AN: I firstly have to apologise to everyone for this taking so long. Just warning you that I'm about to ramble so skip to the then paragraph if you don't what to read it. You've probably heard all these excuses before. Iv been swamped by my Uni work and now doing a tonne of exams soon so I didn't have much time to writing, not only that but with the way chapter 6 turned out and with me trying to cram two years of events into one chapter killed my motivation do work on this. It only this week when iv been working on some other fanfics that I dusted of the rough chapter 7 I found it was pretty good, although some bit are a bit weird and ruins the flow of the story I had to finish it and put it up.
Sapphiros I'm sure it Garka, at least that's what it says on the wiki anyway.
I will try to keep this going GentlestCobra2
I know what you mean Mechanicalcheese Aria never normal acts that way, but after playing the Omega DLC and seeing that she has a more caring side I wanted to try it out. With this chapter however it makes far more sense as Aria and Andrew have known each other for sometime, and to be perfectly honest being so closed off like she is even Aria can get a bit lonely.
Once again Michae1ang1o you leave such a helpful comment, although i already researched the hell out of how the Omni-tool works i ended up adding my own flare to it.
And lastly Ford B tank you for enjoying it, even comments like yours makes it worth writing.
Lastly just telling you i have a Sekirei fanfic call Born to be an Ashikabi up and a Skyrim fanfic about to be put up to so please check them out as well.
Chapter 7- Eden Prime
I was back in the corridor across from me was a Batarian in blue and white armour. He was still slumped up against the wall. A crimson liquid slowly flowed from behind his head and down across his armour. His Armour was slowly becoming stained in his red blood. I moved over to find out if he was alright, that I did not murder him. I tried to check for a pulse, my fingers fell upon his neck. His body was ice cold, no one should be this cold and still alive. I killed him.
I turn to look him in the face, at the face of person I removed from the world of the living. Suddenly his face tuned towards mine looking directly into my eyes. His cold ,dark unrelenting eyes pierced though my very soul."Why did you kill me?" he asked "Why did you kill us?" a sea of faces descended from every direction and where all moving closer and closer to me.
Their voices where frightening, their cold dead faces stared back at me judging me. "Why did you kill us?" they asked repeatedly. Their voices started to blend and merge together until it was only a loud deafening noise that droned on. Like their voices they too became a wave of faces drawing closer and closer. As the wave got closer it grew in size. It was no longer a wave but a wall rapidly encircling me.
The wall inched nearer to me, it moved faster overhead, quickly blocking out the light above. Although it was dark I could still make out the thousands of faces. For a moment they were still before they all descended onto me. With their arms stretched out towards me.
They hit me with such force, the wind was knock out of me.
I wish that I was dead as I could fell all their hand rip and tear at by body. Pulling away at my flesh, blood flowed from every inch of my body. As I was pulled apart by all those that I had killed, I felt pain of so unbearably painful that I let out a scream. No sound came out of my mouth. As more of my body was removed I fell deeper and deeper into the unending darkness. I felt myself become nothing. Nothing of me was left but all my fears that followed me around.
"AAAAHHHHHH" I bolted upright screaming. It was dark but I could make out the familiar outlines of my room. There was a desk and chair ahead of me, with a terminal and piles of data pads scattered across the desk. Next to the desk was a set of lockers where I stored my personal effects. I let out a sign of relief. I was ok.
It was not easy getting over killing people it took time to come to turns with it, and now I did not let it bother me. However when I was alone, it all came back to me. I have had very few good nights sleep in the past two years because I always had the same haunting dream.
"You're not alone Andrew. It's ok I'm here with you." said Tal'kia as she materialised out of thin air next to me. She was wearing nothing but an oversized shirt with ended just above her knees. She had a soft caring smile on. It was like this almost every morning when I awoke from my nightmare.
I smiled back. "I know your always here for me. I can't get rid of you." this was our routine every time, we would joke about it to lighten the mood and then move swiftly on.
"Stop complaining I'm stuck with you and much as you are stuck with me." she said lifting herself off the bed.
"I have the right to complain once and a while"
"You do but you do it almost twice a day. Would be nice to hear you say it's lovely to see you Tal'kia, it's nice to speak to you Tal'kia. How is your day going Tal'kia? Would it hurt you to be nice for once?"
"Ok. Ok I get it be a bit nicer to you."
"Oh and another thing why can't you take me anywhere nice?"
"Excuse me I did take you to the Citadel a few times we even went to the Presidium once."
"Every time we went there it was on business. You could at least take me there when you don't have to work."
We both kept our straight faces for a moment before busting into laughter. Like I said we joked and soon I forgot about my reoccurring nightmare.
"Might as well get up I'm not going back to sleep any time soon." I required only four hours asleep a day now, which was one of many changes that were made to my body by Tal'kia. This change gave me four extra hours a day which was nice if i knew what to do with them.
