*Ally's POV*
Once I got back home from my jog I ran into the kitchen to talk to Rupert.
"Hello princess," the chef greeted with a warm hug and a kiss on the top of my head. "How was your run?"
"It was great," I answered, pouring myself a big glass of water. I had drained my water bottle before I left the park and I was still really thirsty for my exercise. "I ran into Chase and his brother at the park."
"Oh really," Rupert said, instantly leaning in closer. "And how did that go?"
"It went okay I guess. His brother Adam kicked a soccer ball from like, seventy feet away and it hit me right in the head."
"Are you okay?" Rupert rushed to ask.
"I'm fine," I assured him. "But Adam said that he didn't even kick the ball very hard so I have no idea how it got all the way to me."
"Maybe the boy just doesn't know his own strength," Rupert shrugged. "Puberty hits some people hard."
"Ugh, you said the p word," I groaned. I know what it is and I've gone through it and everything, I just don't like the word. Kind of like I don't like the word panties. No reason, I just don't like the word.
"So that was it? His brother hit you in the head and they just left? You really need to work on how you phrase things. You got me all excited for nothing," Rupert complained.
"You sound more like a teenage girl than I do," I sassed. "And I'll have you know something did happen."
"Well don't just sit there, tell me!" Rupert urged. I swear he was more excited about this than I am.
"Well, Adam went off and started throwing his ball around and Chase told me that his sister had a friend staying over for the weekend and them and his step mom have taken over their house and his step brother left early this morning and his dad is hiding from all the women so I told him that he could come over," I explained.
"You're blushing," Rupert said simply.
"What?" I asked. I am so not blushing! What's there to blush about?
"As soon as you said his name, you started blushing," Rupert informed me.
"Um, I don't think so," I said. "My face is probably just still red from my jog."
"Uh huh," Rupert said with an eye roll. "So I assume Chase took you up on your offer."
"Yeah, I told him that he could come over whenever," I said. "He'll probably text me or something first."
"I would assume," Rupert nodded.
"But until then, I'm sweaty and I need to take a shower," I said, getting up from my stool.
"Let me guess, you'll change your clothes as well," Rupert guessed.
"Well I'm not gonna put the clothes that I sweat in back on," I said reasonably.
"Okay, I guess you have a defense to every offense." What does that even mean? I didn't reply and instead left the kitchen and ran up to my room. I threw my bag on my bed and took my phone out. I didn't have any new messages. Good, gives me time to make myself look good. I went into my bathroom and looked into the mirror. Oh gosh, is this really what I looked like when I was talking to Chase? My ponytail had become slightly loose and a few strands of my hair had fallen out. My face was still a little red from the exertion and I just didn't look very good. I cannot believe Chase saw me like this. I know he didn't say anything so he must not have minded that much, but still.
I pulled my hair out of my ponytail and walked out of my bathroom and into my closet to get some clothes. Once I grabbed something comfortable that I wouldn't mind Chase seeing me in, I headed back into the bathroom. My phone buzzed from my bed before I closed the door. Figuring it was Chase I checked it.
Too many females. Can I still come over? ~ Chase
I giggled to myself and replied.
Yeah I'm just gonna take a really fast shower cuz I'm sweaty and gross ~ Ally
I didn't think you were gross ~ Chase
My heart sped up, I am not even joking.
Well I feel gross :p you can come over in about 20 minutes ~ Ally
I'll see you then ~ Chase
Looking forward to it ~ Ally
Was that too much? I really hope not. I don't want him thinking I'm desperate, or even interested in him. If he knew I had a slight crush on him he might be weirded out and not want to talk to me anymore. That would be even worse than the populars ditching me. I threw my phone back on my bed and went back into my bathroom. Now to get clean…
I winced as I dragged my brush through my wet hair. Ten minute showers usually end with my hair being so tangled it takes double the amount of time just to brush it without crying from pain. But I was on a schedule, so I sucked it up. Sure enough my hair was naught free within two minutes. I wrapped my towel around me tighter and spent another five minutes making myself look as good as possible without making it look like I was trying. I went back into my room, letting all the steam in the bathroom out. I checked my phone and found a text from Chase waiting for me.
Good time? ~ Chase
I will be awaiting your presence ~ Ally
…? ~ Chase
… Don't judge me ~ Ally
I'll never judge you ~ Chase
I smiled to myself after reading his text. There was just something about Chase that assures me that he'll never judge me. That's very important to me right now. And forever. I looked down and saw that I was still only in my towel. Chase is on his way. Chase only lives a block away. If I don't hurry, Chase will see me before I have clothes on. That thought sure scared me into moving back to the bathroom to get dressed. I quickly changed into my aqua colored shorts, a cream colored tank top with a geometric design in light shades of blue, purple, green, and pink, and I slid on a pair of pink flip flops. I hate walking around in bare feet.
