Jade had been at Escala helping Ana with Teddy and packing the apartment up for the move to the new house when she came home to the apartment to find Simon Barrow waiting for her, looking like he would rather be anywhere in the world.

Simon was a lawyer and worked at the same firm as Carrick, which was the best one in the state, and Jade knew him quite well. He was only a few years older than her and she'd gone to him several times over the years for things she couldn't ask of Carrick, like writing her will before going back to Israel.

"Simon… is everything okay?"

"Uh no… can we go in to your place? I need to talk to you about something"

She nodded warily and opened the door, watching Simon as he walked in and sat down awkwardly on the sofa, fiddling with his tie as she sat opposite him.

"Is anyone else in?"

"No, Luke took CJ and Faith to see his brother and sister, and the twins don't come home until the end of the week. It's just me here…"

Simon nodded, looking as though he wanted the ground to open up and swallow him "We had a client come in and I… I agreed to have a look at it because of…. Well... I hope this doesn't affect our friendship but…"

Jade was pale and shaking, her eyes wide "I'm sorry- what are you talking about?"

"Evelyn and Edward James have petitioned to… petitioned to see their great-grandchildren"

She faltered, looking confused "Who the hell are Evelyn and Edward James and why are you telling me this?"

"They had a son. Lincoln James, and if he is –was- your father, then they are the grandparents to your children"

She looked like she was about to vomit and shook her head repeatedly "no. No, no, no this can't be happening"

Simon managed a weak smile, though it didn't reach his eyes "Look, I know that Christian Grey has been a father to you since you were born, but there is obviously a biological chance that Lincoln James was your father as he was married to Elena Lincoln at the time you were conceived and the DNA was never really sorted with that… I want as much as you do for Christian to come back as your father, but obviously if he doesn't… the James family are going to strongly argue that they should be allowed access to your children. All four of them, or just the biological two, I can't say, I didn't get that many details"

She blinked in surprise, clearly shell-shocked "Right… They want me to do a DNA test, see if I am their Granddaughter, and then see my babies if I am?"

"That's the short version, yes"

"Give me their contact details"

"Jade you know I can't do that"

She looked as though she was going to cry and James coughed "He's a dentist in the City, you can find the number on Google, but obviously I said nothing okay?"

She nodded, still shaking "Of course… thank you Simon"

"Don't thank me yet"

Simon had been right, one call to the dentist office number and she had been put through to Edward James, who sounded happy enough that she wanted to meet him and his wife, though Jade was curt and quick on the phone, hanging up when he agreed to meet her at their apartment an hour later.

Jade didn't know who she was supposed to tell about what she was doing, and knew that everyone she could speak to would likely tell her not to go and see the James couple, but she put the thoughts to the back of her head and drove across Seattle, calling Elena on her hands-free though it went to answer phone and she left a message.

"Mum… oh this is bad, it's really bad. Can you call me back when you get this, straight away? Lincoln James… his parents want to see my kids and I just.. I can't… please call me back I have to go…"

She hung up and parked the car and stormed up to the apartment, being quickly let in by Evelyn and Edward James, who were the rich socialite type that looked far too much like Lincoln for her stomach not to turn.

"Jade, dear, have a seat"

Jade didn't sit, a cold, icy look on her face and she was shaking slightly, despite the heating in the room. "I don't know you, and I am sure that you are nice people, but I will not let you anywhere near my children –not one of them is going to see either of you, let alone acknowledge you as their Grandparent"

Edward James looked annoyed and opened his mouth to speak but Jade cut him off

"Elena is my mother and whilst I know that she slept with Lincoln James and my father Christian Grey at the same time, but biology means nothing to me. Your son hit my mother repeatedly, even when he knew she was pregnant, your son kidnapped and held hostage my mother, my pregnant step mother and me. To keep us all alive I killed him, and you know what, I have no regrets over that decision. He was a disgusting human being and the world is far better without him in it. I will do anything and everything in my power to make sure that my children never have to know even the name Lincoln James. So you can do your stupid little paternity test but it will do nothing. Christian Grey was a teenager when I was left with him and he still threw away the DNA test, preferring to raise a child that may or may not have been his in favour of giving your son any chance of going anywhere near me. I think that says a lot about him, and it tells me everything I need to know. I'll see you in court"

Judging by their shocked expressions, Evelyn and Edward James had never been told 'no' before, and Jade flashed them a look of pure hatred before storming out of their apartment, slamming the door behind her as Elena started calling her back.
