Ch 9 Draw Your Swords- Angus & Julia Stone
They were speeding like there was no tomorrow. Buildings rushed by in a blur. Lights came and went within a blink of an eye. There was a sense of urgency that dangled in the air. Everyone was on edge. Rachel still didn't understand what was going on. She was completely clueless. No one bothered to explain and she felt too embarrassed to ask. Beside her, Brittany was glued to her phone, texting someone like crazy. Puck swerved to the right and everyone leaned in the opposite direction. Blaine was restlessly tapping his fingers against the window. Up in the front seat Quinn was rapidly tapping her foot, eyeing the road with a tight face.
"I need someone to call Sam. Tell him to get his ass down there now!" Puck spoke out with a heavy and aggravated tone.
"I already did that. We just need to get down there now." Quinn fired back.
Brittany shifted in her seat and leaned forward to Quinn and Puck. "Robert's about to call the cops. Things are getting out of hand over there." Brittany added in.
"Like hell he is! This time, it's my turn." Quinn shouted. "Step on it!" she announced just as her hands slammed into the console.
Puck shoved his foot into the gas pedal. The car lurched forward. Rachel hung on tight to her side of the door. Something really serious must have happened Rachel gathered. And whatever it was, clearly wasn't any good. Something bad was about to happen. Everyone's emotions were heightened. This could only end in a number of options. Rachel released a silent prayer that they would all make it out safely.
Puck pulled up to the back of a building. Everyone quickly got out. Brittany and Quinn practically ran into the building. When Rachel entered the building she was standing in some type of back room. It looked like a dressing room of some sort. There were a few mirrors that were lined up against the wall. Next to them were racks of clothing. What is this place? Her thoughts were drawn to a halt when she spotted an older gentleman in the middle of the room, a bat glued to his hand. On the other side of the room Quinn and Brittany hovered over a small dark green leather couch. On it was a young girl who looked like she was passed out and not in a good way. Her face was pale like a ghost. Her lips were hard and chapped. Her hair was matted to her forehead with sweat. In a freaky kind of way she almost looked dead. Rachel shivered at the thought. Quinn bent down over the girl. Her eyes were wide with concern and worry.
"Marley! Sweety! Come on wake up! Wake up!" Quinn spoke.
The girl was unmoving. Quinn placed a few fingers to her neck. Her pulse was slow. In fact, it was barely there. Panic began sweeping inside the blonde. Her heart was racing.
"We need to get her to a hospital NOWW!" Quinn yelled out.
From the other side of the room a loud chuckle rang out. In the corner was a guy with a shaved head. He was wearing a black leather jacket that drooped down past his knees. His clothes looked ratty and he stank of cheap booze and cigarettes. There was a grin etched onto his ugly tattooed face. "You guys are so over dramatic. She's fine." The guy responded.
The older gentleman with the bat pointed the end at the younger man. His grey eyes were gleaming with anger. "I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM MY GIRLS!" he spoke with an edgy tone.
The smug guy shook his shoulders casually. "She came to me. It's not my fault she can't handle it. I just provide the goods if you know what I mean." He starts laughing. "They always come back."
"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Puck shouted as he made a lunge for the guy.
Blaine jumped in and held the taller boy back. "Don't man. It's not worth it. You're already on probation."
"Get him out of here." The older gentleman pointed at Puck.
Blaine grabbed onto Puck and drew him to the door. Suddenly, a fist came flying out and was rammed into the tattooed guy's face. A second later short blonde hair lunged for the guy. She threw another fist into his face, putting all her force behind it. Then she quickly grabbed onto the back of his head and smashed it into the wall. Rachel drew backwards. Her face was in a state of pure horror as she witnessed the terrifying scene.
Puck escaped from Blaine's grasp and aimed for the blonde. He quickly grabbed the smaller girl by the waist and pulled her back. The girl was thrashing wildly about in the air as he threw her over his shoulder.
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU, YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Quinn yelled out.
The younger guy slowly stood to his feet. Blood was running down his lip and nose. There was a deep gash on his left eyebrow. His dark brown eyes were locked onto Quinn. "You bitch!" he seethed.
