I feel like it's the new normal for me starting a new post by apologizing. A lot happened during the holidays and I was not in the mood to write. When my muse returned my computer decided to crash and the only computer I had access to for two weeks was the computer at work. Apparently I have to actually do my job while at work, who would have guessed?
Anyway, here you have it, chapter seven!
Aiming for the top
Chapter seven
Heart to heart
"Hotch? Hotch, are you there? I can't find Spencer, he didn't come home last night!" Spencer jumped in surprise when he heard Derek banging loudly on the door. "HOTCH!"
Feeling slightly disappointed he made his way to the hallway to open the door as Aaron seemed to be unable to react. It had been a few minutes since Spencer told the singer how he felt and Aaron had been frozen at his spot since. Spencer was starting to get anxious.
"HO…"
"Derek. As you can see I'm perfectly fine" Spencer interrupted when he opened the door. Before he could react the drummer wrapped his arms around him in a crushing hug.
"Why didn't you answer your phone? I've been calling like a madman, and here you are at Hotch's! I thought maybe the drug-dealing scumbag got to you or something!" Derek accused when he let Spencer go.
"Derek, I don't have to tell you what I do! I am not a child!" Spencer snapped.
"Derek, as you can see he's fine, calm down" Aaron said, finally snapping out of his frozen state. "Now I'd like to finish my breakfast. There's coffee if you want some, Derek" the singer continued before walking back into the kitchen followed by Derek and a slightly hesitant Spencer.
"How come you're here kid?" Derek asked after helping himself to some coffee.
"Well, uhm…" Spencer tried, not completely sure what to say. He glanced at Aaron for support.
"Spence got wasted last night, you were busy with that Jordan woman and I decided to bring Spencer here instead of letting him trying to get home by himself" the singer explained, causing Derek to burst out laughing.
"I wasn't that drunk" the guitarist retorted with a glare.
"Really? Do you often discuss engineering with lamps? I had no clue that was a hobby of yours, my apologies" Aaron teased.
This statement caused Derek to laugh even more and Spencer to groan with embarrassment. Had he really done that? Incredibly embarrassing!
The trio talked for about 20 minutes before Spencer and Derek decided to go home. During this conversation Aaron felt awkward and frankly a little nervous. Not that he'd ever show this. He knew he didn't handle Spencer's confession about his feelings well, freezing to the spot like that. It was completely due to surprise, he had not expected the feelings he had to be mutual.
"Spencer can I talk to you for a moment?" he asked as the other two were about to walk out.
"I'll wait downstairs 'kay?" Derek said. Spencer nodded in reply.
"Spencer I'd like to apologize about talking about what you did under the influence last night, I shouldn't have" Aaron said after the door closed behind the drummer. This was not what he had planned to say however. Aaron's nerves were all over the place by this point.
"That's… Well, I can't say I enjoyed you sharing that information but its fine. Is that really what you wanted to discuss?" Spencer replied, with a slightly disappointed tone.
"No it's not what I wanted to say. It's just…" Aaron began, pausing to collect his thoughts. "I'd also like to apologize for freezing to the spot during… Well, before Derek showed up I mean. I was so surprised, I expected you to be horrified by my confession which is why I made sure to tell you your place in the band was… well, is, in jeopardy. And I…" the singer came to an abrupt stop in his monologue when Spencer put a hand on his shoulder.
"No need to apologize. And horrified is not how I would explain what I felt. Ecstatic would be more appropriate" Spencer said weakly, eyes now locked with Aaron's and a slight blush covering his face.
They stood in silence for a while. The only thing Aaron could think about was how incredible Spencer's eyes look up close. Almost instinctively he raised his hand, wanting to touch the skin on the other man's face. When he realized what he was about to do, Aaron paused. Spencer gave a small nod stating it was okay for Aaron to continue.
Slowly Aaron stroked against Spencer's cheek. The touch caused the other man's eyes to flutter close and the slight blush on his face to deepen. When Aaron's thumb lightly brushed over the bottom lip the younger man's eyes opened again. He couldn't help but to smile when the beautiful hazel eyes glanced down at Aaron's lips before returning to once again meet his gaze.
"Spencer" Aaron whispered, once again brushing his thumb against the other man's lips. He was unable to form any coherent thoughts at this point. Slowly he leaned forward, part of him slightly surprised that Spencer was doing the same thing.
Their lips came together in a chaste kiss that lasted no more than a few moments, but to Aaron this was one of the best moments of his life. He gave Spencer a small smile. The guitarist did he same before crushing Aaron's lips with another breathtaking kiss.
A loud honk from outside caused the two men to jump apart. With a small smile to Aaron Spencer took a step back.
"Probably Derek. I should go" the guitarist began and turned to walk towards the door. Pausing for a moment he turned to face Aaron again. "See you later?" the younger man asked hesitantly.
"Yes" was the only thing Aaron managed his voice slightly hoarse. Spencer smiled again before waking out the door, leaving Aaron standing immobile, panting slightly.
Spencer walked slowly to Derek's car, trying go put his emotions in check. Even though recent events did feel incredible Spencer had a hard time believing that it could actually turn into something more. Therefore he did not wish to discuss what happened with his roommate.
"What took you so long kid? What did Hotch want?" Derek asked when Spencer opened the door to the passenger seat.
"Oh… He, ehm, wanted to apologize for telling you about last night" Spencer stuttered while damning his fair skin as he blushed slightly.
