*Chase's POV*
Well, that sure started awkwardly. I was surprised that Ally's chef was shocked to see me, or anyone for that matter. Maybe he already knew about what had happened at school yesterday. I do remember Ally saying that they were extremely close. I thought some more about Ally and Rupert as I jogged up to the front door. I swung it open and walked inside, only to find Davenport, Bree, and Rose all staring at me.
"What?" I asked nervously.
"Chase," Mr. Davenport said a little too calmly for my liking. "Where were you?" I quickly glanced at Bree and Rose. Bree just shrugged and I could tell that she was just as surprised as I was that Davenport knew something. And Rose… was guiltily avoiding my eyes. Rose ratted me out to Davenport.
"I was… um… working on a project for school," I answered as honestly as I could. Hey, technically I was working on a project, I just left out the part about it being a partner project.
"And this project, you were working on it alone?" Mr. Davenport unnecessarily asked. I already know that he knows exactly where I was, so I don't get why he was drawing this out.
"No," I sighed. "I was at someone's house working on it."
"Someone," Rose scoffed. I shot her a look and Bree quickly hit her in the arm. If Davenport finds out about Ally's reputation at school, he'll never let me speak to her again. He'll never let any of us speak to her again. Not that Bree and Adam would mind that much. But they don't know her as well I do. I'm not saying that I'm an expert on all things Ally Anderson, but I definitely know more than both of my siblings combined.
"Tell me Chase, who is this someone that you're referring to?" Davenport asked.
"This girl Ally," I shrugged, downsizing the fact that her being my partner is actually a pretty big deal. "Mrs. Arnold paired us up for a biology project. I just came from her house now."
"I kinda got that part already," Mr. Davenport said. "Chase, you know you're sensitive to new things like this. You can't just go around to people's houses every day. What if something happens to make you mad? What if Spike comes out and you end up destroying half their neighbourhood?"
"Well, if that happened I would have destroyed our house too," I mumbled.
"What!?" Rose demanded. "Chase, where does Ally live?"
"She lives about a block away," I sighed. I spoke up again when Mr. Davenport opened his mouth to speak again. "Why is this so important? It's not like she knows about the lab or anything."
"Of course it's important! Chase, everything in your life is important! And since it's so important, nobody can know about it!" Davenport exploded. "You know that if anyone found out our secret, you would all be taken away by the government for testing. And I for one, am not going to just sit back and let a teenage girl take away my greatest creations!" With that, Mr. Davenport stalked off, absolutely fuming. I sighed again and turned to face Rose who had gone back to avoiding looking at me.
"Rose?" I asked sadly. "Why did you rat me out to Davenport?" I mean, how could she? She was supposed to be one of my best friends and she kinda just betrayed me. Friends aren't supposed to do that.
"I'm sorry," she said remorsefully. "I know I should have kept my mouth shut, but it just slipped."
"How does something like that 'just slip'?" I asked, rolling my eyes. I love Rose, and I know she hates Ally, but telling Mr. Davenport about me going over to her house is pushing it.
"Well, Bree went to the bathroom and Mr. Davenport said 'Hi Rose, what's up?'" Rose replied, still looking at the island countertop. "Really, I don't see how I couldn't not said it."
"Pretty easily," Bree cut in from the couch.
"Rose, we talked about this," I sighed. "I know you don't like her but it's my choice to hang out with her or not. It's not like I'm asking you to become her best friend or anything. Just be pleasant whenever you're around her."
"That's kind of a tall order," Rose mumbled.
"Rose," I said warningly. "Please just be nice, for me."
"Ugh," Rose groaned. "Fine, I'll try to be nice to the little she devil."
"Thank you," I smiled, throwing my arm over her should in a sort of half hug. "I appreciate it."
"Yeah, yeah," she grumbled with an eye roll. "Just be lucky that I like you."
"It makes me feel special every day," I told her. "So, what are you guys going tonight?"
"Girl talk," Bree cut in before Rose could say anything. "Major girl talk, movies, junk food, facials, manicures, and possibly pedicures."
"Wow, and just when I thought you couldn't get any more stereotypical," I told her, earning an eye roll from my sister. "I'm going to the lab." I left Bree and Rose in the living room and went down the hallway to the familiar secret elevator.
*Leo's POV*
"So Rose ratted you out to Big D, huh?" I clarified when Chase came into the lab.
"Yeah," he sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I guess I should have seen it coming. I mean, she hates Ally enough to get me grounded for life just to keep me away from her. Which is ridiculous considering we're just biology partners."
"Hey I told you man, the girl is evil," I said, reminding him of the conversation we had once Rose found out about their bionics. It basically consisted of me warning Adam, Bree, and Chase that their secret had a pretty good chance of coming out now that some girl knew and they should plan for the worst case scenario. For digging a secret tunnel from the lab, other parts of the house, and every single one of their classes, all meeting at a secret location so they can make a fast get away. But they didn't listen to my very genius idea. They never do.
"Rose is not evil," Chase said. "She just doesn't like Ally. I'm not sure why though."
"You mean she hasn't told you yet?" I asked incredulously.
"No," Chase said suspiciously. "You saying you know why Rose hates Ally?"
"Heck if I know," I shrugged. "I'm just surprized she hasn't told you or Bree yet. You guys are her best friends."
"Yeah, well it must have been pretty bad," Chase said with a distant look on his face. "Oh well, she'll tell us eventually."
"I wouldn't hold my breath," I sang. Chase cringed.
"Leo, Davenport told you, no singing," Chase warned. "The high pitched sound is too much for my bionic hearing."
"Man, you guys and your 'bionic set backs'," I grumbled. "If I had bionics I wouldn't waste any time whining. I would do what any normal kid would do."
"Run out and tell everyone," Chase guessed.
"… Maybe."