"FUCK YOU MARIO! FUCK YOU! I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM HER…" Quinn called out.
"GET HER OUT OF HERE NOW!" the older gentleman screamed.
"I got it Robert." Puck answered as he took a fighting Quinn out the door.
"She's having trouble breathing!" Brittany called out.
Blaine quickly hurried over to the taller blonde. Sure enough her breathing was starting to get wheezy. Blaine pulled out his phone and dialed 911. Tears were coming down from Brittany's face as she silently pleaded for the girl to wake up. Just then a blonde haired guy entered the room. His eyes were wide with shock as he took in the scene. Once his eyes landed on the unconscious girl on the couch his heart stopped.
"Oh G&^ NO!" he whimpered out.
The boy rushed over to Brittany and Blaine. "How much has she had?" He asked.
"I don't know Sam!" Brittany responded. "We just got here and found her like this."
Sam glanced at the bleeding Mario in the corner of the room. He eyed him with a vicious look. He wanted to rip the guy's head off and break every single bone in his body. "What did she take!" Sam asked Mario.
"I'm not saying a word until I get a lawyer!" Mario spat out.
"TELL ME WHAT I NEED TO KNOW OR I WILL FUCKING END YOU!"
Rachel shook her head. She couldn't handle it anymore. She had no idea what was going on. Silently she left the room and walked back outside. Her concern right now was Quinn. As soon as she was outside she spotted the girl a little bit down the way. She was furious. And by the way she kept pacing back and forth something worse was about to happen. Puck was with her, trying to calm her down but it was no use. Rachel slowly approached the scene. When the other two became weary of her she slowed to a stop. Hazel met brown. Rachel internally flinched underneath the power of Quinn's heavy and intense gaze. There was so much anger pent up that it was practically radiating off of her in waves.
Quinn drew her gaze away from the smaller girl and threw it at Puck. "Get out of my way or I will hurt you."
"Stop it Quinn. You already got your hits in. Now time to stop and let it go."
"FUCK NO" she spat out. "FUCK NO! YOU AND I BOTH KNOW THAT HE DESERVES FAR MORE THAN THAT! "
"Now is not the time." Puck replied back.
"IT'S THE PERFECT TIME! I KNOW THAT YOU WANT TO KICK HIS ASS JUST AS BADLY AS I DO. YOU AND I BOTH KNOW WHAT HE'S DONE."
"ITS NOT WORTH IT!"
"THE HELL ITS NOT! I WILL MAKE HIM PAY FOR WHAT HE'S DONE!"
"STOP IT! DO YOU WANT TO END UP LIKE MY COUSIN RAY? IF YOU DO THIS, YOU WILL GET ARRESTED. AND YOU WILL GO TO JAIL. IS THAT THE LIFE YOU WANT? DO YOU WANT TO SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE ROTTING IN A JAIL CELL JUST SO YOU COULD BEAT THIS CHUMP'S ASS?"
"I DON'T CARE! HE NEEDS TO PAY"
At that moment Brittany comes rushing out. Sam and Blaine are both hauling the unconscious girl into a vehicle. Quinn and Puck break into silence and rush over to the others. Rachel follows suit. They place the girl in the back seat of Sam's truck.
"We're taking her to the hospital." Brittany explains.
"Alright great. Let's go." Quinn nods.
"No. You're not coming." Brittany replies back.
Hazel eyes dart to Brittany. Her face shifts into a confused and hurt look. Brittany shakes her head and releases a quiet breath. "You can't be in the hospital like this. You're going to go crazy and end up hurting someone. There are too many people around and if you get in trouble we are all screwed. We can't have that. So go take a breather for a few. We will keep in touch and tell you what happens. After you're calm you can join us."
Brittany gave her an apologetic look. Her eyes then shifted over to Rachel with a small sad smile. "I'm sorry about all this. This wasn't how the night was supposed to go. But I'm really glad we met you. You seem like a really awesome person. Maybe we'll hang out again some time?"
