Chapter 9

Confession

"How did you get this Miki?"

There was a lot of rustling movements and shouting in the room. Miki opened her eyes when she heard a shriek fill the air. Sitting up in her bed, she turned to see Yakama holding the prefect's armband. Oh. That's what's she flipping out about. Miki laid back down and pulled the cover over her head. "Shut up and go back to sleep. It's only five o' clock, " she yawned, feeling exhausted. Yesterday's event had drained her energy completely. For once, the fairy had nothing ridiculous or snarky to say. All she wanted to do was sleep in her bed and be left alone. One eye popped open when she felt Yakama sit on her legs. "What do you want?"

"Did you steal the prefect's armband?" Yakama asked, worried. "You know Kiryuu-kun or Yuuki-chan will kill you, right? They need it or else the fan girls would try something sneaky against them and use the "but you don't have your armband so you're not the prefect excuse" like two weeks ago."

"Kaien-sensei appointed me as a prefect yesterday."

She gasped. "NO WAY! HOW COME?"

Miki moaned in agony, shutting her eyes and curling into a ball when Yakama yanked the covers off her body. "I'm cold," she whined. "Give me back my blanket or I'll fist your butthole." The fairy automatically felt the warmth again and snuggled into the bedspread, sighing in content. Yakama's eye twitched and she jumped into bed right next to Miki, staring at the girl. The blonde sighed, before opening her eyes. "What do you want?"

Yakama grinned, finally grabbing the athlete's attention. "Tell me everything that happened."

"They found out."

"Who found out?"

"The Night class and headmaster," Miki stressed, sighing.

The brunette cocked an eyebrow. "What did they find out?"

The athlete yawned and jumped out of bed, trying to scavenge the room for her track clothes. "They found out that I'm not a human," she promptly replied, trying to shove her feet in a pair of ankle socks. She ignored the shocked expression on her best friend's face. "Hey, do you know where my running shoes are?"

"In the corner," Yakama mumbled. There was a pause. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE NOT HUMAN?"

Miki was tying her shoes before replying, "I thought you knew."

"I DIDN'T."

"But you read my diary!"

"I THOUGHT YOU WERE JOKING ABOUT BEING A FAIRY TO SCREW AROUND WITH ME," Yakama screeched, running her hands through her hair wildly.

"I WASN'T. EVERYTHING I WROTE IN THERE IS TRUE."

Yakama got Miki's bed, pulled off the sheets and looked at little hole cut into the object, before sticking her hand it. She fished out a black book and flipped to a page before reading an excerpt of it. "Dear Diary, today I got stabbed in the foot when I was trying to play hide and kill with fairy friends. P.S. I'm also a fairy." She flipped to another page. "Dear Diary, my parents told me I'm a fat fairy because I ate every fruit growing from five trees and still felt hungry." Then to the last page. "DEAR YAKAMA, I AM A FAIRY."

Miki shrugged. "I told you so." She grabbed a sweater and threw it over her shoulder. "It's so cold today. I think my nipples are going to fall off."

"It is not cold." Yakama moaned in despair before handing her best friend a cup. "Here, have some coffee I brewed. It'll wake you up since you also seem to be in a terrible mood."

"I'm not in a bad mood, nor am I in a good one. How can I be when you woke me up so this early in the morning, "Miki murmured. She checked the clock again and grunted. In its bright red numbers, it blared 5:30. Classes didn't start till eight thirty but Miki's club practice started at in an hour. She took the warm cup of coffee appreciatively and sipped it leisurely, savoring the taste. "Thanks for the drink, Ai. You're a good human."

Yakama friend rolled her eyes. "No problem. To be honest, I have no clue why I'm so awake right now." She pulled the curtains aside. The sky was still a deep shade of dark blue with a tint of orange, hinting that that the sun was going to rise soon. The entire window was covered in a thin layer of ice. "Oh wow. I guess it is cold after all. Don't run half naked this time."

"Shut it. I never run half naked unless I'm in the mood."

Yakama gave her a look.

"SO WHAT IF I'M IN THE MOOD ALL THE TIME?"

"Anyways…" Miki yawned, stretching her legs. She stood up. "I'll see you later. I'm going to go for a jog before the track team starts gathering."

"Have fun ya bish! BUT I STILL DON'T THINK YOU'RE A FAIRY."

Miki slammed the door.

THUMP.

Kaname's book snapped shut. Glancing up out of curiosity, the night class wondered what happened to disturb the pureblood. He took a quick look out the frosty window and exhaled wearily. "Watanabe-san is here."

Everyone groaned.

"Are you sure Kaname-sama? I don't smell at her," Ruka commented idly. She twirled a strand of her strawberry blonde hair, looking back and forth between him and the new student, Maria Kurenai. She frowned in disgust. There was a lot of tension in the class. She had a foreboding feeling told her that something terrible was definitely going to happen sooner or later.

