Authors note: Sorry for the long time since I have updated. School got the best of me. I hope you enjoy it. It is a decent length.
"No, please Doctor tell me we can leave now. Please tell me that the TARDIS can take off." The Doctor studied the screen quickly before answering. "No somethings locked onto us. We can't leave." I shut my eyes tight against reality. "Why, What planet is this. why do you want to leave so badly?" Rose asked. "
" I don't know the name of the planet but I recognized the coordinates." I took a deep breath. "The last time I was here, there was a man. He wasn't human but he was evil and greedy. He found out I'm not human and wanted to know why." I looked at the floor. "I couldn't tell him because I didn't know. But he thought I did know so he tortured me. I escaped before he could do anything that would really mess me up but not soon enough." I looked into the Doctor's kind eyes and finished. "I won't know if he is here until I step out that door, but if I say his name he will find me. He melded his mind with mine, in a sense." I took a deep breath and said the words I had yet to say while traveling with the Doctor. "I'm scared."
He took two steps and wrapped me in a hug. i held tight to him, gaining confidence just by his nearness. When they say that family doesn't have to be related they are right. The Doctor is my family, and so is Rose.
"Well in order to leave, we have to go out there and find the machine trapping us." I nodded. "Just don't leave me alone and I will be fine." With those words we joined hands and walked out the doors. As soon as we were out the doors though we were teleported.
********** Doctor's Point of View********
I landed and looked around not dropping my companions hands. I could only tell we were in a spaceship like building. I saw guards surround us and they ordered us to walk. We obeyed and they took us to a large metal room. Inside there were three large metal boards with leather straps on them. One had a man already strapped to it, but he was so covered with blood and strips of what I assume used to be clothes that he was unrecognizable. In the middle of the room was a man who I did recognize. "Master." I said through gritted teeth. He turned around and faced us. "Doctor what a nice surprise. I wasn't expecting you, but you did bring me the one I was expecting." "Koschei." Katie stated from behind me. She said it with so much anger in her voice I was startled. "Put the man and the blond up." He said and I was grabbed by two guards and lifted up onto one of the metal boards, so was Rose. "What about her?" one guard asked. "Put her in the center." The Master replied. I struggled but they were stronger than me for once. "Now Doctor play nice or I will just have to hurt your pretty friends. I froze. I allowed them to put me on the board and strap me down. Then I heard Rose's voice. "Doctor who is he?" The guards walked out as I began to answer. "He is called the Master. He is a Time Lord I grew up with we were friends but then he went bad." "What was that that Katie called him?" "I called him by his name. His real name not his title." Katie replied before I could.
"Yes, and now that, that is straightened up we get to play a game. I do whatever I want and whoever objects earns a punishment for the others. Also if you fail to answer any of my questions then you also earn a punishment for the others. One or all I will decide. If you want to say something you have to nice about it." He grinned maniacally. "Oh and I should probably introduce you to our other player." He half skipped over to the man on the third metal sheet. He grabbed a hose and sprayed the blood off of the man, and then removed a knife from the mans chest. I glanced at Rose she was watching the Master but Katie was staring at the ground.
"Katie you will want to look at this man" The Master stated and Katie obediently looked up at the man. I heard her gasp so I looked and to my amazement I saw Captain Jack Harkness. He had yet to look up. "What was that name?" He asked the Master. "He said Katie. That is after all my name, not that you ever called me by that. No, you called me something very different didn't you. I name like music of the sweetest kind." Katie spoke to the man and I hoped this was the man she had been searching for. I heard a kind of strangled half sob half gasp come from Jack. "Now I know that I really am going crazy. It finally happened, congrats Master you broke my mind." "No Jack, she really is here. I don't know anything about another name but we've traveled with Katie for a while now." Rose spoke up this time. "It's true Jack and she is like nothing else."
Jack finally looked up and around, he saw Rose and me on the boards then looked to the center of the room. I thought I saw tears in his eyes when he saw her standing there. "No No No this is all wrong. You can't be here not with him. He'll kill you." Jack said in a voice sadder than I had heard in a long time. "He can't kill me. No more than he can make you stay dead." He sighed. "Well in that case." He paused then smiled that winning smile, even though it didn't mask his pain. "Captain Jack Harkness at your service ma'am." Katie giggled and I stared, the only time she had ever giggled was when she was reading a book.
"Glad to meet you Jack. I don't think I…" she trailed off for a second then started again. "Thanks you came to me right when I needed you." She grinned then turned to me. "Yes I can giggle and laugh and be full of joy without being engaged in reading or talking to the TARDIS." She smiled and in that smile I saw that even though she was worried and scared she was happy for the first time.
