Terra groaned as her eyes fluttered open. She found herself lying on the couch in Basil's flat with a quilt sprawled over her body. She must have fallen asleep after her encounter. Terra felt her stomach drop, Ratigan was alive. The white mouse shook her head.
'No, I can't think about that. Put on a strong face, Terra.' She scolded herself as she folded the quilt and wandered into the kitchen where Dawson and Mrs Judson were. The doctor was reading the newspaper when the female mouse wandered in. He looked up and offered a smile.
"Good morning, Terra." Terra smiled as she sat down across from the surgeon.
"Good morning, how was the gala last night?"
"Frightfully dull. Basil was restless the entire night." Terra chuckled. She tried her best to make the laugh seem natural, but it came out forced. However, Dawson and Mrs Judson didn't pick up on it.
"That sounds like him." Dawson nodded. Mrs Judson turned and smiled at the young mouse. The old land-lady placed a plate of food in front of the female doctor.
"You must have been very bored and cold, Miss Terra. When we came home last night, you were shaking like a leaf on the couch and the fire was out." The white mouse forced herself to remain calm as Miss Judson mumbled something about tea on her carpet. Terra gave her head a shake and proceeded to nibble and pick at the plate of food in front of her. She had lost her appetite when her thoughts turned to him. Terra was pulled from her quiet thoughts when Basil trudged into the room.
"Good morning." He greeted in a sleepy tone and Terra snickered lightly, despite herself. Basil was in his house robe and his fur was a mess. He noted her snickering and promptly glared at her.
"Is there something you find amusing, Doctor?" Terra calmed her giggles and looked at the detective.
"Not at all." She smirked.
"Then why are you giggling?" She shrugged.
"Oh, no reason, I just thought that you look rather funny with your fur being a mess." He scowled at that and Dawson and Mrs Judson chuckled at that. Basil frowned and sat next to her. Terra gave him a sideways grin and continued to nibble on her food. Basil noted this and tapped her shoulder.
"You know, you shouldn't play with your food." He stated as he took a sip of his tea. Terra rolled her eyes.
"I'm not very hungry." Mrs Judson frowned at this.
"Miss Terra, you need your energy. You will surely have a very long day." Terra smiled at this.
"Thank you, but I'll be alright. Excuse me." She stood and left the room. Basil lifted an eyebrow.
"That was rather peculiar." He remarked and Mrs Judson glared at him.
"Let her be, Basil."
Terra lingered outside the door with a sad look on her face.
"If only you knew..." She muttered as she stepped out of the flat and into the street. The rising sun had painted the buildings gold and orange, Terra paid the scenery no mind. Both mice and humans were beginning to awake and step out to go to work for the day ahead. The white mouse's ears perked up when she heard something. A bell. Terra broke away from the crowd and stepped into a darker alley.
"Hello again." Terra swallowed as a pair of blood-shot yellow eyes peered out from the darkness. Ratigan smirked as he stepped into the dim light.
"What do you want?" He shrugged and started to circle her.
"I was just making sure that you haven't breathed a word to any of your little friends, especially Basil." Terra frowned.
"I haven't told them, and I haven't made my choice yet." Ratigan hummed.
"Good." He turned and started to retreat into the shadows.
"And remember Terra," He looked at her over his shoulder.
"Not a word about this." Terra swallowed and stiffly nodded. He smirked and retreated back into the shadows, leaving her alone. Terra let out the breath that she didn't realize she was holding. The mouse stiffly picked up her brief case and stepped back onto the sidewalk. Ratigan smirked as he watched the white mouse leave the alley.
"Don't be a fool, Terra."
