A/N: Thanks for all the awesome reviews, you are all so great and so, so nice 3
Monday morning at breakfast the whole castle seemed to only be able to talk about one thing. Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy were dating. Supposedly. Whether or not the rumor was true was the source of debate for almost all students that morning. Numerous sources could cite that both Albus and Scorpius had snuck out of their dormitories late on Valentine's day, and that the boys had been inseparable ever since, spending all weekend together. They treated one another differently as well, holding hands, and had even been seen snogging in the hallways.
Girls who had previously had romantic encounters with Malfoy argued that he wasn't the relationship type, and that there wasn't a romantic bone in his whole body. They all seriously doubted that he would ever ask someone out, and on Valentine's day especially, it just wasn't his style. Other students also doubted that Albus would be caught dead sneaking out after curfew or bunking in the Slytherin dorms.
Of course, those close to either boy knew the truth, but they were surprisingly difficult to get information out of. Albus' family and friends told most students to "mind their own business" when asked. Scorpius' crew would usually just tell an even larger rumor, like that Albus was actually a vampire and had cursed Scorpius into being his blood source, until the students asking got so frustrated that they gave up. One brave (and nosey) student from Ravenclaw had actually approached Albus and asked him outright if he was dating Scorpius. Albus had simply blushed, giggled and walked away, which left the girl with more questions than answers. Despite all the doubts and conjecture, one thing was certain, Albus and Scorpius were together, officially or not. Which had another, much bigger question on everyone's mind. Why?
When Albus walked into ancient runes Monday afternoon he was exhausted. He sunk down into his normal seat next to Sullivan and tried to ignore the whispers and stares from his other classmates.
"Hello Albus." The Slytherin greeted him, not looking up from the book he was reading.
"Ugh." Albus greeted in reply.
"Long day?" Sullivan asked, still reading.
"You have no idea." Albus grumbled.
Albus had no idea how information spread around the castle the way it did, but somehow by Friday night there were already whispers about his relationship with Scorpius, despite Albus having told no one about it. He did leave the dormitories after curfew on Thursday, but had been wearing his cloak and he didn't really think anyone had noticed him leave. Friday night he was angrily bombarded by Rosie and Lily and James and even Drew all asking the same question. "Are you really dating Scorpius Malfoy?"
He answered them all truthfully but the reactions from each couldn't have been more different.
Rosie was very solemn, and Albus could tell that she disapproved, but couldn't say anything. After all she had just recently starting dating Jeremy again, and he wasn't exactly without flaws. She had just told him to be careful. Albus had been pretty shook up by her reaction. She hadn't even told him that she was happy for him. Albus didn't know what he would do if he couldn't go to Rosie to talk about Scorpius. The blond was now a huge part of Albus' life, and if Rosie ignored that then the two of them would drift even further apart.
Lily of course had been delighted, she wanted every detail, and she practically screamed when Albus told her about Scorpius' confession. "That is the most romantic thing I have ever heard, he is so in love with you." Albus had to calm his sister down before she began planning his wedding, but he couldn't deny that her reaction had made him happy. At least someone seemed to be on his side.
James was furious, which Albus had expected, of course his brother didn't want him anywhere near the Slytherin. James lectured him about how Scorpius was just using him, and how he was being an idiot. In reality, Albus thought that James just didn't like the publicity that Albus was getting. James was used to being the center of attention, and now he had to share the spotlight with his little brother.
Drew just seemed amused. "You better not relocate to the Slytherin dorm full-time." He had warned, "I can't handle living with those arseholes full time without you there."
Albus had been so caught up in his thoughts that he didn't notice that the lecture had already started. He glanced around and noticed everyone scribbling down notes furiously. He then glanced down at his own blank page and cursed silently. He quickly grabbed a quill and tried to follow along with what his professor was saying.
"Are you going to come by tonight?" Sullivan asked him as they were packing up at the end of class. "We're having another meeting for Operescahog."
Albus couldn't help but laugh. There had already been a couple "meetings" about the plan to apparate out of Hogwarts, but the word meeting was a vast mischaracterization of what actually happened. Usually Sullivan would just fill the group in on what he had found out, and they would all listen intently for 2 or 3 minutes, before losing focus, and dissenting into whatever topics caught their interest instead. Albus began to discover that Sullivan was going to be the one to actually make Operescahog happen, the rest were just along for the ride.
