Chapter 4

-Four score years ago (actually it was just eleven weeks) Nina Martin began summer vacation with her wonderful boyfriend Fabian Rutter. Now four score years into summer vacation there is a bit of tension between the pair of overly averagely good looking teenagers.-

"Come on Nina! I thought they were no secrets. I certainly remember us making a pact that secrets are overrated." Nina pulled the cover over her modesty and sighed. "Fabian, please, just bear with me okay. I don't want you to be burdened with my problems. Please." Fabian wasn't having any of her sweet pleading. "Nina, you promised. And it's with my best friend. There is no lee-way right now. No loop-holes. He clearly doesn't want me to know, and neither do you, so it must be something big." Nina stood up and wrapped the blanket around her as she walked over to where their misshapen clothes lay.

"Fabian, I'm putting on my clothes and I'm going to go make you some tea." She was already half-way clothed by the time she finished her statement. "Nina. I don't want tea. I want the truth. So spill." "I'm sure you'll wind up spilling your tea, sweetheart."

Now Nina was fully clothed and Fabian in his boxers, and heading for the door. Fabian got there first by half of a millisecond and blocked her exit. "You know you won't keep me in here." Nina said trailing a finger up his chest.

No children, Nina Martin was not above seduction. (But only to her boyfriend of course.) Fabian took her finger and in his hand and brought them down to their sides. "Yes Nina I will, and you know I will, so you better get comfortable because this room will be our tomb if I don't find out what's going on."

"You wanna know so badly? Fine. I'm dying. I'm might die in three , I said it." Nina pretty much yelled. Fabian dropped her hand in a flash and complete and utter confusion hit him like fireworks on Fourth of July. "I'm sorry, what?" Nina moved away from him and back onto his bed. "You badgered me and I gave you the honest truth. Is there something else that you wanted?"

He moved to her spot on the bed. "You're dying? Last time I checked you were in perfect health. I don't think a dying person could do what we did. As many times as we did." She glanced over at him raised one eyebrow. Her eyes held a skeptical look. Was this really the time to that, of all things, up? "Surely there's a better way to measure someone's life than how many times they can have sex." Nina deadpanned.

Fabian shook his head, almost as if to rid the thought of what she is saying might be true. About the death thing of course. Surely someone who was dying wasn't as active as she was.

"That can't be possible. Nina Marie Martin, tell me that is one giant lie and that you are playing some cruel joke on me because I swear if this is real..." he trailed off watching her face. "Oh my god, you're not kidding." He pulled her into him, hugging her closely.

"Am I really going to lose you?" He asked. "I don't know Fabian; you were never supposed to find out. Once I was cured, it was supposed to be like nothing had changed. I-I don't know." She shrugged her shoulders and looked up at him helplessly.

Fabian got up and moved to the other side of the room. He wiped his hand with his face. "What were you going to do with Eddie? What could he have done that I couldn't have?" Fabian said, and that last part had something laced in. Was that jealousy?

"Fabian you just went back to stage 1 of Eddie being my protector. And besides, if he couldn't save me, it wouldn't be as emotional if you couldn't save me. I remember what I heard you went through when I fell into the chasm. And I wasn't dead then."

Fabian just kind of stood and looked at her as he took this all in. This wasn't fair. He had yearned for his girlfriend for damn near a whole year and then he finally gets her back, but then the Fates just wouldn't let him have her. This story couldn't possibly have a good ending. She had to be fucking dying. Screw his life.

Nina saw his wounded puppy look. This was probably just as hard for him as it was for her. He would have to deal with the death of someone he truly loved. There are no roles to be reversed, no one would ever understand his pain because no one else's girlfriend and was the Chosen One and was dying under circumstances.

She walked over to him and stood directly in front of him. His hands easily and naturally took their place on her hips. She stood on her toes cupped her boyfriend's cheeks. "Maybe," She said, "we can forget about these issues and pick up where we left off." She raised her eyebrows suggestively. "I think I'd fancy that very much." He whispered back before pulling her up by thighs to straddle his torso. Their activities left them too occupied to think about Nina's impending doom.

One Week Later

Patricia groaned, carefully folding another pair of lace stockings. "Uh! Why do I own so many of these things?" Eddie walked in, carrying a box of miscellaneous things. "I don't know. But I'm not complaining. I think they're hot." He plunked the box on the bed. "Are you almost done? We still have the rest of the apartment to get ready." Eddie looked around at their room. They spent the entire time decorating it and painting it, and really it looked like bomb of Eddie and Patricia exploded. "Nina and Fabian can do that, we're the lazy ones. Remember?" He laughed and jumped down onto the bed, making Patricia's folded clothes jump and land everywhere. "Eddie! Those took me like thirty minutes to fold!" Eddie laughed and pulled her down on the bed with him.

He climbed on top of her and showered her face with kisses. Patricia and tried to tell Eddie to stop. He kissed her a few more times before taking her lips to heaven.

Someone loudly cleared their throat in the doorway. Eddie looked up for a second, almost contemplating just continuing before removing himself Patricia and sitting on the bed.

"Hey there Fabian. And Nina." Nina turned towards them, having been focused on at the apartment.

Nina waved and smiled a little. "The place is nice. How'd you pick it?" She and Patricia were out to a much needed GDO (Girls Day Out) when Eddie and Fabian were nice enough to check the apartments on their own, keeping Nina and Patricia's standards in mind.

"Classiest one and it's only about couple miles away from the school." Nina nodded and said a quick excuse before going off to explore on her own.

The place was pretty classy, and she could picture where the furniture and regular decorations would go. Nina coughed a little, then a little more before she was coughing up sprouts of blood. "Oh my gods." She whispered.

"Nina! You okay?" Patricia yelled from in the room. "Um. Yeah, I-I'm fine!" She yelled back, frantically searching through her purse for a tissue or something she could wipe up the blood with. She finally found a little pack of tissues and quickly wiped the red substance away. She stood up held her hand to her chest.

Nina walked back over to the room where everyone was animatedly talking. Fabian smiled at her and she forced a smile back at him. She looked over at Eddie and bored into his shoulder until he looked at her, feeling her stare. Something happened. Something big.

They didn't need words, the message got through to him loud and clear. They guessed a regular day painting walls and putting furniture up was out of the picture.

Nina felt her chest heaving again. She began to choke as liquid tried to escape her throat. It was only a few mere seconds before she had everyone one's attention.

Nina could taste blood in her mouth the metallic taste only worsening her situation as she began to gag. She could barely hear the worried voices of her friends as fell to the floor, heaving and spitting out blood before her head hit the hardwood and everything went dark.