"He did now, did he? I have a hard time imagining that discussion would have taken this long. What else did he say?" the drummer asked with a teasing voice.
"Did you know that during the past 400 years nearly a quarter of a million people have been killed as a direct result of volcanic eruptions? That number probably tripled by aftereffects such as climate change and disease" Spencer stated randomly.
"Fine, don't tell me. I'll find out on my own" Derek chuckled in response.
Two days later the band met for another rehearsal, everyone still on a high after the competition. They wanted to be properly prepared when meeting with the mysterious manager mentioned at the competition. The first meeting was o take place in a week.
While happy and excited Spencer did his best to stop from staring at Aaron. The two of them hadn't been able to talk after the kiss in Aaron's hallway. Derek had been on him almost constantly about which had caused Spencer to state random facts at a regular basis. He was nervous and couldn't help but to wonder if Aaron regretted the whole thing.
"Damn!" Derek suddenly exclaimed, as they were putting their stuff away after rehearsing.
"What? What's wrong?" Emily asked alarmed.
"Oh, I forgot that I have to check out this house tonight! A buddy of mine wants help rebuilding most of it. Crap, I'm already late!"
Derek worked as a contractor and liked to help out friends with various projects.
"What are you waiting for then? Go!" Emily replied, amused.
"You okay getting home on your own Pretty Boy?"
"I'll drive him. Just go, we'll finish up here" Aaron said.
After saying goodbye to Emily the singer and guitarist walked to Aaron's car. As soon as the pair were alone awkward tension erupted.
"So… Would like to get something to eat?" Aaron asked, unable to come up with anything else to talk about as he was driving. "Takeaway perhaps?"
"Sure" Spencer mumbled in response. He was incredibly nervous by now, but he didn't want to bring up the subject of their kiss a few days ago. After a short stop to pick up some food Spencer found himself in his and Derek's kitchen.
"How Derek could afford this place alone is beyond me" Aaron stated.
Spencer only shrugged in response; he wasn't sure how to go about talking to Aaron. After all, the singer hadn't said anything about what happened and Spencer felt too nervous to bring it up. A few minutes of very awkward silence followed. Spencer couldn't stand it anymore, he had to say something. Anything really.
"Would you like a beer or something?" he asked Aaron.
"Sure, a beer sounds good."
Spencer got up and grabbed a beer for himself and Aaron. They decided to move to the living room since both had finished their meals. They sat next to each other on the couch in silence, both enjoying their drinks. For some reason Spencer felt less awkward in the living room.
"Aaron I…"
"Spencer…" the two men began at the same time, causing the older of the two to chuckle and the younger to blush.
"Go ahead" Aaron said.
"I just… I'm… Never mind" Spencer mumbled, not feeling courageous enough to speak.
After the attempt to speak they sat in silence for a few minutes. Spencer jumped slightly when he felt a hand on his shoulder. When he turned towards Aaron he noticed that the singer had moved closer.
"Spencer, I really do like you, you know? And I don't want us to be awkward around each other like we have been since… But if you don't… Just let me know? And I'll back off" Aaron said.
Spencer couldn't help but to laugh a little at the uncertainty in the other man's voice. This was obviously not the right move. The singer got a hurt look across his face before the ever so stoic expression returned and he removed the hand from Spencer's shoulder.
"No, Aaron!" Spencer exclaimed quickly and put his hand on the older man's thigh before said man withdrew. "It's just… Honestly Aaron, I haven't been able to get you out of my head since… Pretty much since I joined the band. I've never experienced these emotions before and I'm not sure how to handle them. But Aaron, I didn't mean to laugh but…"
Aaron had interrupted the other man's rambling by placing a finger over his mouth. When Spencer made no attempt to speak the singer removed his finger and began caressing Spencer's cheek.
"It's fine Spence" Aaron whispered, eyes locked with Spencer's.
The stoic expression the older man usually had was completely gone, much to Spencer's delight. Now the other man had a softer expression with a hint of nervousness present, along with something else Spencer didn't know how to interpret. The older man slowly leaned forward. He felt his heart beating with heavy beats in his chest when the other man's face was merely an inch from his own.
Their lips met and the sensation was, like last time, almost overwhelming. At first their lips moved lightly against ach other causing the guitarist to whimper. When Aaron heard the whimper he smiled into the kiss and continued with more force than before. This caused Spencer to gasp and breaking the kiss.
Aaron watched him with a slightly worried expression about to speak. Spencer however, would have none of hit and crushed their lips together. After a few moments he felt Aaron's tongue brushing against his lips. Without a moments hesitation his lips parted, allowing the other man's tongue enter his mouth for the first time. Spencer's breath picked up and he almost gasped when he heard a deep moan from the other man.
When they both desperately needed to breathe the kiss broke. They sat close together on the couch, foreheads resting against each others. None of them moved for a while.
"Spence?" Aaron asked after a while, sitting up straight.
"Hmm?"
"Not that I mind, but you do realize your hand is very far up my thigh?"
Quickly he removed his hand blushing furiously.
"Sorry" he mumbled.
Aaron only chuckled and pulled the younger man into a tight embrace. "Don't worry about it" he said when he released Spencer from the embrace. "I just don't want to move to fast and screw this up."
Spencer only nodded and smiled brightly. He didn't want to move to fast either, every word he had said to Aaron was true. Spencer had never felt this way about anyone before.
Bit shorter than I would have liked. I blame it on writers block. Now I know however where I would like to take this story and have an outline ready for the next few chapters. Only have to find the time to actually write.