"Yeah, sure." Rachel croaked out.
Brittany gave one final glance at Quinn before hopping into the back with Marley. Blaine gave a small hug to Rachel and Quinn. Then he jumped into the back of the truck.
Puck bit the inside of his lip as he eyed the truck and Quinn. He didn't know what to do. A part of him wanted to make sure that his sister, Marley, was safe. But the other part of him couldn't leave Quinn like this. In her state, she was capable of doing something extremely stupid. And right now she needed him. But Marley also needed him.
"Take me somewhere." Rachel stated a little breathlessly.
Quinn looked over at Rachel with a confused look. "What?"
"I said, take me somewhere." Rachel repeated.
The blonde was confused. Her eyes darted over to Puck. He didn't have a clue either. Quinn looked back over to Rachel. "Where?"
"Anywhere!" Rachel replied.
It was in that time that Puck understood what was happening. He gave Rachel a thankful nod before hopping into the back of the truck. With a slam of his fist the truck quickly sped off leaving the two girls alone.
The silence was deafening as the two drove down an isolated road. No one was talking. Quinn hadn't spoken a word since they had gotten into her car. Rachel sat back in the passenger seat with her eyes straight forward. Every now and then she would sneak a few glances at the blonde. The girl seemed to be a lot calmer than she was before. But from the tight grip she had on the wheel revealed otherwise.
Rachel waited patiently for the girl to talk. Time ticked on minute by minute. The further they drove on through the night, the further Quinn withdrew herself. Rachel could feel it. Her eyes went back to the blonde. Her body looked so stiff that it made her shoulders hurt.
"Are you going to tell me what happened back there?" Rachel decided to break the silence.
No response.
Rachel tried again. "Who was that girl back there?"
Again no response. Rachel huffed out a loud breath of annoyance. She was getting frustrated. And she had a reason to be. Something big had happened tonight. And it was serious. But she didn't have a clue as to what happened. Sure, she heard tid bits of information throughout the night but she didn't know what it meant. She didn't know the back story. Like, why did Quinn beat that guys' face in? Did the two have history? How does she know the girl that is passed out on the couch? Why is she so angry with that guy? Mario?
"So that guy Mario, what's his-
"Don't" Quinn quickly interrupted with a firm tone. "Just don't Rachel. You don't need to know anything. This has nothing to do with you."
Rachel, a bit offended replied. "Are you kidding me? I was a part of tonight. I witnessed everything that happened. Just tell me what's going on!"
"Forget everything that you heard and saw tonight."
"What?" Rachel remarked incredulously.
Quinn tightened her grasp on the wheel. "You heard me. Now drop it." She repeated.
Rachel lifted a brow. She was clearly hurt by the other girl's words. She didn't understand why Quinn was being like this. "I don't understand… I thought we were on the same page."
Now it was Quinn's turn to look at her. She looked at her like she was some type of foreign creature. "What are you talking about? Same page? I didn't even know there was a page to begin with."
The brunette crossed her arms across herself, leaning away from Quinn. "So you're not going to tell me what happened?"
"Rachel, remember the deal we made? No personal info. No sharing of our lives. " Quinn pointed out.
Rachel narrowed her eyes and stared at the blonde. "I know but things have changed, haven't they?"
"No." Quinn stated in an even tone.
The brunette was trying to put the pieces together. "So we can't know anything about each other."
"That's what we agreed on." Quinn shot back in an uncaring sort of manner.
Rachel sat back in her seat, completely stunned. This had bullshit written all over it. She wanted nothing more than to slap the other girl upside the head. What are you thinking? Stop acting like a stupid bitch! The brunette could feel herself getting angry now because she knew what Quinn was doing. She was pushing her away, keeping her at arm's length. The frustration was eating at her. "I was just asking a simple question."
"Well I'm not going to answer the fucking question!" Quinn reiterated.