"Good now that all of you are properly introduced time to start our game."He moved from Jack's side, finally putting the knife down on a table next to him, and walked over to Rose. He reached up and stroked her cheek. "I don't believe I have had the privilege of meeting you. What is your name?" He smiled deceptively kindly. "Rose." She choked out. I gave her a sympathetic smile while the Master moved from stroking her cheek to rubbing her arm. "I can see why the Doctor would choose to travel with you. I would almost take you to be my empress but I would hate to touch a woman another man has touched, especially that man." He turned to me. "But tell me did you choose her for her looks or something else? What was it that caused you to offer her a chance to travel with you?" I looked into her eyes and answered. "She saved my life, and was so brave about it. It would not have been fair to her to not give the chance. She was a shop girl who couldn't see past that. I knew I could show her the universe and help her see how amazing she was." As I finished I could see the tears in Rose's eyes. "What about her then?" the Master asked gesturing at Katie. "I found her in ancient rome. she called out to me and when she caught up she took me to her tent and told me how she was talking to a woman who had told her to look for me. She talked to Rose through the void and I got to speak with Rose who I had left in a parallel universe. Katie brought Rose to me, when I thought I would never see her again. I had given her up and she still came back." when I finished Katie started. "You know what they say, if you love something let it go if it comes back then it was meant to be." She was still standing in the middle of the room. The Master turned and walked over to her. "What about you then? Did you ever let someone go? Did you ever hope they would come back?" She shrugged. "In a sense I let Jack go, but Other than that I never let a person go hoping they would come back." "Did you ever let something go?" He questioned her. "I let go of most of my mental shield. I kept just enough to protect my memories of him but not any more of it." "Why? Why did you let it go? Why did you keep some?" "I let it go because I couldn't keep it up. It hurt because I was so exhausted I couldn't stand ever. They physically carried me anywhere they wanted me to go. I kept enough so that if they could search my mind they wouldn't be able to find out I had been lying to them. If they knew I probably would not have left that place alive." When she was done I could tell that only Rose and I knew what she was talking about.
*******Katie*******
"Explain. fully" The Master ordered so I said, "Okay, May I please sit down? it is a long story." He nodded so I sat cross legged on the floor and began. "One summer, I was outside under the tree and some men in suits walk by. They weren't missionaries and it was way to hot to wear suits anyway. So I looked carefully and saw the tell tale bulges of guns under coats. They showed me a picture of a man, and asked if I knew him. I told them I didn't then turned back to the book I was reading. Then I felt a pain in the back of head. When I woke up I was in a cell, in the basement of a random house." I took a deep breath and shuddered. "They tortured me for almost two months and then eventually they let me go." I looked at him, waiting for acknowledgement that I was done. "Who was the man? Why did they care?" Before I could answer Jack spoke up. "Please tell me they didn't touch you. Please tell me that they didn't have Russian accents. Please" I ignored him. "The man in the picture was him." I pointed to Jack. "My guess would be he ruined their plans and they wanted to find him for revenge." The master nodded then faced Jack. "You spoke out of turn and that is against the rules because I just made a new rule. Who should I punish for your rule breaking?" Jack just stared at the floor and none of us dared speak, we didn't want to be the reason He hurt our friends. "No suggestions? Then I guess I get to choose." He looked at all of us. "I choose all of you." None of us were brave enough to speak up to object but I begged the Doctor to, With my eyes I pleaded that he would speak up because I knew what the Master wanted to do. He got the message, and began talking.
********Rose********
"But thats not fair he only spoke out once and he didn't know that it was against the rules at the time. So to be fair you should only punish one person for his outburst. It was a really short one too…" he kept rambling on and on but my attention was on Katie I had seen her look for the Doctor I knew that she had a plan but I couldn't figure out what, she was just standing there in the middle of the room. The only thing she had done was stand up. I followed her gaze and saw that she was looking at the table that held what I assumed were the instruments of torture. Then I looked at Jack he was focused on the Master as if trying to figure out how badly he was going to blow if the Doctor didn't stop talking. I realized then that he was still talking. Goodness that bloke had a gob. Then the master grabbed something from the table and pointed it towards me. "Stop talking Doctor." he said in a dark voice. The Doctor finally stopped. "There now." He lowered the device and looked at us again. "Please Master, punish me for my friends behavior. If you must punish them punish them after me, because I am weak and couldn't ever watch them in pain. Please Master." I couldn't understand what she was doing but I glanced at the Doctor and his eyes told me that all would be okay in the end.
*****Jack*****
I saw that Katie had a plan but I knew it would be something I didn't like by the way she refused to meet my eyes. "Fine, it will be as you wish." I heard the Master say and I couldn't believe my ears, He wouldn't agree to anything a prisoner suggested. "You shall inflict the punishment on your 'friends' that is punishment for you is in not?" Katie stared at the floor but nodded. "Good girl still playing the game this whole time. To start with you must kill one of the men I give you your choice." I heard a hiccup like sob come from Katie and she wouldn't meet my eyes so I could not communicate in any way. "May I say goodbye before I kill him, please?" "Sure why not." SHe stared at the ground but walked to me and stepped on a footstool where my feet rested. She pressed a kiss to my cheek and then looked me in the eye. "I love you, I love you, I love you." Then she pressed her lips to mine and I knew it was true. Past, present, and future. She loves me in all tenses. It was from one of her favorite books. All too soon the kiss was over and she stepped back. She accepted the knife that the Master held out to her. She looked at him and said "Everyone in this room shares one thing, one thing in our DNA is the same. You haven't figured it out yet and I don't think you could. Because the way it is written is different but it says the same thing. I'll let you stew on that." She stepped towards me, the knife raised and then I knew her plan. In a flash it came to me and I couldn't stop her. She stabbed in a rounded motion and the knife stopped in her chest. Close enough to her heart to end her life but far enough to cause a slow death. "Nooooooooooooo." I screamed. her eyes met mine and she said her final words. "Please don't hate me." I heard the pleading but I could do nothing as she yanked the knife free and fell to her knees.
