"You okay Aves?" I asked as i pushed the cart through wal-mart. I was a well known political fixer but i loved a good sunday shop at Wal-mart. We had spent the day together playing and online shopping for clothes as she watched cartoons. She was an easy little girl and i loved spending time with her but i couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that she was all mine.

She nodded and smiled as i tickled her side.

"Do you want the princess ones or the cowgirl ones?" I asked pointing to the night time pampers. I watched as she did a face. She knitted her eyebrows together then chose the cowgirl ones and gave a side smiled. I watched in amazed as she did a face that i had only seen Fitz do when i first met him. I shook my head and tried to be in the moment with Avery.

"So, on friday do you want to see Uncle Teddy and my mom?"

"Is your mommy nice?"

"She's probably nicer than i am" i chuckled as her eyes grew wide

"But you is super nice Livvie!"

"Well thank you, so is that a yes?"

"Uh huh" she sucked her thumb. I knew i shouldn't let her but she looked so calm and i didn't want to freak her out.

(Break)

"Libby?" I stood in shock as i was about to call Emily to come over on thursday since she was supposed to be on the east coast thursday.

"Mom!" I squeaked. I had just finished putting Avery down for an afternoon nap and stepped into the living room to see Emily standing by the door with her arms crossed.

"Imagine my surprise when one of my girls tell me the other has adopted a child" i widened my eyes silently cursing Kate's big mouth. I sighed Emily was my mother no matter how much i tried to be independent the Grants had practically all but adopted me and it was nice to have a family. Even though my dad would always be my dad i knew he would want me to be happy.

"I was just about to call you"

"To do what? Tell me over the phone?" She rolled her eyes and i listened as her heels clicked the wooden floors. Emily Grant was now 57 years old but didn't look a day older than when i had first met her except a few wrinkles around her eyes. She had the same brown, thick hair and small figure. She wore a navy blue pair of dress pants and a white blouse with a coat since it was november

"Sit"

I sat down quickly, Emily Grant was the one person i was scared of when she was upset.

"What is going on Lib?" She huffed "A child is a lot of work! Especially a 3 year old. Don't get me wrong i know you are brilliant and can do everything but you work long hours and you always said you didn't want children right now"

"I didn't think i did but as soon as i met her i knew i was supposed to be her mom! She's brilliant, witty and she needs someone. And frankly, i need her too" Emily looked over and squeezed my knee "Where is she?"

"She's asleep, she doesn't nap for very long though"

"How come?"

"She has some nightmares" i explained the situation

"I could use some help i have no idea if i'm saying the right things-"

"Lib, you're a first time parent you are not going to know everything"

"Exactly! You have 3 and -"

"Four" she corrected smiling "of course i'll always be here for you" she kissed my head "i will start on dinner" she stood and went off to the kitchen

(Break)

"Livvie?" Avery's voice filled the kitchen as Emily and i started laughing at something Mason said to her on the phone. I looked over at the door to see Avery's curls loosened and coming out of the ponytail. She had on a pair of black tights and a white t-shirt on as she clutched her blanket.

"Hi Aves" i walked over and picked her up putting her on my hip. Her head went straight to my neck as i sat down with her on the chair at the table. Emily smiled as Avery started to turn slowly to face her.

"Hi" Emily started softly "i'm your nana Em"

Avery furrowed her eyebrows

"I never had a nana before" she whispered

"I'm your mommy's mom" She knitted her eyebrows and looked over at me

"You're my mommy?"

"Yes"

"Do i call you mommy now?"

"You can call me Livvie if you want"

She nodded and faced Emily but pressed her head against my chest.

"So, Avery how old are you?"

"I is this many" she held up three of her chubby little fingers.

"Wow, do you know when your birthday is?"

"Birthday?" She furrowed her eyebrows "what's that?"

My heart broke as i realized she never celebrated a birthday.

"The day you were born, we have a big party with all your friends and family"

"I don't have any" she pouted

"You have tons! You'll meet them all this week" Emily assured her.

"Your birthday is February 3rd baby"

"Ohtay" she smiled shyly and i watched her jump slightly as Emily got up to get dinner. I rubbed her arm and got up as my phone rang.

"I'll be right in the living room okay?" I whispered as i answered the phone. Avery nodded as she watched Emily set a plate in front of her.

"Olivia Pope"

"Liv!" Quinn's voice quickly spread through the line

"Hi Quinny"

"So, i was wondering if you wanted us to keep you updated this weekend with the case? I know you've got a pretty big dinner introducing Avery and all-"

"Keep me updated please, it's just a big case i want it to be seen through"

"No problem, how is she?"

"She's-" i listened as the glass shattered against the floor and Avery started crying "gotta go"

"Bye"

I ran over to see Emily trying to comfort Avery but she was freaking out

"Aves? What's wrong?"

"I" she hiccuped "i was helping put the plate down and it dropped! I sorry! I so sorry!"

I sighed and rubbed her back as she ran over to me and hugged me

"It's okay! Just an accident" i let her calm down before moving to clean up the glass eventually she ate some chicken before wanting to go watch a movie.

"Liv, you're great with her. Perfect fit"

I smiled "i feel so bad though about how she gets scared" emily nodded

"She just needs some time and some love both of which i know you will give her" I nodded and watched her stand.

"I have to get going but before i do i know you hate ambushes so you should know Fitz will be home for thanksgiving this year" i gulped "And i'm expecting you and our newest addition there friday night to greet him"

"Mo-"

"No excuses, i want a dinner with all of you"

"Kate's coming?"

"Kate will be home for christmas"

I rolled my eyes but nodded and watched as she got her coat. We both looked at Avia who had been watching us secretly whip her head in the direction of the tv. I chuckled

"Avery come say bye Nana's leaving" Emily tried. I nodded and watched as Emily crouched down and Avery trotted over to her and cautiously gave her a hug goodbye before running over towards me.

"See you thursday night"

"Bye" i waved and held Avery's hand doing the same.
