RRTAB: Read, Review, and Tell A Buddy!
Usagi sipped the tea Luna provided for her as Mamoru explained the mission to Luna and Artemis. She watched with a smile as Diana played with her toys on the floor.
"Well, Mamoru," Usagi heard Artemis say. "If you're trying to get to Nagoya, your best bet is to stay in the forests like you've been doing."
"But Beryl knows that Sailor Moon has returned," Luna added.
Artemis nodded. "She's put a lot of security around the cities south of here. The Southern Headquarters might be completely blockaded by now. If it's even possible for you to get in, it'll be extremely difficult."
"But nothing you two can't handle together," Luna said cheerfully. "Speaking of together, Mamoru—."
"No," Mamoru cut her off before Usagi could hear the question.
Usagi frowned. "Did I just miss something?" she asked. "What were you about to ask, Luna?"
"I was just wonder if you two—."
"Luna, shut up!" Mamoru hissed.
"—were together yet."
After Luna's explanation, a uncomfortable silence grew between them. "Luna," Usagi said slowly. "What would give you the idea that we were together?"
Mamoru shot Luna a glare, daring her to say anything else. Luna said nothing more but smiled mischievously. She and Artemis stood. "Come on, Diana," she said to her daughter. "It's time for you bath." The small child crossed her arms in protest but burst into laughter when her father pick her up and swung her over his shoulders. The little family walked out of the room, leaving Mamoru to clean up the mess that Luna made.
Usagi sighed. "This was a mistake."
Mamoru's eyes shot up to meet hers. "What?"
"Coming here with you," she said in frustration. "It was a mistake. I can't take it, Mamoru. Things are already confusing enough for me right now and you making it ten times worse."
"Me? How am I making things worse?" he demanded an explanation.
"With all your secrets! And whenever someone starts to tell me something just to make things seem a little clearer, you always try to shut them up. Just stop it! I don't need any more secret right now! Why can't you just tell me the whole truth?"
"You think this is easy for me?" Mamoru asked.
"Well, I know it's not a walk in the park for me," Usagi replied. "You know the entire truth. I, on the other hand, was just thrown into a world where everyone either hates me or thinks I'm dead and the one person with some answers won't share them."
"Because I'm trying to spare you!" Usagi said nothing else so he continued. "For ten years, I've been dealing with the fact that you disappeared without a trace. I've been trying to figure out ways to get you back all while dealing with memory after painful memory. I told you only what you needed to know so you wouldn't have to deal with the memories that the rest of us have had to suffer though. You want the whole truth? Fine. We died."
"Mamoru…"
"I was stabbed and you killed yourself. All of the senshi died one by one in the most painful way imaginable."
Usagi shook her head, not wanting to hear any more. "Stop…"
"I laid on the floor, bleeding to death. The sword cut through my spine. I was paralyzed. I couldn't move. I had no choice but to watch you, the woman I love, use my sword to take your own life. You stabbed yourself directly in the heart. You were dead before I was. You took the life I tried so hard to save. You killed my princess. You were selfish. And despite it all, I still am madly in love with you. Are you happy now, Usagi? There's the truth you were so eager to learn."
Usagi shook her head. Tears brimmed in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Mamoru."
Mamoru's features softened and whatever anger he had subsided. He pulled Usagi to him and captured her in a hug. "I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have snapped at you. You just wanted answers."
She shook her head. "Not for yelling. I'm sorry that I was selfish. I don't remember what happened, but I sure I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm so sorry."
Mamoru held on tightly to Usagi. "Please don't disappear anymore."
"I think the lover's quarrel is over!" Usagi and Mamoru heard a loud whisper come from the doorway. They broke apart to see that the voice belonged to Luna. She wore the same mischievous smile she wore before. She was covered in soap suds and water.
"Wow, Luna," Usagi said softly. "Diana's a handful, isn't it?"
The young mother sighed. "You have no idea."
The two heroes slipped out of Luna and Artemis's house when night fell. Though it was the night of the new moon and the street lights were either flickering or completely broken, Tuxedo Kamen advised Sailor Moon to stay in the shadows.
They continued through the crumbling city quickly and quietly. They had to be careful. The news of the dead youma clerk spread throughout the city's security and now the youma tried their best to find whoever was responsible.
"They won't find out that it was Artemis," Mamoru told Usagi when they were still in the house. "They'll punish a random citizen. They'll probably torture him."
"That's terrible," she had said.
Mamoru shrugged. "If they found out it was Artemis, they'd kill his entire family and be right on our tails. I don't like it, but it's a sacrifice that has to be made for the sake of the greater good."
They used the alleys to their advantage, slipping into them whenever someone came their way. They didn't say a word until they reached the city's outskirts.
Tuxedo Kamen let out a breath he didn't know his was holding. "That took long than I thought," he admitted. "The security was stronger. They weren't supposed to let anyone out of the city."
"How far is Nagoya from here?" Sailor Moon asked.
"About a one and a half away," Mamoru replied. "We'll have to camp out when we get about twenty miles away from here."
The two continued to walk until around four in the morning. Sailor Moon collapsed. "I need a break," she said.
"We've gotten pretty far," Tuxedo Kamen reported with a smile. "I'll start a fire."
The hero and heroine sat under the stars that night but both found that they couldn't get to sleep. They snuggled together beside the fire to keep warm. They shared space under the warmth of Tuxedo Kamen's cape. "Mamoru," Sailor Moon broke the silence between them.
"Yeah?"
"I just wanted to say thanks. For helping me even though I've acted like a spoiled brat."
Tuxedo Kamen chuckled. "Not a problem. I'd do anything for you, Usagi."
They looked at each other. "You're really great. Have I ever told you that?"
The hero smiled. "You could mention it a few times more," he said, his voice only a little louder than a whisper.
They leaned towards each other. Their lips were only millimeters apart. That is when Mamoru turned away, leaving Usagi hurt and confused. Usagi looked away from him and at the fire. "I'm sorry," she said, trying not to let the hurt show in her voice. "I-I thought that—."
"I can't," Tuxedo Kamen stopped her words to explain himself. "I'm sorry but I can't."
"But you said…," Usagi tried to make sense of the situation. "When we were at Luna's house, you said—."
"I know what I said," he said. "But you're fourteen. I'm a grown man. We're not starting this."
"Technically, I'm twenty-four," Usagi reminded him.
"Stop it," Tuxedo Kamen shook his head. "Technicalities and appearances don't matter, Usagi. In here," he tapped on her forehead. "You're still fourteen. And I'm not starting something I can't finish."
Usagi silently pouted. She just wanted a kiss. It wasn't like she was asking him to marry her! Tuxedo Kamen chuckled at her antics. "You'll understand when you're older," he promised.
"You'll understand when you're older," she repeated his words in a mocking tone.
He chuckled again. "And that's why I won't kiss you. Get some sleep. We have to get going soon."
And that's the chapter! Sorry it's short. I was going to make it longer but this seemed like a good place to stop for now. Well, love it? Hate it? Tell me in a review!
There's more to come but that's for now!