Albus had finally agreed over the weekend to help in the planning, and only the planning, of the mission. While he didn't approve of the idea, and was fairly convinced that his friends were all going to get splinched, he was fascinated by the complex magic that Sullivan was proposing. There was a seal, and a potion involved, and then of course the actual apparation. Sullivan explained it simply enough. They were going to set up a seal out in the woods, which would work as a sort of hole in the seal around Hogwarts, and allow anyone standing inside of the seal to apparate in and out. Then the potion that they took would be magically linked to the seal, and help anchor them to that spot, so that once they had left Hogwarts they would have an easier time apparating back in. "Without the potion" Sullivan had explained to them, "Apparating back into the seal would be as improbable as landing a broom on a sickle." Albus wasn't sure if Sullivan had ever tried landing a broom, but he understood the point of the metaphor. Apparating into a single spot in the hundreds of acres of the Forbidden Forest would not end well. Sullivan and Albus both had some experience in magical seals and designing them because of their ancient runes class. Sullivan had found a book at the library that made it sound simple enough. Apparently portal seals were pretty standard. According to the book things could get hairy if you tried to open a portal to another dimension, but opening a portal to outside of Hogwarts should be easy enough. The potion was something that Sullivan needed help with however, which was when he dragged Albus into the equation. Sullivan took OWL potions, just like Albus, but it was never an interest of his, and he had trouble reading through the dense books. Albus was more than happy to help, he found it all fascinating. He had asked his potions professor about anchoring potions and she had been more than happy to show him some different recipes, assuming of course that he was just interested in the theory. No one ever assumed that Albus Potter was ever up to anything, which worked to his advantage in this case.
Albus didn't hesitate before telling Sullivan that he would definitely be there.
"Great." Sullivan smiled, "Bring your cloak."
Albus frowned. "Why?"
"You'll see." He answered cryptically before walking out of the classroom.
After class Albus went back to the Gryffindor dorms, and after putting down his school bags snuck into the seventh year boys dorm, hoping to grab the cloak before James got back from class. When he peaked into the room he didn't see anyone, so he went inside, and quietly closed the door behind him.
"What are you doing?" Said a voice from behind him.
Albus turned and cursed, as he saw his brother, coming out of the bathroom.
"Can I borrow the cloak?" He asked. There was no sense pretending at this point, James had already guessed why he was here. It's not as if the cloak belonged to James. Their father had given it to all of them to use, as long as they didn't tell their mother.
"Why?" James glared, "You going on a date with your boyfriend?"
Albus rolled his eyes. "I don't have to tell you why. It's not your cloak." Albus said, walking towards James' trunk.
"It was." James observed. "It was pretty much exclusively my cloak until this year, when you started being a complete idiot."
Albus rolled his eyes at his brother, and moved toward his trunk, opening it and starting to search for the cloak.
"Oi!" James shouted, "Stop going through my stuff." He walked over and slammed the trunk closed, almost slamming Albus' fingers in the process. "It's not in there anyways." He said.
"So, what, are you hiding it from me now?" Albus glared at his brother.
"Not hiding." James shrugged, "I just want to know when you are using it. Don't want you stealing it like you did on Thursday."
Albus let out a groan in exasperation. "Once again, it isn't yours, so I can't technically steal it, because we all share it. And it's none of your business when I use it."
"Well if you don't like this set-up why don't you just tell dad on me." James challenged his brother.
"I wouldn't have to tell dad if you weren't actually like such a prick!" Albus shot back.
"But you do have to tell dad." James insisted. Suddenly Albus realized they were no longer talking about cloaks.
"Shove off." He growled. "Just give me the damn cloak and stop bugging me."
"How about this," James proposed, "You tell mom and dad that you're gay for Malfoy and then I will let you use the cloak as often as you want."
Albus just glared up at his brother.
"I'm serious Al." James' voice grew quiet, "When are you going to tell them? The whole school knows by now. At this rate, they are going to hear it from Longbottom."
"None of your damn business James." Albus said, turning around and walking out of the room. "And keep the damn cloak, I don't want it." He called out after him. Then he ran back to his dorm and pulled the drapes around his bed and buried his head in his pillows.
