"Caroline what the hell is wrong with you?" Damon's eyes bulged.

The blood on her shirt wasn't her own, he noted with slight relief. Did that mean she'd already transitioned then?

"Why do you care, Salvatore?" She spat out. "Since when do we even talk?"

Oh, she hadn't then. He sat down next to her. She seemed so unreachable, staring off into the distance.

"I haven't been completely honest with you." Damon started. Caroline didn't even so much as look at him when he spoke.

"Oh you mean it wasn't 'being completely honest' when you took my memories from me and made me forget the love between us before you let me jump you again, rendering it completely useless?"

Damon flinched. She knew. It was obvious then, that she was a vampire, right? Something seemed off. She didn't seem like a vampire yet.

"Did you transition already?" He asked, carefully, studying her. Her eyes were red-rimmed. She'd probably been hysteric. Caroline hated not being able to make her own choices, and Damon knew that. But she hadn't started yelling at him yet. He didn't quite know what to think about that. Torn between being relieved and worrying that she might not transition.

"No, not yet. It's not as if I have a choice anyway." Her voice seemed broken. All the strength she usually posessed was gone.

"I'd like for you to have a choice, but I don't think I could bear you dying, and would consequentially force blood on you." Damon sighed. Caroline scoffed.

"You don't have a say in my transition, after what you did."

It felt like cold water in the morning. Harsh, Icy, and alerting.

"So you are mad?" Damon asked, even though he knew the answer. Knowing made it no less painful.

"Mad doesn't even begin to cover it. But I have 20 hours left before I become the thing I never wanted. I won't waste that precious time arguing with you about your wrongdoings."

"You're going to transition?"

It allowed him to hope. Forever was a long time he could use to win her back. She couldn't despise him forever. She now remembered the feelings she'd had for him. They would bring her back into his arms eventually.

"Perhaps you didn't hear me earlier. I don't have a choice in this matter." Caroline spoke with a voice so cold it almost sent shivers up his back.

Her words always gave him a tingle of hope, but the way she said it, it was as if she'd shut off all her emotions already. Her voice seemed so dead.

Even at the beginning of their connaissance she'd never spoken like this. Some sort of feeling had always shone through. Whether it had been disgust, fear, or annoyance. This emotionless bravado was worrying.

"You...don't have a choice?" Damon responded. Caroline scoffed, shaking her head. She began to laugh a bit. It was a hysteric sort of laugh, as if the situation they were in was something laughable. Harmless, entertaining, comedic, even.

"Yep. Because if I die, then they can use someone else to take my place. Might be less potent, because they won't be direct descendants, but what do I know, huh?"

Her laugh carried on, and she looked at Damon with upset eyes, all the while laughing, asking him if he didn't see the hilarity in the situation.

"There's something else. Can you believe it? It gets even better. Because if Caia comes to town, before I'm a vampire, she'll use Casper's blood to turn me, and I won't have escaped my fate either way. Life is amazing that way, right? Why am I laughing goddammit?" She cried out, her demon teeth potruding.

This was becoming a very special brand of hell for Damon. He was sitting here, watching the girl he loved go insane, slowly.

And he could do nothing but watch.

When her head turned abnormally to the side, and her face turned fully demonic, he couldn't bear to watch any longer. He sped away.

"What do normal human beings even do on these kind of days?" Bonnie sighed, rolling off of Jeremy, sighing.

"I don't know. But I got a text from Tyler earlier asking to hang out in the grill."

"You do know about him, right?" Bonnie asked, unsure.

"His potential as a werewolf? Of course. We were both in Caroline's confidence, you know?"

"You say it like we aren't anymore." She pursed her lips, her eyes skeptic. Jeremy shrugged.

"Well, these days her life is pretty Damon-dominant."

"We wiped her memory."

"I saw them leave together after the charity event." Jeremy murmured, his face somewhat displeased. He got up, and pulled on some clothes. Bonnie quickly followed suit.

"That's because she won him. It was a bachelor auction after all."

Jeremy snorted.

"I don't even know why they put themselves through so much torture. It was so completely unnecessary to erase her memory. And if she ever finds out, she'll never forgive us."

"You had no part in it. It's me she'll hate for preparing the squid ink powder."