The brunette has had enough. After the night she's had, this was about all she could take. Stuff like this never happened in her world. No one ever treated her this way. People were normal in her world. Well, as normal as they could get, with the exception that they were rich. And this was just the tip of the iceberg. She wanted answers but she wasn't getting any. She started shaking her head. After everything that they had been through tonight, Quinn still refused to share herself. Rachel thought that things were changing between them, especially since they had sex. But the truth was far from that. This could have been the start of something new, something real. But after Quinn's firm words, it all felt like a slap in the face. "Stop the car." Rachel stated.
Quinn growled in a low voice. "I'm not stopping this car."
"Stop the car now!" Rachel demanded.
"No." was all Quinn said.
"Fine." With that Rachel removed her seat belt and opened the car door.
Quinn quickly slammed her foot on the brake. The car immediately screeched to a stop. The blonde huffed out a heaving groan before throwing an angry look at Rachel. "Are you fucking stupid!" she shouted out.
But Rachel was already getting out of the car. Quinn threw her head back against the seat and slapped her palms into the steering wheel with frustration. This girl was fucking stubborn. Why couldn't she just take' NO' for an answer? The blonde shook her head. They had a deal. They weren't going to share personal info. This was only a one night thing. Why couldn't she understand that this didn't matter? In the end they would still part ways. They would never see each other again after tonight. So what difference would any of this make? Quinn watched as the smaller girl traveled further and further down the road. Why does she even care?
The car started rolling forward, keeping up with Rachel. "Get your ass back in here!"
Rachel didn't respond, instead she just kept on walking further and further away. Quinn drove along with her.
"Get in the car now." Quinn threatened in a low dangerous voice.
Rachel was still not listening. Quinn was getting angrier by the second. "Get in, or I will leave you out here in the middle of the road."
Rachel not really believing her, continued moving forward with a long stride in her step.
"You know what? Fuck you then. Walk home! I don't give a shit!" Quinn spat out.
After that the blonde stomped on the gas. The car lurched forward. A trail of red lights drove past the walking Rachel. It only took a few minutes until all the lights had disappeared. Rachel shuffled to a stop in complete darkness. She shivered, wrapping her arms around herself. In the back of her mind she still couldn't believe that the blonde had actually left her. She waited for a few minutes. But the car hasn't come back. Rachel was starting to feel a sense of dread now. At least 15 minutes have passed. Rachel, finally coming to the conclusion that Quinn wasn't coming back.
40 minutes later…
"Just get in the fucking car Rachel!" Quinn was yelling out.
Rachel was angrier now. Quinn had come back. She still refused to enter the girl's vehicle. Quinn was growling and uttering an obscene amount of cuss words. Once she had gotten irritated enough she parked her car and got out. She started yelling at the back of Rachel's head all while following her by foot.
"You are the most infuriating girl in the world!"
Rachel balled up her fist and spun around angrily. "Takes one to know one." She threw back.
"You don't even know me."
"Yeah exactly! You ass!" Rachel pointed out.
"Just get back in the car." Quinn groaned out.
"No!" Rachel exclaimed.
"I'm not leaving without you."
"Fuck off!" Rachel huffed out.
"You want me to answer your stupid fucking questions? Fine, then I will! If that means you get back into the car with me." Quinn stated.
Rachel paused and stared at the blonde. Her chest was heaving rapidly from all the walking and yelling. She looked beautiful even in the dark. Her skin glowed like an alabaster rock. She was breathtaking and it annoyed her because she was still mad at her. But as her mind started processing what was going on her face turned into a wide smirk. The realization hit her full on. "Well that took you long enough!"
Quinn stood stock still and narrowed her eyes. What the hell just happened here? Did I- Did she plan this? The blonde was shocked and surprised. She totally fucking planned this…. Just so that I would agree to answer her stupid questions… She couldn't believe it. And oddly enough, it turned her on. She lunged at the girl. Rachel looked a bit fearful until Quinn crushed their lips together.
Rachel was starting to feel turned on again. Quinn dominated her mouth and was taking control. Rachel moaned and gave in to the other girl. Moments later she was thrown into the back seat of Quinn's car. Once again clothing disappeared and loud pants filled the car. The car started shaking fiercely once the girls found their rhythm. It didn't take long until they both cried out into the dead of night.