Albus just wanted to shut the outside world out for a while. His relationship with Scorpius seemed so carefree when it was just the two of them, but once you added in every other person in his life it became so complicated. Everyone had an opinion and advice and warnings. Albus didn't want to hear any of it. He shoved his hands under his pillow to pull it closer to his face. His hands rustled something under the pillow. Confused, Albus pull the source of the rustling out from under the pillow. It was a letter. Albus had to pull open the curtains around his bed a crack to have enough light to read it. Teddy. Albus suddenly remembered James handing him a letter from Teddy last week. He had brought it back to his room and left it on the bed, and then in the excitement of the weekend, forgotten to read it. Somehow it had ended up under his pillow. Albus smiled, Teddy always knew how to cheer him up. He ripped open the envelope and pulled out the letter.
Hey Albus,
Just checking in. Things here are great. Victoire and her mother are getting very excited about the wedding. I try not to interfere too much with their planning. Who knew there were so many things to do when you got married! So far the only task I have been assigned is to pick groomsmen. I immediately thought of you, of course. Victoire is angry with me because she said I am supposed to ask you in some special way, but I don't think that seems like us. How about I treat you to a butterbeer next time you have a weekend in Hogsmeade? That should be in a few weeks right? Let me know.
I feel like I haven't seen you in ages. Your dad says you have an earring? I also heard about the howler. I hope you are holding up alright, I bet Ginny can write a nasty one. Last time we spoke things were going well with you and your… friend. Has anything changed? We need to keep in better touch. Now if only we could get these damn birds to cooperate.
I'll see you in a few weeks then, but make sure to write me back before that. Send Aurora and Mirzam if you have to. Victoire sends all her love, oh and she would also like to know your preference for the wedding, black dress robes or lilac. And yes, apparently that is a serious question.
Love,
Teddy
Albus smiled as he read the letter, picturing Victoire and Fluer talking wedding nonstop and Teddy trying to stay out of their way. He couldn't believe that he hadn't thought to tell Teddy about him and Scorpius. But to be fair, he was already keeping his relationship from most everyone in his family, so Teddy had unfortunately fallen into that category. Albus, despite his exhaustion from the day, got up and grabbed a quill and parchment to write back to his god brother.
However, once Albus tried to decide what to actually write his brain went completely blank. "Scorpius and I are dating." He wrote it down and immediately crossed it out. There was no way he could tell Teddy this through a letter, how would he be able to explain it? About Valentine's day and everything. Albus decided it would have to wait until they were together in person. After all the next Hogsmeade trip was only 3 weeks away, which wasn't very long at all to wait. So Albus wrote a very short and cryptic letter back to his cousin, explaining that he had a lot to tell him, but that he would much rather do it in person. He told Teddy to meet him in the 3 Broomsticks for lunch on the next Hogsmeade visiting day. He added at the bottom that he would wear lilac robes to the wedding only if James had to as well, grinning just at the thought of it.
Albus then tied up the letter, and went to deliver it to the owlry before dinner.
It was a peculiar feeling for Scorpius, the way that his heart started doing cartwheels every time that he saw Albus. He was sitting in the Slytherin common room with the rest of his friends, and the Gryffindor simply walked up and sat down next to him, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. They had only been dating four days, but Scorpius felt like it had been much longer than that. He had always hated the thought of relationships because we never wanted to belong to someone, but he had never considered how amazing it would feel to know someone else belonged to you. That out of everyone in the world, they were yours. They picked you, they wanted you.
He was aware of all of his friends staring at them, with varied looks of amusement. He put his arm around Albus and pulled him in close.
"Hi." Albus said softly, smiling up at him.
"I missed you." Scorpius replied, pretending to pout. This made Albus laugh.
"We spent all weekend together," He chided, "You're being too selfish."
"No, you're being selfish. I didn't see you all day" Scorpius teased, "Choosing class over me. How could you?"
"Well maybe I can make it up to you somehow." Albus said with a smirk.
"I can think of a few ways." Scorpius whispered, leaning in closer.
"Ahem!" A loud voice interrupted them.
"What?" Scorpius glared over at Stephanie, who had been the source of the disturbance.
"Can we focus Scor? We actually have things to accomplish tonight." She tapped her wrist as if to indicate the time, but she wasn't wearing a watch.
Scorpius wanted to tell her to shove off. He wanted to drag Albus back to his bed and undress him slowly and spend the rest of the night with their bodies intertwined. But he knew Stephanie was right, so he reluctantly pulled away from Albus.