"No, she's definitely here," Shiki said, yawning. Rima handed him a chocolate pocky and he took a bite out of it appreciatively.

"How can you tell?"

"Just listen extra closely."

They did.

"WHY ARE MY BERRIES SO COLD?"

They automatically stopped tuning in. "Aidou, go check up on her."

Aidou's eyes had widened in surprise at the ridiculous statement. He then became angry. "What? Why do I have to do it? I always have to help that stupid girl!"

"You're susceptible to the cold," Kain said, "and because you have obviously taken a liking to her."

"Shut up Akatsuki! I have not!" The blonde retorted, slightly offended. A small blush was apparent on his cheeks with lips upturned into a frown. His cousin snickered until the shorter vampire punched him in the rib. "You go do it."

"I hate the cold."

"So?"

"You have the power to manipulate ice," Rima said.

"That doesn't mean anything. I don't feel like seeing her stupid face today," Aidou huffed, glaring at her. He crossed his arms. Icy blue eyes shifted directly at Maria. She was sitting in the back of the classroom, smiling in a sickeningly sweet manner. Aidou refused to let her be near Kaname without him around. He was Kaname's body guard and loyal friend. "Get someone else to do it because I'm not in the mood."

"One two three—" Kaname started. One by one, there were quick replies of not it. Some went so far as to jump out the window. The Pureblood smiled. "Shiki." Aidou's eyes flashed in horror at mention of Shiki, stunned at how the situation turned out. "Make sure you send her back to her dorm."

Shiki opened his eyes from his peaceful day dreaming. He uncrossed his legs and took the feet off the desk and grudgingly removed himself from the chair. "Yes, Kaname-sama. But if she resists, know that it is not my fault."

"W-Wait! You aren't actually going to get her right?" Aidou remarked.

"Jealous?" Shiki asked curiously with a raised brow.

Aidou gave him a death glare. "No."

"Hn." The conversation ended as Shiki departed the classroom. The blonde slumped in his seat with crossed arm with a huge grimace on his face. The night class rolled their eyes. Indeed, Aidou Hanabusa was jealous.

The first thing the maroon-colored hair boy noticed when he stepped outside the building was how abnormally cold the atmosphere was. The walk to the field was far, but when he got there, he just stood in the bleachers and observed the scenery. The track field was completely covered in ice, but it wasn't enough to be labeled snow. She was running, Shiki thought with surprise. He could hear the way Miki's heart pounded against her chest, and how her feet kicked off the ground repeatedly to give her speed a boost. He noticed how her hair jumped side to side in its ponytail, never staying in place.

Miki was fast runner, he thought with amusement. With reluctance, he also had to admit she looked attractive for once. She was actually taking something seriously for once. Shiki propped his elbow up on the rail and leaned his cheek in a palm, observing her with interest. It was strange to see a concentrated expression on her face while she ran, with sweat dripping down the side of her face despite the weather.

The girl stopped sprinting after she passed the finish line and dropped on the ground. Lifting up her hand, she checked the timer. What happened next caught Shiki off guard, because Miki screamed so loud his ears pounded. What the hell. She jumped off the ground; Miki caught her breath and stretched again before she threw herself back into her sport. He cocked a brow. Strange. He knew she was athletic, but he didn't know the girl was a very competitive person. His eyes were trailing after her. She was running a bit faster this time.

"CRAP!"Miki wasn't paying attention to where she was going. Gray eyes widened in fright when realization came crashing down. Shiki had accelerated speed (like all vampires do) so he could have appeared next to her and caught the girl before she fell. Instead, he stood there and watched Miki slip over a patch of ice, skidding forward and taking a ruthless tumble upon the cold ground. "DAMMIT!"

The vampire hopped over the bleachers and lightly jogged over to her, taking his time. He bent his neck to look down at her. "Hey." There weren't any words of comfort or mocking gestures—just a simple greeting.

Miki's breathing was ragged. There were scrapes all over her arms, and the air reeked with the smell of death. She blinked, confused. "B-Bat shit? What the hell are you doing here?"

Shiki resisted groaning. The stupid nickname she gave him was back. "Kaname-sama told me to come and check up on you. It's only ten minutes after six. You shouldn't be here right now. It's too early." He clicked his tongue and bent down, examining her wounds. She had simple scratches and bruises. Surely she could recover after a few hours or days.

"Club practice is in forty minutes and I'm the prefect now. I don't see what the problem is." Miki tried sitting up but yelped, scowling at the sharp pain. "Watch it dude. It hurts."

"Perhaps if you weren't running in this condition, you wouldn't be in this predicament." Shiki wrinkled his nose in disgust. "Let's get you to the nurse's office to clean up your wounds. Your blood smells."