"I didn't defend her rights. It's what I'm supposed to do." Jeremy said, his voice frustrated, his hand in his hair. Bonnie fell into step next to him. The air outside was harsh and unforgiving, and there was a slight storm coming on.

"Look, I know how you two are with each other. There's a deeper bond than friendship there. You're family. That won't change if she finds out. Besides, how likely is it that she'll find out? Let alone remember?" Bonnie challenged, interloping her arm with Jeremy's.

"I suppose you're right." Jeremy admitted.

They fell into silence, but Jeremy's head felt heavy, laden with questions that he needed to ask Caroline. He hadn't heard from her in a while though.

His bond with her had been usurped by Damon the last couple of days, weeks, and he didn't like it. Why couldn't Damon just stick to his plan and leave her the fuck alone.

Looking at Bonnie from the side, he started to ask himself questions. Why had he condoned Bonnie's actions? He should've, no, they should have all let Caroline handle her life exactly the way she chose.

He felt like a horrible excuse for a brother. He should be with Caroline, talking to her. It occured to him that it wasn't just her that was finding other people, ever since he'd started dating Bonnie, he'd had less time for Caroline, since he moved out of the Forbes' house.

It was time to repair a friendship, he supposed.

They entered the grill, to find Tyler. They said hi, and started a round of pool.

"So my uncle Mason came to town." Tyler started. Jeremy listened attentively. "He's acting weird, you know, one night he went 'excercising' for a whole night."

"Could be that he has a massive sex-drive." Jeremy shrugged. Bonnie blushed. Somehow this was still a touchy subject for her.

"No that's not it, cause he'd talk to me about that. I think it's drugs."

"He doesn't talk to you about drugs?" Jeremy raised his eyebrows and scoffed.

"I'm the son of the mayor. In his opinion I'm always trying to kiss my dad's ass, and I'd venture that that's why he won't tell me of his illegal doings." His voice was nonchalant.

"Well, he is right about that."

"Dick."

"Yeah, yeah. So, drugs?" He prompted.

"I think maybe you should come around, try and see if he looks like someone that takes drugs. You'd be good at doing that, seeing as how you are the resident druggie."

"You and I hit up many a joint together, asswipe." Jeremy commented. Tyler shrugged non-commitally.

"I may have taken them but I never dealt them."

"You do know I kicked the habit?"

"Really? Bonnie have anything to do with that? Did she vow to withhold sex if you didn't?" Tyler teased. Jeremy laughed.

"I'm right here Tyler." Bonnie raised an eyebrow, and Tyler sent her a wink.

"Nah, I'm cool with it."

"It was his own choice." Bonnie smirked, folding her arms. The smugness didn't exactly suit her though. Tyler's laugh rang infectiously through the grill.

"I don't think I've ever seen a bigger cry for help in a man's eyes. Jer, you, Matt and I, we're going to need to go on a night out sometime soon." He clapped him on the back as he lined up his shot. Silence overtook them for a few minutes.

"So have you've seen Caroline?" Tyler asked, suddenly.

"Why?" Bonnie asked.

"Well I just thought since she's now Damon-free, I might..."

"Are you out of your mind?" Jeremy laughed. "Damon'll have your head for just thinking about it. She may be compelled, but he most certainly is not. And his feelings have not subsided in anyway. In fact I think they've grown stronger. Sorry, dude. I just don't see a chance for you here."

Jeremy was feeling worse by the second.

"Why don't you play for me Bonnie. I'm going to go try get ahold of Care." He murmured, leaving a shunned Tyler and confused Bonnie in his wake.

"Jeremy?" Caroline's voice echoed through the phone.

"Caroline, where are you?" He begged. He heard her sigh.

"It's a bad time right now Jer..." She started, but he began to cut her off.

"You're with Damon, aren't you?"

"No. He was with me earlier, I scared him off, but that's not important." Caroline rambled. He heard a growl of some sort.

"Where the hell are you?"

"I'm at the Falls." Caroline finally admitted.

"I'm coming to get you right now." Jeremy declared soundly. He heard sounds of protest, but elected to ignore them, shoving his phone deep into his pocket in a moment of venting aggression.