"Well let's get on with it." He sighed.
Sullivan looked confusedly at Albus, "Where's the cloak?" He asked. Scorpius had been preoccupied when Albus walked in, but he now noticed that Albus was empty handed. He felt his boyfriend tense up next to him.
"Long story short, my brother is a prat, so no cloak tonight."
Scorpius could tell that Albus felt bad, so he quickly replied. "Don't worry about it. We have never used a cloak in the past, we don't need it." The rest of his friends were quick to reassure Albus as well.
"But we are leaving the castle?' Albus asked, "Sullivan refused to tell me what we were doing."
Sullivan chuckled, "Well I never know what I will say that will finally scare you away."
"At this point, nothing." Albus responded.
"Well in that case," Sullivan leaned into the circle and the rest of his friends followed suit. "Tonight we are all going to learn how to apparate."
Scorpius and Albus had gone back to the sixth year boy's dorm so that Albus could borrow a coat to wear. Digging through his trunk he pulled out his knit Slytherin scarf as well.
"I want that too." Albus said, grabbing it out of his hand, and wrapping it around his slim neck. "How do I look?" He asked grinning. "Like a real Slytherin?"
Scorpius smiled, "You look great." He grabbed Albus and pulled him in for a kiss. Albus leaned into him and grumbled when Scorpius broke away.
"No complaining, come on, everyone is waiting for us."
"Let's just stay here." Albus smiled sweetly, pulling Scorpius back over to the bed. "I had a stressful day, maybe you can relieve it."
Scorpius wanted nothing more than to follow the Gryffindor to his bed, but his worry won out. "Why, what happened? Is everything ok?"
Albus just sighed, "I don't want to talk about it. I also don't want to go to the woods and watch you get splinched."
Scorpius saw that there was real concern on Albus' face so he pulled the boy in again. "I won't get splinched, everything will be fine Al." But Albus just pushed him away frustrated.
"You don't know that." He said sternly. "Something could go wrong. Apparation is really hard Scor. There's no way you'll be able to do it on the first try."
"Don't worry." Scorpius reassured him, "Sullivan has some crazy plan to help us work our way up to it." Albus still didn't look reassured. "Listen," Scorpius said, "I won't make you come. But I do want you there. I don't want to do this without you."
Albus sighed again. "Fine." He replied. "But I am not taking you to hospital wing and getting detention if you start losing fingers and toes."
"Deal," Scorpius grinned.
Suddenly the door burst open, and Jaysen was on the other side of it. "Come on you guys. Or we are leaving without you."
Scorpius grabbed Albus' hand, "Come on, let's go."
Albus had to admit that the system Sullivan had set up was very sophisticated. He had drawn two seals on the ground near the entrance to the woods. It was close enough to the castle that the moonlight was still bright enough to see by through the trees, but far enough away that no one would be able to spot them.
"All you have to do is hop from one seal to another" Sullivan explained, "Without the potion, there's nothing pulling you towards the seal, but just stare at that spot." He pointed at the seal farthest from where they were all standing. "Because these seals are the only place you can apparate to inside Hogwarts, theoretically, there isn't anywhere else you should be able to go."
"Theoretically." Albus scoffed. His arms were crossed and he was standing off to the side. He couldn't believe that they were all willing to try something so stupid.
Sullivan and everyone else ignored him, although Scorpius did send him a pleading look as if to say, "please shut up".
"According to the textbooks," Sullivan continued, "There are 3 D's essential to apparation. Determination, destination, and deliberation. Destination is easy enough," He pointed to the far seal, "determination is better described as clearing your mind of everything that isn't the task at hand. And deliberation, well that means that you have think carefully about what you are doing and why. So I think the best way to start would be for all of us to be silent. To carefully think about why we are doing this, to focus at the task at hand, and then when you are ready, step into the seal and give it a go."
Albus felt like complaining again, because Sullivan made it sound too easy, but thought better of it. Everyone else had nodded at Sullivan carefully. The group had gone completely silent, everyone had their eyes closed, their heads down. Albus had never seen them ever take anything this seriously. He was amazed. After a couple of minutes Sullivan opened his eyes and moved into the seal, everyone else watched as he stepped into the circle. Sullivan took a deep breath, closed his eyes tight and- POP. There was a loud popping noise, and there was Sullivan, twenty feet away in the other seal.
