt the illusion slowly seep out of me and opened my eyes again to see what it was, making my breathing hitch slightly as I saw a perfect replica of myself staring back at me.

"Me?" I whispered, breaking my gaze from myself to Steve; seeing him smiling down at me with a light pink dusted across his cheeks. He nodded and the illusion vanished as I pulled him down before attaching my lips to his, kissing him as I felt my chest fill with warmth of want.

"You." He smiled, confirming my question and making me smile.