"Hey! Just because it smells bad, it does not mean it tastes that way either!" Miki defended, glaring at him with irritation. "Jackass."

"Hn." He stretched his legs and stood back up. "Come on, let's go."

Miki narrowed her eyes. "I can't."

"Why is that?"

"I'm injured."

"Your point?"

"I really can't walk you stupid asshole."

He snorted in amusement. "What makes you think I'm going to help you with that attitude?"

"You'll help me because I'm funny."

"No."

"My blood tastes good?"

"I highly doubt that."

At this point, the fairy was getting aggravated. "You vampires are really getting on my nerves. I mean come on. My blood doesn't even taste bad! All you guys do is smell it and automatically think it tastes like shit. You haven't even given it a chance yet!" Shiki backed up, quite shocked that she was genuinely angry for once. She was acting strange today. Her face fell at his reaction.

"Watanabe-san, are you okay?"

"Just a little bit of cuts," she grumbled. "It'll heal eventually."

"I wasn't talking about that, Watanabe-san."

Miki lifted her head bit by bit. Their eyes connected and a shiver ran down her back. "It's none of your business," is what she would usually say. Instead, she blurted out loudly, "I just want to be accepted…I don't want to be treated like an outcast anymore. I just want to feel like I belong somewhere. I-I know it's stupid! But when I was a kid, my race rejected me because I was too war-like for them. You guys being vampire and all make me feel terrible because of the stench my blood produces."

"What would you like me to do about it?"

She realized he really could not do anything about her situation even if she complained. Reluctantly, Miki turned her head away from him. "Sorry." Shiki bit back a smile. Stupid girl. Crouching back down, he picked her up and then slung her over his shoulders like a sack of potato. "OW! CAN'T YOU BE GENTLER?"

"Sorry," He replied teasingly, albeit still in an emotionless tone.

Embarrassment flooded her body and her face flushed with red. "Shut up!"

"Hn."

Watanabe Miki wasn't too bad, Shiki decided.

At the smell of fresh blood the vampires became sat up straight, feeling slightly edgy until the deathly stench wafted into the classroom. "Watanabe!" Aidou shouted. He jumped out of his chair and ran out the classroom, ignoring Kaname's calls. He began approaching the dark figure in the hallway hurriedly until he saw Miki slung across Shiki's shoulders, asleep. "What's going on?" Aidou asked, wrinkling his nose. He crept around Miki's body and examined the fresh wounds on her body. He directed a glare at Shiki. "What did you do to her?"

Shiki felt a hint of annoyance rise in him. Honestly, he was getting sick of this tirade. Aidou constantly acted arrogant and pompous around the red head, just because he was overprotective of the blonde girl. "She tripped and injured herself on the track field." There was nothing left to add to the statement. The tension between them was thick. "Aren't you supposed to be watching over Kaname-sama?"

Aidou twitched, feeling a stab at his pride. "I wanted to check up on Watanabe. We all smelled her blood."

"I have everything under control," he said briefly.

"Doesn't seem like it," Aidou snapped irately.

"Would you like to bring her to the nurse's office then?"

"At least I would do a better job at escorting her to a place safely than you," he mumbled.

"I take that as a yes?" Shiki yawned, rolling his eyes.

The blonde sneered, "Yes."

"Take her." He carefully lifted the unconscious girl off his shoulder and handed her to Aidou. (Thank goodness vampires were blessed with magic to knock people unconscious. She was getting out of hand.) On his way back to the classroom, Shiki nonchalantly commented, "Have fun with your girlfriend."

Aidou accidentally dropped Miki in shock.

"OW!" Miki jolted awake. Gray met blue. It took a moment for her to register what had happened and the predicament she was in. Her expression went from surprise to angry. She hopped off the ground and jabbed him in the chest with a finger. "HEY YOU BUTTHOLE. WHY DID YOU DROP ME?"

"It was an accident!" he exclaimed, eyes widening. She was leaning far too close for his liking, backing him up against the wall. Aidou was beginning to feel nauseous. He covered his nose. "Can you move back a bit? You stink." A hurt expression flashed across her face. Aidou unexpectedly felt guilty for hurting Miki and fumbled with his words to apologize before she cut him off.

"Sorry. I'll go."

"Huh?" Aidou furrowed his eyebrows, deep lines of wrinkles appearing on his forehead. He grabbed her wrist before she could leave him. Her skin felt smooth, he noticed, before spotting the blood that was starting to drip down her arm. Fairies didn't heal as quickly as vampires. Pushing his pride away, Aidou muttered awkwardly, "I apologize if I hurt your feelings."

Miki was absolutely stunned with his sudden actions. "A-A-Apology accepted!" She yanked her arm away from him, a rosy color dusting her cheek. She was pertinently disturbed, oblivious to the way he curiously licked the blood from her arm that got on his fingertips. "W-What the hell are you even talking about anyways? As if I needed to hear your apo—!" The air was knocked out of her lungs when Aidou slammed her against the wall. Miki yelped in pain.