Everyone cheered loudly and Sullivan smiled, proud of himself. He tried to walk, but looked woozy.
"I think I need to sit down." He said.
"How was it?" Andrew asked.
"Like being squished on a very crowded train that started going a million kilometers an hour." He said, but with a smile.
Albus was amazed. Sullivan had done it, like it was nothing.
Andrew seemed eager to go next. He stepped into the seal and stood there for a good five minutes without anything happening.
"You're too excited." Sullivan told him. "Remember, you have to be deliberate. Be calm, and sure of yourself."
Andrew stepped out to collect himself. Finally he stepped back in and after a few moments there was another loud POP, almost like a crack this time, and then he was in the other seal. Again there was cheering, but Andrew ran into the trees and vomited, which reduced the excitement a little.
Albus was stunned, Sullivan's success made sense. He had been studying apparation for weeks. But Albus had always assumed that Andy was more brawn than brains. Yet here he was, performing high level magic with almost no preparation.
Stephanie went next, and again apparated to the other seal with no problems. Tess tried after, but nothing happened. After a few minutes she stepped out of the seal, and Scorpius stepped forward.
Albus' heart leap into his throat. Despite seeing three people already come through unscathed Albus was sure that Scorpius was going to be decapitated. He held his breath as Scorpius stepped into the seal, but he didn't have to hold it long before there was a loud pop, the loudest one yet, and the blond was safe in the other seal. This time Albus joined in the cheering. Scorpius looked a little nauseous, but was missing no body parts as far as Albus could see.
Wendy went up, her usually smiling face looking very serious. A few moments later she also appeared in the second seal. She too, ran into the trees to vomit.
Tess stepped back into the seal next, looking more determined than before. Albus worried that she wasn't calm enough, but in under a minute she had successfully apparated to the other side.
Finally, Jaysen stepped forward. He hadn't spoken a word in almost half an hour, which was uncharacteristic. He took a deep breath and stepped into the seal. He stood there for well over a minute, but finally he too made a loud pop and appeared on the other seal. He received the loudest cheer of all. Everyone got up and hugged him as they all congratulated each other. Albus suddenly realized that he was standing alone; everyone who had apparated to the second seal had taken a seat over next to it, and he was the only one left by the first seal.
He noticed Scorpius looking at him, and he knew what the blond was thinking.
"Well?" Scorpius called over to him. "Are you gonna try it or not."
Albus couldn't deny that he wanted to. After seeing everyone else do it, with no prior training, why couldn't he? But no, this was stupid. This was really stupid. If something happened he would have no one to blame but himself.
"Come on Al, you can do it!" Stephanie cheered. Everyone else was cheering him on too. He looked over at the group of them, his friends. They were all there for him, and he suddenly didn't feel as afraid anymore. He nodded, and they all went silent again. He took a minute to collect himself and then he walked into the seal. He stared at the second seal and tried to focus on getting there, no, being there. Not arriving at that space, but simply existing in that space, he took a deep breath and once his lungs were full he felt a strange pull. It started in his fingertips and toes and then moved towards the center of his body, until all he could feel was pressure. A tight squeezing all over like he was trapped in Devil's Snare. Then, just as suddenly, release. He had the wind knocked out of him, and he doubled over, gasping for breath, but all he could hear was the cheering of his friends. He looked over at them, a look of pure disbelief on his face.
"I did it?" He shouted.
Scorpius ran over and kissed him. "You did it!" He replied, "I knew you could do it!"
They all cheered excitedly, and laughed at all of the wizards who claimed it was too hard. Their celebrations only lasted a few more minutes before Sullivan made them all calm back down and apparate back to the first seal. They kept the same order as before, and this time everyone accomplished it on the first try. Albus even got his breathing right, so that he didn't feel like he had been punched in the gut. Once Albus was back at the first seal there was more celebrating. Sullivan used a charm to hide the seals from anyone who might pass by and then they all started heading back to the castle.
Albus and Scorpius deliberately lingered behind the rest of the group, hand in hand, talking softly to one other.
"I can't believe that just happened." Albus sighed, still shaking his head in disbelief.
"You did amazing." Scorpius told him, leaning in to kiss him on the forehead.
