Chapter 5
Charlene sat at the table, carving a block of wood. Nearby were spray bottles, chainmail, and a pair of handmade goggles. As she held a carving tool, she perceived pain on the back of her hand. She looked at it, and saw that there was a blister on her hand. Suddenly, she heard footsteps coming towards the door to her room. Jason walked in and eyed Charlene's project.
"What are you making?" Jason asked. "Chandra's cosplay." Charlene answered without turning to look at him. "Chandra's making her big comeback, and I should at least look like her." Jason smacked his forehead with his hand. "Damn, I forgot to tell you…" Charlene turned towards him. "Tell me what?"
"We use magic to change our appearance." Jason cast a spell. Immediately, the blue robe appeared on him, the hood covering part of his face. Charlene looked as if she had figured out something. "So that's how your Jace 'cosplay' disappeared into oblivion, but how the hell do you do it?"
"Just concentrate your mana." Charlene did, and all of the sudden, she felt weight on her shoulders and hips. She looked down and saw that her clothes had changed to those of Chandra. She went to a mirror to see if her brown hair and eyes had changed. Sure enough, her hair was red and her eyes were orange.
Jason looked at her, stunned to see that she had replicated Chandra's attire perfectly. "How the hell did you do that?" Chandra shot him a look, as if saying, "You stupid?".
"Jason, I've played Chandra in every game I played. How would I not know what she looked like?" Jason slapped his forehead, realizing his mistake. Charlene looked back at the mirror. "Hmmm… It needs a slight tweaking. It's a bit heavy and not that combat-friendly in my perspective…" Concentrating her mana, she changed her attire so that the armor was lighter in weight and flexible for combat. Charlene turned around and smiled.
"Can we train again? This time, while wearing this." Jason nodded and the duo planeswalked through the Blind Eternities.
After hours of intense combat training in Zendikar, the two planeswalkers decided to take a break by planeswalking to Ravnica. The two sat underneath an intricate tree, most likely tended by a Selesnyan druid.
"Ever thought of joining a guild?" Jason asked Charlene. She shook her head. "Nah, I'd rather stay mono-red, but the Izzet looks pretty fun."
"Just warning you, Mizzy can be an asshole, and don't get me started on Ral." Charlene stared at him. "You call Niv-Mizzet Mizzy?" Jason laughed. "Why not? Just don't say that in front of him though." Just that moment, Ral Zarek passed along.
"'Sup, Jace?" he called to Jason. Jason groaned. Ral turned towards Charlene. "Who's this?"
"This is Chandra. I'm showing her around."
"You finally found here?" Jason nodded his head.
Ral raised an eyebrow. "Really. Well, my lady." He grabbed Charlene's arm and stood her up. "Fire and lightning. Good combo, don't you think? You should stick with me, not like that annoying bloke over there" Instantly, Ral shot an arc of lightning up into the sky, which looked very roughly like a heart. He turned towards Jason. "Jace. You and me, duel for this fine lady." Charlene gave a look of surprise while Jason rolled his eyes. "Not here though. Zendikar has more space. Let's go there." Ral agreed, and planeswalked away.
Charlene stared at Jason. "You're just accepting his challenge?" Jason motioned with his hand, as if saying "Don't worry". With that, the two planeswalked out of Ravnica and into Zendikar.
The place that all three planeswalkers arrived was a canyon, wider and more rockier than the Grand Canyon. Jason and Ral stood on either sides of the canyon, ready to duel. Charlene rode on top of a phoenix, ready to watch.
Ral began the battle by shooting a lightning bolt at Jason, who countered it with a simple counterspell. Jason appeared very bored. "Is that all you got? If it is, you're wasting my time." Ral looked more determined than ever, and started to charge up the machine on his back. More energy was generated from it, creating thunder clouds above him, crackling thunder. Ral smiled widely and sent the clouds above Jason. Still unamused, he waved his hand, and all of the clouds dissipated. Jason turned towards Ral, annoyance shown blatantly across his face.
"This battle is over."
Jason started to cast a spell. Blue aura started to glow in his hands. Runes started to form around Ral's head. The floating runes imprinted into his head with a bright shine, and Ral collapsed to the ground.
Charlene came down next to Jason. "Well, wasn't that interesting. What happened to Ral?"
"Just a little mind surge." Jason replied. "Just unables him to cast spells for a while, since he won't get access to the part of his mind that contains info about his spells. Let's go back home." Jason planeswalked away, but Charlene stayed a bit longer. Riding her phoenix, she came to Ral's side, who was massaging his head from the impact of the mind spell.
"Y-you okay?" Charlene asked. Ral nodded. "I'm fine. I have a good head." He knocked on his cranium. Charlene gave a small laugh. "Oh and by the way," Ral took out a small note and gave it to Charlene. She opened it. It had a phone number on it.
"Real name's Raidon Tanaka." Charlene heard Ral quip. "Call me. I'll see you at the planeswalker gathering." He winked. Charlene let out a small giggle and planeswalked back to her home.
Author's Note: Ral's appearance in this chapter seems weird, huh? Please tell me I'm not the only one...