The aristocrat leaned closer and brushed his fingers against her cheek. His eyes were switching back and forth from red and blue and then consistently stayed at the color of blood red. "You look nice today," he murmured dazedly. "You blood tastes marvelous too." His tongue trailed against her neck.

She pounded his chest but to no avail. "A-Ah! Stop it Aidou! Not here!" Not here? Was she insane? The fairy didn't know why she would say anything ridiculous. Miki grimaced. Would she be accepted if he finally tasted her blood? The way he was staring at her right now didn't exactly terrify her. In fact…she even…dare she say it, enjoyed the way he was behaving right now. He wanted her. He could have wanted her for the wrong reasons but it was okay, right? She would be accepted.

"We can go back to the locker room," Miki suggested lowly, eyes darting sideways to check for other students. Aidou slowly began to snap back into reality when she began pulling him closer to her. She was agreeing to this? Watanabe Miki was finally showing him some attention in a romantic sense. "We can't do something like this right here—"

"Shut up." Aidou tilted her chin up and pressed his chapped lips against her. Her hands flew up to grab hold of his blazer for support while he ran his fingers through her fading blonde hair. In his mind, he couldn't help but wonder why she submitted to his vigorous kisses so easily. However the smell of her, despite the stench, had become intoxicating to him. Her lips fit perfectly against his. The aristocrat would be damned if he let Shiki take her away from him. Aidou pulled away and leaned against her, lips touching her smooth forehead.

"W-What the hell was that about?"

He heard the bewildered tone in her voice. She didn't sound disgusted by his actions or angry. Miki hadn't punched him in the face either. That was a good sign. Aidou's lips twitched into a smile. He finally had her attention. "Date me."

Her jaw dropped. "WHAT?"

"Date me," he reiterated.

"NO FUCKING WAY."

Aidou's eye twitched. "Why not?"

"B-Because…I uhh…I l-like someone else," she grumbled embarrassedly.

Aidou's heart ached slightly, but not too much. He knew that was coming. Instead, he crossed his arms and arrogantly retorted, "I know you have feelings for Shiki. But you didn't mind letting me kiss you if you didn't have some sort of feelings towards me too, right? So go out with me." Miki looked like a ripe tomato.

"Yeah but you're still an asshole!"

"But you still have feelings for me!"

"Shut your mouth gay boy!"

"You let this "gay boy" kiss you!" They were staring at each other angrily, grinding their teeth together simultaneously. Abruptly Aidou exclaimed, "I refuse to give up on you!"

"….What?"

"Urgh!" Aidou scratched the back of his neck, discomforted by the laughable state of affairs. "Listen, Watanabe. You're stupid, annoying, whiney, manipulative, greedy, obese, deviant—"

"Are you only going to continue insulting me? Because this is not winning me over," Miki snapped, annoyed.

"I'M GETTING THERE!" He took a deep breath before continuing slowly. "But you're a strong person. You're there when your closest friends need you the most. You know how to make the best out of the worst situation. It's cute that you're more athletic than you are pretty. It's fine that you're not the prettiest girl at school because your terrible sense of humor and puns make up for that. Watanabe, you're very charismatic and even manage to brighten up the Night Class' mood. For that, I like you. I like you more than you can ever imagine. I like you from your smell of your shitty blood to the way you smile when you think you've accomplished something clever."

Miki's lips formed the shape of an 'o' and she her eyes were wide as an owl.

Aidou hugged her, wrapping his arms around her tightly. "Date me." He was sacrificing his pride right now. He could only hope she said yes.

"I…" She saw the hopeful look in his eyes and felt crushed by it. She wanted to give him the chance. She wanted to say yes. Instead the next words that flowed out of her mouth was, "I'm sorry." Miki felt his body tense against her before he pushed her away from him.

"I see." His face hardened into a blank expression but she felt the anger radiate from him. "I'll take my leave then."

"W-Wait, just hear me out first!" Miki explained, grabbing his blazer out of panic. "I know you like me! A-And…I guess you can say I kinda l-like you too…sorta. But I don't want to date you knowing that I also like someone else! It's all or nothing for me! I don't want to go into a relationship and start off half assed. So if you really like me, then you would win me over….." She added hesitantly in a squeak, "Wouldn't you?"

There was a minute of stillness and then a deep rich laughter filled the silent hallways. As Aidou strode away from her, he only glanced back at her for a second with a look of disinterest.

"You're not worth my time."

Me: Sorry guys, I know it's not the best chapter. But it's the only thing I can really do. I know it's personal, but I've been trying to get out of depression and I thought I would finally write another chapter to help me get out of it. I hope you guys weren't too disappointed. Please review.