"Ally?" Rupert's static filled voiced asked through the intercom. I ran out of my bathroom and pressed the button by my bed.
"Yeah Rupert?" I said back.
"Chase is here," he said simply.
"Here as in, in the house here, or here as in, outside here?" I asked. I heard a familiar chuckle through the speaker.
"I didn't really understand that but here as in, right here next to me," Rupert said. So it was Chase I heard.
"Send him up!" I said loudly. Dang I probably sounded desperate again! What is wrong with me!? I'm just excited. Rupert didn't say anything for a while so I assumed that Chase was on his way up. I grabbed a ponytail from my end table and pulled my hair into a high ponytail. My hair was still practically soaking wet and I hate it when wet hair is in my face. Does that annoy anyone else or is it just me?
"He's on his way up right now," Rupert whispered. "He should be at your door in less than ten seconds and counting."
"Why are you whispering?" I asked.
"So he won't hear me," Rupert said simply. I rolled my eyes.
"Thanks Rupert," I said. "Bye now."
"Have fun Ally," he told me. "But not too much fun." Oh my gosh. What is with this guy? I mean seriously? C'mon. A knock on my door stopped my eyes in mid-roll. Even though I was expecting it, I jumped about a foot in the air. I rushed over to the door and straightened myself out in the full length mirror on the back of the door to make myself look more presentable. I took a deep breath to compose myself, and swung open the door with a big, probably stupid looking, smile on my face.
"Hey," I greeted.
"Hey," Chase said back. I opened the door wider for him to come in. "You seriously have an intercom to the kitchen?"
"Yeah, why? Is that weird?" I asked hurriedly.
"It's not something I've ever heard of before but I don't think it's weird," Chase said just as quickly. I awkwardly laughed.
"Well, you're officially down to only one female, what do you want to do?" I asked. Chase laughed and followed me to my bed.
"I don't even really care as long as I don't have to hear about nails, dances, or boys," Chase listed.
"Dang, and I was really hoping that you would tell me your favorite nail polish color," I joked. He just laughed again and swung his back pack to the floor before sitting on the corner of my bed.
"Well, personally I would for a good shade of blue," he continued. Now it was my turn to laugh. I mean come on, you would too.
"Was it really that bad?" I asked.
"Oh yeah. It was pretty bad," Chase said seriously. "And Tasha wasn't making it much better."
"Is Tasha your step mom?" I asked. Chase just nodded. "Why was she making things worse?"
"Well, she never had a daughter before so she takes every chance she gets to act all motherly towards Bree," Chase explained. "Which I get, but it sucks for us guys sometimes." I just nodded before a thought struck me.
"Hey, you don't have to answer this if you don't want to but… what happened to your biological mother?" I asked hesitantly.
"Oh," Chase said awkwardly, clearly shocked by my question.
"You don't have to tell me," I rushed to say. "I was just curious."
"You and me both," Chase mumbled. I don't think I was supposed to hear it, but I did. "I don't know. Honestly I never really thought about it."
"You never knew her?" I pressed. Chase raised an eyebrow at me. "Okay, I'm just gonna shut up now."
"It's okay," he shrugged. "But no, I never knew my mother. I've never even thought about her or anything. I have no memory what's so ever about her."
"Your dads never told you anything about her?" I asked. Chase just shook his head.
"Not a thing."
"Oh," I said. We were both quiet for a while and I regretted even bringing it up.
"What about your parents?" Chase asked randomly. I froze.
"What do you mean?" I asked cautiously.
"I mean where they are. This is the second time I've been to your house and I've never seen them. And you've never said anything about them either."
"Well, my dad works a lot," I said, choosing my words carefully. "And my mom uh… died seven years ago." Chase's face immediately softened and he looked a little guilty.
"I'm so sorry," he said softly.
"It's okay," I shrugged and gave him a small smile. "Can we just… not talk about it?" I asked hopefully.
"Yeah, of course," Chase quickly agreed. "What do you want to do?" Before I could even open my mouth to say anything, the intercom turned on again.
"Kids, if you're hungry, lunch is ready," Rupert said. I smiled a bit bigger and sent Chase a questioning look.
"Hungry?" I asked.
"I can eat," he shrugged.
"Good, because I would have forced food down your throat anyway." I looked at the intercom box in shock. But then I realized I had pressed the button out of habit and Rupert heard what we said. Chase looked a little bit scared.
"Wow Rupert, you're going to scare him off," I sighed.
"Oh please," Rupert scoffed. "Once he tastes my enchiladas, he'll never want to leave. And I know you won't have a problem with that, will you Ally?"
"Thank you Rupert!" I exclaimed before quickly taking my finger off the button and switching the intercom off. I looked up at Chase and he was just looking plain uncomfortable. I laughed awkwardly. "Chefs… whatcha gonna do?"