"You are more amazing." Albus said, "You guys weren't afraid at all. I would have never have done it unless you all were there."
Scorpius laughed, "You are always underestimating yourself Al. I'm not sure why. And besides, you helped me a lot too. I was so afraid of embarrassing myself in front of you." Scorpius laughed again, at himself this time. "You helped my determination a lot."
"I wish I could tell Rosie, or Lily. Or rub it in James' face." Albus grinned. "You know he took the apparation test right before Christmas and couldn't do it. There's another test in May that he is hoping to pass."
"Maybe you could give him some pointers." Scorpius said smiling. Albus laughed again. "But seriously Al, you don't have to keep this from Lily or Rosie. You can tell them if you want to."
Albus shook his head sternly. "No. They wouldn't understand. I mean, you saw me tonight. I didn't even understand until I saw it with my own eyes. I would have never thought it was possible, but here you all are."
"Not quite the idiots everyone thinks we are." Scorpius observed with a chuckle.
"I've never thought you were an idiot." Albus said softly. Scorpius stopped walking and pulled Albus in for another kiss. Albus felt himself getting lifted and carried away, like he usually did when he was kissing Scorpius. The two snogged for a while up against a tree, before they finally broke apart. The rest of the group was long gone.
"So, do you still want to come back down the dungeons with me?" Scorpius asked quietly. Albus felt his whole body react to the offer.
"Yes." He said quietly. Scorpius smiled, and pulled his hand towards the castle. "But I can't." Albus continued. "I have class in the morning." Scorpius' smile fell and he groaned.
"Why does class even matter?" He asked, "You just apparated! You don't need to go to class tomorrow, take the day off."
"I can't." Albus sighed. "But please believe me when I say I really, really want to."
"When am I going to see you again?" Scorpius asked, sounding miserable.
"Tomorrow at breakfast." Albus assured him.
"No, I mean, when can I be with you again." He asked, pulling Albus' body up against his, for emphasis.
"Well, I have a break tomorrow afternoon, for a couple hours." He had been planning to spend that time catching up on some assignments that he had neglected over the weekend, but he told himself that he would have plenty of time for them later.
Scorpius brightened, and the two continued walking back to the castle. Once they got inside Albus became aware of how visible they were. He wished he had the invisibility cloak, and silently cursed James again for not giving it to him. Once they reached the staircase Albus tried to kiss Scorpius goodbye.
"I'm going to walk you back to your dorm." Scorpius assured him.
"I can't let you!" Albus argued. If Scorpius had to walk all the way up the Gryffindor tower and then all the way back down to the dungeons he had an even larger chance of getting caught. Finally, Scorpius agreed to let Albus go, and they said their goodbyes.
Albus continued to climb the stairs alone. He felt more nervous now than he had apparating. At one point he thought he heard something so he ducked behind a suit of armor, but no one appeared, and he continued walking. Going from the baths or the kitchens to the Gryffindor common room was one thing, there were lots of back hallways and sneaky staircases you could take, but going from the main entrance to the common room was a long walk, and it was the most patrolled part of the castle. Albus couldn't help thinking about what would happen if he got caught. He had just told his parents he would behave. They would lose their minds if not two weeks later he was caught out of bed.
Thankfully he made it back to the common room without running into anyone. Once he stepped through the portrait hole however, he saw someone sitting in the dark in a corner of the common room. The minute he entered the room the figure stood up and strode towards him. As the person got closer Albus realized it was his brother.
"What are you, spying on me now?" Albus whispered tersely.
"Where were you?" James demanded, also whispering.
"None of your business." Albus shot back.
James looked furious. "I'm head boy, I could give you detention you know."
Albus glared back at his brother, testing him, "Go ahead then."
"Albus, I swear to Merlin, if you do this again I will give you detention." James had risen above a whisper, but it was still too quiet for anyone else to have heard.
Albus ignored his brother's threats and walked past him. He heard James sigh angrily, but he couldn't bring himself to care. James only ever acted for his own self-interest. He would never actually give Albus detention, because he wanted people to think he was a cool head boy, and cool head boys didn't give detention to their own brothers.
Albus climbed into bed with a grin on his face, trying to imagine James' reaction if he had told his brother that he had been in the woods apparating.
Fun fact, I wrote this whole chapter while listening exclusively to the Moana soundtrack.