I sat up and turned my body to the side. My legs hit the floor with a soft thud. "And could you please put on something more... well more"
"ahhh don't you like seeing me like this? Am I not sexy enough for you? Do you still love me?" She said in a sweet voice that sounded on the verge of crying.
I turned my head to face hers to give her a stern look, it however was smashed to pieces by the puppy dog face and sad eyes that stared back at me. Which quickly turned into an evil grin.
"This makes it worth being stuck here. Your so easy to tease." she said in a fit of childish laughter. I finally got out of bed and walked over to my personal bathroom. I splashed by face with water and wiped it down removing the sweat.
I looked at myself in the mirror. A familiar yet unfamiliar face looked back. In the two years I have been stuck in this universe my body and face had changed a bit. My face was more rigid, it didn't look bad I liked it a lot it was the unending scars crisscrossing my body that bothered me. A few bullet holes here and a large gash there. Medi-gel was all well and good but if the cut went deep enough even Medi-gel would not fix it.
I do have the option to get them removed but they are all reminders, thing that I want to remember and some things that I will not want to forget. Like the scars on my shoulder and lower back. The first ones I got when trying to escape the Blue Suns HQ, the day I came to this world. There were many others, all with a story behind them but I don't want to go into it now.
I had cleaned my face but the rest of my body was still sweaty. A nice warm shower was required and welcomed by me. I turned on the water giving it a moment to heat up before I started taking off my shirt I wear in bed. When I was pulling the shirt over my head I could feel a pair of eyes looking me up and down. The instant I removed the shirt I turned on the spot to find Tal'kia standing there still in the oversized shirt.
"No." I simply said. "Your staying out of the bathroom and your not going to scare the shit out of me by appearing out of know where when I'm showering, causing me to fall over and almost break my neck."
"Your no fun. And I didn't mean to scare you I just wanted a little peep."
"Well peep somewhere else."
"It's not as fun when no one knows your there. It gets rid of thrill of possibility of being found out. Although I might just do it." She had a evil smile on her face and a glint in her eyes. She was still for a moment before literally walking through the wall and wondering off somewhere to do whatever she did when she disappeared.
I waited for a moment just to make sure she was truly gone before finally finish undressing to have my shower, which by now had warmed up to a perfect heat. When showering I was started to think about what had happened over the years I had spent here.
It had been Two years since I was sent into the universe. For two years I had worked for Aria eliminating rebellious fractions, gathering Intel and preparing her and myself for the war to come. It didn't take long for me to get used to this place. It may be almost 170 years in the future, with alien races yet everything was simple and familiar. It's similar to when different races of humans meet, they where different on the outside but underneath they were all human. So the alien races are fundamentally similar to humans, although morals and customs where different it was easy to adjust to them. That is one of the reasons why humans have spread out into the transverse their ability to adapt, that and our unquenchable curiosity.
Apart from that it's been surprisingly fun. I've made some good friends, went to so many interesting places and new worlds. I've been to some of the big places like the Citadel, Thessia, a few of the human colonizes here in the Terminus Systems and even been back to Earth. I even went back to my real place of birth, London. London is how I remembered it from my time but with a lot of modern building and far more people and even a few alien tourists.
Tal'kia and I sat down and talked about what was happening, over the two years she hasn't really revival much to me. She has stopped me from doing some stupid things. One of which almost destroyed all hope for the galaxy, but I will tell you about it later. She finally told me why my body always felt different. She had changed me in more ways than I could imagine. My body was better in almost every way to the normal human. All my senses where enhanced, my body healed twice as fast as a normal humans and could take a lot more punishment then the norm. She said it was to give me the best advantage against the reapers.
I was able to find out that my biotics where very powerful. I could use warp, singularity, throw, lift, barrier, stasis, shockwave, biotic sphere and a new biotic power similar to the ability the Banshee's have in Mass Effect 3 I called it Biotic Teleport. It drains me very quickly so I hardly ever use it, but it has been extremely useful at times. In an instant I can be behind an enemy or can get up high onto a building or even away from fire.
I found that I could also use almost any weapon I was given with ease but I preferred using pistols and shotguns because they put me right in the middle of the action where my biotics are extremely useful.
Aria was so impressed by my abilities she has given me all the resources I needed. She spent tens of thousands of credits on my equipment and armour. While working for her, I got quite the reputation for being her lap dog. And I quickly became unpopular with other merc groups. Didn't need to do much more to piss of the Blue Suns as they already had it in for me.
Although it didn't stop people from wanting me to work from them. Although Aria was my main source of work it didn't stop me from working for other people.