He got there fairly quickly, sprinting most of the way.

"I have been informed of the presence of a human Doppelganger. Think of what this could mean, Klaus. You could get what you always wanted. You could finally break free." Greta's voice was booming with excitement.

"That is impossible, as the Petrova bloodline effectively ended with Katerina Petrova when I slaughtered her entire family." His tone of voice was nonchalant, yet oddly interested.

He remembered the rush he felt when he'd consumed the pill that had turned him into a wolf. It was his true form. It was how he should have been, how he would have been, had his mother not placed that spell on him.

"The sources I have are pretty reliable. And even if it isn't a human doppelganger, that means we know where Katherine Pierce is hiding." Greta shrugged. Klaus smiled.

"Quick thinking, well done." Greta blushed at the praise. "Where has she been spotted?"

"Small town in Virgina, name is 'Mystic Falls'." She read out, the name obviously held no meaning to her.

Well he supposed it was due time that he paid his respects to Caroline. Perhaps he'd even have a chat with her mother.

A middle-aged blonde woman came into the mystic grill, leaned against the bar, and took in the scenery. Her eyes were hidden behind sunglasses, and her entire body was covered in leather.

The bartender came to her place, a young man of about 18 years, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

"Hello Miss, what will you be having?"

"Give me some voodoo." She dismissed. "I'd take some information as well."

"Ask away madam." He suggested. "Nate, Rum, Tia Maria with rum cream as a shot please."

"Does Caroline Forbes still reside here?" The woman's voice was somewhat reserved, and as she took of her sunglasses, he looked at her icy blue eyes that almost seemed white.

"I believe she does. You a friend of hers?"

"I'm an old acquaintance. Need to have a chat with her. Where's her house?"

"You got a pen?"

"Caroline?" Jeremy called out, panting slightly. Hands resting on his thighs, bending down slightly. She was standing on the edge of the cliff right now, the sun hanging somewhere in the sky, and it seemed as if it was about to fall down any second now, and cover them all in darkness. The area around Caroline seemed darker, he noted.

"Jeremy. You got here rather quickly." She spoke, tight-lipped, unmoved. She wouldn't look at him.

"What are you doing here Care?" He tried to touch her, but she moved further to the edge. Not wanting to agitate her in a potentially dangerous situation, he took a few steps backwards.

"I'm wondering whether I should be selfish. I could very well jump right now, and stop whats happening."

"What is happening?" Jeremy's tone of voice was an alarmed one, and Caroline just wouldn't turn around, she ignored him and kept speaking.

"But then some poor girl would take my place. Can I really force my life on some innocent little girl? I don't think I could."

She wrapped her arms around herself tighter, her whole body beginning to shake. Jeremy carefully stepped next to her, and put a hand on her shoulder, turning her around to face him. Her eyes were red from crying.

"You're talking nonsense. Nothing is going to change, and you don't have to kill yourself."

"Oh jer. You smell good, you know?" She sighed in annoyance. Jeremy sat down, and patted on the ground next to him, urging her to follow.

"Remember when we were little we'd climb here every friday evening and made our parents sick with worry over where we were?" He reminisced, and she laughed, slightly, but it came out broken and more as a sob. Jeremy looked at her, his expression full of empathy.

Caroline sighed.

"I think everybody believed we'd end up together."

"We sure showed them, huh?" Jeremy chuckled. Caroline smiled.

"You have no idea how important you are to me Jeremy." Caroline sobbed. Jeremy hugged her into him, and in response her breathing got heavy, until she stopped breathing at all. She was holding her breath?

"You know I return the sentiments, right? However important I am to you, you're like, twice as important to me."

Caroline blinked at him from under tearful lashes, and began to speak with a shaky voice.

"We have pushed each other away while in our respective relationships. I really hope you don't take this the wrong way, and I hope you can find it in yourself to forgive me." She breathed out.

The last thing she remembered was Jeremy's confused look, and then his scream as she bit into his neck.

After that all she felt was the blood.

Well, I think the story shall be coming to a wrap soon, and that means that our time together will come to an end soon, but rest assured, there'll be a chance of a sequel I suppose, after I get the sequel to my first story done. :D It has been a long while.

Thank you for reading 3
