Orphaned angel – Clint Barton
I was perched on top of a rooftop, watching the destruction unfold around me; making me frown as innocent people were getting hurt on the ground below me from strange alien-like men. My eyes snapped to a male figure that was falling down the side of the building located to my left. I unfolded my wings and jumped from my perch, allowing my wings to catch the wind beneath them before quickly flying to his aid, catching him under the arms to stop him falling. I plopped him back onto the roof and he turned round to face me as I hovered in mid-air, giving him a smile.
"Mari Brent at your service!" I saluted him and saw the hint of a smile on his face before he shot an arrow only a couple inches past my face, making me blink in shock before glancing back to see one of the aliens falling through the air. "Do I get to know your name?"
"Clint Barton, are you any good at fighting by any chance. We could use a little help from the air."
"I second that!" A man in a metal suit yelled out as he flew past faster than my wings would ever let me go, making me laugh slightly in surprise.
"I have no weapons, but I can do hand to hand if that's anything." I said, turning my attention back to Clint.
"Better than nothing!" he called out, running to the other side of the roof to shoot more arrows at the aliens who were causing trouble on the other side. I decided to keep a lookout for the man wearing the metal suit as Clint had told me they needed help in the air which I was presuming meant him, seeing as he was the only one with the capability of flying.
I saw him coming past again and readied myself before falling from the edge of the roof, colliding with one of the things chasing behind him and knocking it off the hovercraft-like object. I wobbled precautiously as I landed on it and quickly grabbed the steering contraption, swerving dangerously close to the corners of buildings as I had no clue of how to drive a car let alone something that was airborne. I pulled a face of frustration before finally getting the hang of it, realising that this thing also had laser guns attached to the sides, making me experiment with all the buttons before finding the correct one as a blue laser shot out and hit two of the aliens away from the flying man. He gave me a thumb up before finishing the last couple on his tail himself as I saw a red headed woman waving me down.
"Can I use that?!" she called, making me nod as I didn't really need it, I have wings anyway. She got a jumping boost from a man with a metallic shield, making me jump up off the hovercraft as she landed on it, spreading my wings out to catch the wind again and keep me airborne.
I spotted a small child on his own in the wrecked streets and tucked my wings behind me, letting myself shoot downwards towards the ground before snapping them back out when they caught on fire from the phoenix in them. I snatched the boy up into my arms just before the aliens could get to him and flew higher so they couldn't reach me. His big blue eyes looked at me with the innocence I missed as a child due to being orphaned at six years old.
I found the boy's parents as he pointed them out in the crowd that was running away and I floated down in front of them, nearly giving them a heart attack before they took their son from my arms; thanking me with tears before continuing to flee the scene with the police escorts. I found Clint now on the ground and wondered how he had gotten down, quickly brushing the thought from my mind seeing him nearly swarmed by aliens.
"I was wondering where you went off to Angel." He remarked when he saw me beside him, getting the people out the trashed bus behind him.
"I never left. And my name's Mari."
"I know, but you look like an angel, so I gave you a nickname." He winked before piercing an arrow into an alien's chest, making it drop dead a few metres away.
"Are flirting with me at a time like this Barton?" I asked, giving him a mild look of shock.
"I may be, no better time like the present Miss Brent."
"Perhaps when we're not fighting aliens would be better." I said, ducking as a piece of metal nearly met my head. "But after maybe we could get to know each other better."
"Central Park tomorrow at ten. We'll go for coffee." He gave me a grin before disappearing off into the thick of the battle to help his comrades, leaving me there to help the bus passengers with a dopey smile on my face.