I had three things I wanted when working for someone. The pay had to be good, the work didn't have me killing innocent lives and I knew that the people hiring me where trustworthy. When all three criteria are met I would do the work. The first criteria was not that important, where I could help I would do it for free but this was work and I needed to eat at the end of the day.
It didn't take me long to shower and much to my happiness Tal'kia didn't appear to scare the shit out of me. After getting out of the shower I changed into some comfortable cloths. With consisted of some camo trousers and a simple black short sleeve shirt.
Once dressed I went over to my desk and picked up one of the data pads that where on top of it. The data pad activated showing the information it had on the SSV Normandy and its building progress. The report is a two weeks old but it suggested that she was complete and they were doing their final checks. I did not know when it was going to go on its shakedown run, but it was going to be soon and I was ready for it.
I put the data pad back on top of the other data pads. It was boring in here. I made a small gesture with my left hand. Orange holograms sprang to life over my arm. It showed me that it was three in the morning. Yes I have an Omni-tool, I've been here for almost two Earth years (it's going to be two years tomorrow) so of course I'm going to have one.
The Omni-tool is sweet. Ok now the Omni-tool can be split into two groups, civilian grade and military grade. Civilian grade comes in a form of a band that is usually worn on the users non-dormant arm. It picked up impulses sent through your arm and certain hand gestures. Its like a phone, computer, Swiss army knife and all round tool mixed into one. Almost everyone had them and for good reason because they are so fringing handy. It's like using the internet, you can't live without it once you've used it.
Now military grade Omni-tools are different and far more expensive. They come in two parts the first is surgically implanted into your non-dormant hand. Its painful as... well being shot and I've been shot a lot ever since I appeared in this universe. I still get shot now even when I've got my awesome armour and shields.
So military grade Omni-tools. Because the first part it's interconnected with your nerve system meaning it works far faster than the civilian version. This also means it's far harder to steal unless they're a good hacker or they are willing to cut your arm off. It houses the main core of the Omni-tool and has most of the same functions the civilian version, but with all the cool features like hacking, scanning, decryption, repair, etc.
The second part is then attached to any and all armour or worn like the civilian version as a band. This bit it like a mod with holds all the offensive capabilities of the Omni-tool. It can hold Omni-gel, it has a micro mass fabricator, welding and repair tools. It can be programmed with all the engineering abilities like drone and overloads however there is a limit to how many it can hold at a time. I installed a few of the Tech powers, with my biotics and guns I don't normally need the tech powers. Although if I want some finesse when opening doors I find the hack most effective and if that didn't work i could always tear it to pieces with my bare hands.
With a single thought the Omni-tool disappeared. Much as it was a nice place to relax and sleep I still didn't like being here as it reminded me of my dreams. I quickly retreated out of the room into a corridor. The corridor had a few dozen other doors along its side with a larger door at one end. The rooms behind the smaller doors where filled with people still asleep.
Behind all of those doors where fellow mercs. These mercs work for me. Yes I built a merc force. I found that I couldn't do everything by myself so I put a group together. It started off as just me and two other humans Elaine Kittler and Jeffrey Steenberg. But it continued to grow in size and is still growing.
The first person to join me was Elaine. She was a pain in my rear as she worked for a rival merc group, that I was constantly working against. After are first meeting when I almost killed her, she walked up to me when I was in afterlife grabbing a drink. Much to my surprise she bought me a drink and said there were no hard feelings. We talked and talked all night getting to know each other. We each talked about are past and how we got into this line of work.
We continued this pattern many times. Trying to kill each other when trying to complete the same missions or working against each other for opposite parties. Then after we would grab some drinks and talk. After many run in's and near death experiences (more her side then mine). Eventually she told me that she hated working for her merc group, they never respected her there. With very little convincing I was able to get her to join me, it was as much the case that I hated having her as an opponent and that I now considered her a friend. She is now my second in command and a close friend, who I trust completely.
The second one to join Elaine and I was Jeffrey who we picked him up on omega. We had decided that we needed a third person in our group. On a walk around the station I meet Jeffrey fighting a group Batarians who were trying to rob him. He quickly and effectively took one of them out with a jab to the stomach. His body went limp and feel to the floor. To the Batarians it looked like Jeffrey had stabbed the Batarian with a knife but with my advanced eyesight I could easily tell that it was a syringe of some kind. The other Batarians quickly pulled out there guns to avenge their leader was death.
I let my biotics flare around me as I called to Jeffrey "Can I join in?" By then most people on Omega had heard of a crazy and powerful human with yellow biotics. All the rumours that they had heard about me (most of which were probably true) were enough to scare them away. He thanked me for helping and said that he owed me. We took him to afterlife for some drinks to celbrate, the drinks where on him, so i may have gone a bit over the top. During the wild night we had i was able to convince him to work with us, and so we became three.
