Author's Note: I hate writing combat-related scenes. I usually leave that up to my friend, but she's sort of busy these days...

Chapter 6

"Charlene, wake up!"

Charlene opened her eyes to see Jason, shaking her to get her up. She rubbed her eyes. "Wa yeh wan?"

"What?"

"What do you want?"

"It's the big day! You woke up a bit late! Hurry up and eat breakfast!" Charlene's eyes widened. "Oh, shit!" She got out of bed, changed into decent clothes, and ate as fast as possible. After she put her plates in the sink, she and Jason planeswalked to the site of the Wizards of the Coast building.

They landed in the state of Washington, the building right in front of them. Small groups of people were arriving at the entrance. A few people greeted Jason as they walked by. One person walked up to Jason.

"Hey, Jason! Long time no see!" the person said. He eyed Charlene. "Who's this? Jason, you shouldn't go around bringing unassociated people around."

"She's a friend, don't worry." Jason went up to the person's ear. "She's Chandra." The person stared at Jason, astonished. "You're kidding." Jason shook his head. "Keep it quiet though. I don't want Liliana knowing yet." The person nodded, and turned to Charlene. "Name's Gilbert." He shook her hand. "Charlene." She replied. With that, Gilbert left the duo.

"That's Gideon Jura, by the way." Jason informed Charlene. She looked at Jason, awestruck. "Really? Man, there's so many planeswalkers and so many names to memorize." With that, the pair walked towards the building.

"Just curious," Charlene said all of the sudden. "How do non-human planeswalkers, like Ajani and Sorin, get reincarnated?"

"Well, there are some planes that have the non-human races." Jason replied. "For example, there's leonin in Theros, so that's how Ajani got reincarnated that time, and I have no idea how he convinced Wizards to let the players gain 100 life-"

"Your previous reincarnation managed to persuade Wizards to let him exile a whole library, killing the player at max seven turns."

"Shut up, that's how 'I' got banned back in 2011. I don't see Ajani banned yet. Anyway, there are vampires in Zendikar, so that's how Sorin got reincarnated back then, and yeah. That's how non-human planeswalkers reincarnate. Also, in order to not let the humans of this plane get freaked out about their appearance, they planeswalk to a different area in the Wizards property." Charlene nodded her head, indicating that she understood.

Finally, the pair arrived at the area in which all the planeswalkers gathered. Jason changed into Jace's appearance, and quickly cast an illusion spell to hide Charlene. "We don't want Liliana or Clea to be suspicious, right?" Charlene nodded. "Don't worry, I'll disperse the spell when it's your time to shine."

Just then, a black-haired woman walked up to Jason. "Hey, Jace."

"Uh, hi, Liliana." Jason greeted in return. Liliana was about to say something when a loud voice in front of the room called, "Planeswalkers! Welcome to another Gathering!" Cheers were yelled. "Attendance check!"

"Ajani!"

A loud, lion-like roar that roughly sounded like "Here!" echoed across the room.

"Jace!"

Jason responded with a loud "Here!"

"Sorin!"

A polite "Present!" was heard from across the room.

"Karn!"

A metallic "Present!" was issued.

The list went on, listing more than twenty existing planeswalkers. Finally,

"Clea!"

An annoyed "Here." was heard near where Ajani was standing.

"Alright, nobody reincarnated, nobody died, huh?"

Jason and Charlene stood wide-eyed. They couldn't believe that Chandra's name was omitted. Jason motioned Charlene near the wall.

"It's probably Clea's doing. Just saying, the illusion will wear off if you leave the room. Change into Chandra and burst down the door, and add a bit of fire to that. Act natural." Charlene smirked, and left the room.

Charlene, standing in front of the door, morphed into the pyromancer. Using her powers, she made a small explosion, flinging the door across the Gathering room. She emerged from the smoke, hair ablaze.

"Sorry I'm late. It's been nearly three years, huh?"

The room loudly cheered from the return of the iconic red planeswalker, everyone swarming around her to exchange hugs and the lot. Gilbert and Jason pretended to not know that Chandra was coming, and started to cheer alongside the other planeswalkers.

"Well."

The cheers stopped almost suddenly, and heads turned to Clea. "So the veteran's here. So what? I'm a lot stronger, since I'm sure she didn't do anything for three years." Clea shot a fireball at Charlene's stomach. The impact shot Charlene to the wall, and she fell to the ground. All of the sudden, Charlene felt herself weaker than before.

Power deteriorating magic? Charlene was confused. That's black magic! Where did she learn it!? Unless… She saw Liliana out of the corner of her eye, smiling. Liliana…

Clea was about to shoot another fireball when Jason walked in front of Charlene, blocking her. "Let her be." he commanded. "I'm sure Mark Rosewater wouldn't be to happy about what you're doing." Clea laughed. "I don't give a fuck about that plane-bound. I'm a planeswalker! I rank higher than any plane-bound!" She shot her fireball. Jason, with a wave of his hand, countered the spell. Frustrated, Clea began firing more spheres of fire at a rapid fire pace. Jason, on the other hand, kept countering each sphere wave after wave. All of the sudden, the blue mana around his hand faded, and Jason was hit on his arm. His arm went limp.

"YOU GET OUT OF THIS, LILIANA!" Jason yelled. "I KNOW IT'S YOUR DOING!"

Liliana feigned surprise. "Moi? I'm not doing anything. It's all Clea's magic. And by the way…" She summoned massive hordes of zombies. "My undead need a snack."

Charlene froze. The horde caught sight of her, and started to inch towards her. Jason tried to cast Cyclonic Rift, but somehow, he couldn't remember how to cast it.

As the zombies were about to surround her, Charlene tried to cast a burn spell to disintegrate at least some of the close undead, but her hands were shaking so much that the mana couldn't be concentrated. She couldn't do it.

What she needed was a miracle.

Author's note: Let's play a game! Which spell is Charlene going to cast? (Hint is given in the chapter)
