Note: Thanks for reviewing! Evelyn's name was Senna before, but that's a story for later on. ^^

The Last Year: An Original Story

"Into the Darkness, Part 2"

"It was Lord Niklaus! He was the one who did this to me!" Lyn cried out in sudden realization. Both her and her mother had a surprised look on their faces. Lyn's mother was lost for words, as Lord Niklaus was their employer who had barely been present at the home they tended to. His recent arrival had changed the balance of the house drastically.

"I have to go kill him! I will use my magic even if I have to! Let's go, mother – AH!" Lyn screamed in pain as she walked across the living room to reach the door. She had touched sunlight seeping in from the windows. Lyn withdrew to the wall as the curtains closed by themselves.

The two women gasped as they witnessed the magic before them. Lyn's mother walked over and held her daughter. "Calm down, Senna. You are a vampire now. I am sorry, but you cannot walk in the sunlight," the mother explained. Lyn's body shook at the word 'vampire'. "But I can still do magic. It was me who closed the curtains, you saw it, too!" Lyn replied quietly.

"I have never heard of a witch who still had her powers after becoming a vampire. But nonetheless, we know that you are proof that it is possible," the mother shared her knowledge on the matter. "Maybe our family is different," Lyn suggested. Her mother thought for a while.

"Yes, that must be it! It's because of who you come from, Senna – it has to be!" her mother cried. "Your father may be a shameful man, but that doesn't change the fact that he descends from the all-powerful magician Merlin. And as for me, I descend from a powerful witch named Arayah. The children of these two powerful lineages can only be unique and special," the mother explained. Lyn looked at the floor.

"So that means that Selene has this potential as well," Lyn concluded sadly. "Yes. But you know we gave that way of life away when your father was branded a traitor," the mother confirmed. Lyn began to sob quietly over the reminder that they were banished witches, and that her sister Selene was given away in order to be given a better life. She could still hear her younger sister's cry to not be abandoned with her new adoptive family.

"I need a resolution, Mom. Is there any way that I can walk in the sun without being harmed?" Lyn asked. The mother immediately began rummaging through the kitchen drawers. It didn't take long before she produced a grimoire hidden away under the stove. "I can't believe you kept that after all these years," Lyn chuckled lightly. "You should be grateful I did. There's a spell in here about making daylight rings," the mother responded. Within moments, the mother and daughter had worked together to create a daylight ring so Lyn could walk in the sun. After the spell was finished, Lyn put on the ring and stuck her hand in the sun rays from the windows. Lyn braced herself to flinch, but no pain came. The two witches laughed happily and hugged each other.

"Now we can move away together from this place as soon as possible," the mother whispered in her daughter's ear. "No," Lyn responded.

The two pulled apart. "What? What do you mean no?" the mother asked. Lyn quickly rummaged through the book for a spell.

"What I mean is that the sun is about to set and I'm going to get my revenge on Lord Niklaus. He has to be dealt with once and for all!" Lyn declared before running out the house. As she stepped out, the first thing she noticed was a woman standing a few feet away from Lyn's home.

"Esther…"

It was day time.

Her whole balance was off. She was somewhere it was constantly turbulent and she had a major ache in her neck. Lyn's eyes opened abruptly. A carriage? Lyn woke up looking up at the ceiling of the inside of a carriage. But whose carriage was she riding?

"Good morning, love," a familiar voice greeted her. Lyn quickly sat up and her gaze met the speaker. Her eyes got wide. "YOU!" Lyn cried in horror and disgust. Without a second thought, she lunged at him. However, Klaus was stronger than Lyn and was easily able to get a hold of her wrists. "I wouldn't do that, maid. Don't you remember how you pathetically lost last night?" Klaus asked her. Lyn relaxed a little as she recalled how she had come after Klaus at the manor but he was able to stop her. "I…-" Lyn began to say, but just put her hands on either side of her head.

"Yes, you do remember. I must admit that you caught me off guard by resurrecting yourself as a vampire. A vampire with witch powers no less! Yes, you would do well to serve me in my cause. If not, there will be consequences, Evelyn Emrys," Klaus told her with an evil grin. Lyn glared at him with pure hatred. He had managed to snap her neck last night, but she was sure not to let that happen again. "There is no way I will go anywhere with you, devil!" Lyn snapped. Klaus gave a small chuckle as if to be amused.

"Oh, you will. As you can see, we are traveling through town to view a glimpse of a wedding in progress. Would you like to know whose wedding it is?" Klaus asked Lyn. Lyn looked outside the window of the carriage and saw that they were indeed approaching a church. Her eyes went back to Klaus.

"If you do not surrender yourself to me, I will have the carriage stop at the church and massacre the lot inside. After that, we will proceed to make haste to your house where your mother is probably waiting to hear from you," Klaus explained to Lyn. Lyn looked a little confused. "Why should I care who's in the church?" she asked him, to which he gave another small chuckle.

He opened his coat and pulled out a card. A wedding invitation, actually. He proceeded to hand it over to Lyn. She carefully examined it. She immediately gasped and got teary-eyed when she realized who it was. "No…" Lyn whispered.

"One of the many wonderful things about me is that I can compel other vampires to do whatever I want. Sure, it took a little long, but I got you to spill the details about your personal life. How you feel about my brother, how you came to work for us, how your mother was able to let little Selene get adopted by a local wealthy family – the Lockwoods," Klaus continued to speak. "It's funny. Who would have thought Ellie Lockwood was adopted? Well, I guess her adoptive brother knew because now they're getting married," Klaus spoke out humorously.

Lyn was speechless and shocked by how much he knew despite not recalling telling him anything. If she felt anything, it was mostly adoration of how her sister was getting married that very day. Lyn looked at Klaus directly in the eyes. "If I go with you…you can't go after my sister and mother. And even Elijah," Lyn spoke firmly. Klaus grinned deviously.

"Your family, that I can guarantee, but my family? Nothing can be guaranteed for them. However, I will try my best to be nice to him," Klaus replied in agreement. Lyn could only nod.

"But there's one last thing, maid," Klaus began to say and captured her gaze.

"You will forget everything about your family and life here. All you know is that you are a vampire with the powers of a witch. You are my willing ally and always be so. You will forget anything and everything that has to do with Elijah and your love for him. As far as you're concerned, you do not know that I have any siblings aside from Rebekah," Klaus spoke softly as he compelled her. Lyn blinked. The compulsion was complete.

The carriage continued to drive through the rest of the town.

Lyn was silent and content when suddenly a woman appeared sitting next to Klaus. Lyn was shocked, but Klaus did not notice anyone there.

The woman opened her mouth to speak, "Such sadness. Klaus, he took everything away from you: your family, love and freedom…"