"How long had she been sober for?" Rachel asked as she gently shifted her head to Quinn's bare shoulder.
"For almost three years."
"Wow… but why would she throw away all that hard work? It doesn't make any sense." Rachel commented.
"It was Mario." Quinn stated.
"I don't get it. I thought he was only a dealer. " Rachel pointed out.
"He is."
"But he can't force people to do anything. People make their own choices."
Quinn huffed out and tightened her hold on Rachel. "Not when it comes to drugs Rachel. If you were to put drugs in front of their faces they would have no choice. Having an addiction is like a disease. You never really get cured from it. It will always be a part of you. Sometimes you can fight it, sometimes you can't. Addicts don't see things as normal people would. If they really did have the choice they would still choose to get high. Mario is the type of guy that will throw that kind of info in your face. He would do anything to get you to slip up. And when he has something set in his mind he goes after it. He's a sleaze ball. He would do anything to get what he wants. If he needs people to buy from him there is nothing lower than targeting recovering people."
"Sounds like you know from experience?" Rachel commented.
Quinn nodded her head. "Yes, he used to be my dealer."
Rachel widened her eyes. "Really?"
"Yeah. It was a long time ago though. But when I was using, things were hard and difficult. Mario was always around. Every time I tried to better myself he would be there just to make sure he would crush me. He enjoys seeing people suffer. It was a vicious cycle that lasted for two years. One day, I ended up in the hospital, nearly dead. And all I could remember thinking, was what have I done? Ever since that day, I've stayed away from drugs. It's no easy task. I still think about using every day when I wake up. And if I could, I would still use if it didn't mean death."
Rachel threw her gaze up to Quinn and placed a sweet kiss to the side of her temple. They had been this way for nearly an hour now, just holding each other. As time went by they began learning more and more about each other. They talked as if they had known each other for life. The minutes easily turned to hours. And as the sun started rising they drove together down the road, hand in hand. Rachel leaned her head against the window looking out into the beautiful morning sky. There was a grim feeling in the pit of her stomach. She didn't want to leave this girl behind. She was amazing, smart, sweet, and funny. And it struck a warm chord within her at the thought.
Quinn pulled into the parking lot playground that was right around the block from Rachel's house. The two avoided the inevitable as they both sat and stared at anything but each other. Quinn chewed on the inside of her lip, wondering what do to. Rachel stole a quick glance at the blonde and smiled. The girl was in deep thought just like she was. Hazel drew their gaze up to her. And together they smiled sheepishly.
"I guess this is goodbye then." Rachel started off.
"Yeah, I guess so." Quinn nodded.
Rachel hummed and restlessly played with her fingers. "Well thank you, for everything. I don't think I've ever experienced a night like this before."
"Me neither." Quinn responded back.
After one more glance Rachel pulled open the door. She was stalling, waiting for Quinn to say something. But the girl clearly wasn't going to. And neither was she. Rachel snorted and shook her head. Even after everything they still couldn't say it.
"Goodbye, Rachel." Quinn broke off.
"Quinn." Rachel responded back with a light airy tone.
The brunette clambered out of the vehicle and shut the door. Quinn rolled down her window as Rachel began to straighten herself out. "Hey Rachel." Quinn called out.
The other girl poked her head in the window. "Thanks for staying the night." Quinn exclaimed.
Rachel smiled sheepishly. "Thanks for asking." She responded.
And then she went on her way and traveled down the path that led to her house. Quinn watched with a heavy heart as she contemplated. She wanted to run to the other girl and wrap her arms around her. She wanted to say that she would like to see her again. But as the girl walked further and further away she couldn't find it in herself to get out of the car.
"I should've kissed her." Quinn whispered in defeat.
But the more she thought about it, the more she thought about how cheesy all this was. It reminded her of one of those sappy tv shows where the main character was supposed to proclaim their love. Quinn rolled her eyes and strummed her fingers on the wheel. She scoffed and shook her head.
"Fuck that.." the girl stated as she threw her car in gear and took off down the road.
