Unexpected - Tony Stark
Tony's POV
It was getting quite dark as I walked the streets of New York a couple miles away from my home in Stark Tower. I was going past an alley when I heard crying. I would have kept walking, but it sounded like a young child. I may have the arc reactor in my chest, but I still had a heart. I side-tracked myself so I made my way into the alley and followed the cries to where I thought they sounded.
I felt a frown appear on my face as I walked over to a large dumpster and lifted the lid, peering inside. My eyes widened as I saw a newborn baby clad in only a diaper lying in the bottom of the dirty container. I threw the lid up so it stayed open before leaning in and reaching down for the baby, lifting it out and feeling how cold it was. As soon as I held it to me, it stopped crying.
I had a peek under the diaper and found it was a little girl before cradling her to my chest and zipping my coat over the both of us in an attempt to get her warmed up. I hurried back out the alley and nearly ran the rest of the way back to the tower.
As soon as I got up into my penthouse I ran into the bathroom and began running a warm bath. When it was half full I pulled the small baby from my chest and took the diaper off before gently lowering her into the water. I couldn't help the chuckle that left me when she jumped with a look of shock on her face.
"You're okay, it's just water." I said, holding her so she wouldn't slip under as well as supporting her head. She waved her arms a little and I smiled down at her as I carefully washed the water over her to get her clean.
"JARVIS get someone to go out and buy baby supplies. Especially diapers." I said.
"Yes sir, someone will be sent right away."
I sighed a little in relief before lifting the dripping baby out the tub, smiling as she was adorable. I wrapped her in a towel and lightly dried her off.
"Guess I should think of a name for you, huh?" I said, making her big blue eyes look at me. "How 'bout Sapphire Stark? You like that sweetie?" She gave me a toothless smile and I felt my heart melt, she was gorgeous. "Why would anyone want to throw you away?" I muttered.
She vanished suddenly in front of my eyes and panicked, but realised that I could still feel her nestled in my arms. She appeared a few seconds later and I felt my heart rate slow back to normal.
"Ah, that's why." I mumbled, moving the towel away from her face. "So you're an invisible baby. How did that happen, huh?"
I walked into the living room to see that baby stuff had been deposited onto one of the armchairs and quickly set to work on changing her into a clean diaper and rummaged around, finding a light pink baby grow which would keep her warm. I had a little trouble getting her into it as she wouldn't keep still.
"Hey, it's okay." I cooed as she started crying. "Shh, I'll look after you. I won't let anyone hurt you, I promise." I picked her up and leant her against my chest so her small head was on my shoulder. I held her with one arm as I pulled a bottle and milk powder from the bags. "We'll be alright."

I stared up at the ceiling on my bed in bed with my arms around Sapphire who was sleeping peacefully on my chest, the small amount of black hair on the top of her head tickling against my chin. I glanced down at her as she released a small whine and saw her face was scrunched up. My thumb stroked the back of her head and she eventually settled again. I sighed softly and made sure I had a secure hold on her before closing my eyes.
I can honestly say I wasn't expecting today to end the way it did, but I got a beautiful baby girl out of it which was enough to satisfy me.