Over time more joined us. Some people wanted to use my closeness to Aria, those ones where easy to discover and turn away or remove where necessary. However many saw what I could do, how effective I was and how well paid I was. So there was never a lack of recruits. A few died here and there some left but as time went on the group grew. After a while we could no longer be called a group we where a merc band now. So we had to think up a name to call ourselves, i chose the name Barghest as a joke because of the nicknames i had received as Arias lapdog, mostly to do with being her guard dog or personal bitch. With Barghest being a huge ferocious dog from old English Mitholagey. It was said that if you saw one you would die soon after the encounter with symbolized are group very well. So to my disappointment it stuck.
At present the merc force was comprised of including me twelve highly trained mercs each hand picked by me, about twenty newbies Aria forced on me and a good thirty or so techs and supports how helped run and maintain the merc base.
I silently moved down the corridor, it didn't take me long to pass all the rooms. Finding myself standing facing the large door at the end of the corridor. I moved my arm over the holo panel causing t to open with a slight squeaking. No matter what anyone had done to this door it continued to squeak every time it opened and closed. It was beyond irritating now, what didn't help was my enhanced hearing amplifying it so it ended up sounding more like a screech then a squeak.
Then it opened it exposed the room beyond. The room had a kitchen in the left hand corner of the room, kitted to the teeth with all the food and cooking utensils you would ever want. I'm not ashamed to say that I don't know what half of them do. That doesn't mean I don't know how to cook, I would say I'm an ok cook, but when you have a dozen odd races with hundreds of different cultures you do end up with a literal tonne of cooking instruments.
This was the recreational area so there were tables and chairs to eat at, some comfortable seats, a few terminals, a bar and even a proper snooker table imported from earth. It cost me a pretty penny - or credit but it was worth it. As I looked over to the kitchen, i was tempted by the thought of food but what I really wanted to do was check all my gear. I knew that soon I would be fighting Geth and wanted to recheck my gear for the eighth time.
So with that in mind I left out the only door on my left into another corridor. Again this corridor had many doors all leading to other important rooms, the one in front of me however was the one I needed to get too. I moved my hand over the holo panel which opened the door. Inside was a large room its ceiling was four meters above me. In this room we stored all are vehicle that we had, along with a few workbenches where people could work on there weapons, amour or anything else that need tinkering with. Over to my left against the wall that held the door i came through was lined with loads of lockers, each designated to a member of the group. What i was more interested in looking at was over to my right. No matter how many times i saw her she still amazed me, the Niesia. Our own little ship.
Yes you heard it we have ourselves are own ship courtesy of Aria. The Niesia is a refitted Asari frigate, although i never seen then in the game it was surprisingly elegant much like the destiny ascension was. Unlike the destiny ascension it didn't come with a huge gaping whole in the middle with you could park a cruiser in. It kind of reminded me of a fish as it rear flared out like a fishes tail fin. As well as the main body having the aerodynamic structure one would expect a fish to have. Although being pre owned with a few upgrades and lick of paint it was a beautiful little warship, its fire power would never match the human or Turian military of the same class. It was fitted with light armour, intended to be used for hit and run tactics (which is the normal Asari tactic). Which makes it a fast and agile little ship. It also had the added bonus of not conforming to any regulations with meant we could add anything within reason.
Bang. A loud and thunderous sound emanated from behind me, some sort of explosive had gone off, i however did not react or jump from the sound. If it was not followed by a chorus of gun fire then it could only be one thing. A thing that was far more common the anyone would want. I turned slowly to see a destroyed work bench, when i say destroyed the thing was as good a scrap. Standing next to the heap of twisted metal was a Salarian by the name of Jonik Leadril. He had red eyes which stood out far more then normal because of his almost white skin. He was wearing what was left of his typical overalls, They used to be a nice navy blue but now was blacked by smoke or singed.
"No, no. This wont do. To much..." Jonik murmured peaking like must salarians do, like a hyper little child. He stops rambling to see me giving him a blank stare. "...oh. Hello boss, and good morning to you."
"Iv only got two things to say to you Jonik. Firstly its Andrew, none of this boss thing, and secondly how many times to i have to tell you no experimenting with explosives this early in the morning." I complained. I had no issue with him experimenting with his explosives, being the best pyrotechnic around. It was the fact that due to his biology he needed only one hour sleep, and to him the best time to work was when everyone was not around, meaning everyone was asleep. Over the year he's been here I have gotten hundreds of complainants. "at my count this is the 54th time iv told you." i added answering my own question.
"actually this will be the 55th time Bos... I mean Andrew. Thought for a human your ability to almost acutely remember the times you have complained about this subject still surprises me." Jonik rambles on.
Before i could reply the door that i came from shot open and out of it came five, people. Two humans and three batarians all wearing very little cloths. Each one was holding various weapons, although the most common was a simple pistol. They had just woken up and within moments they where alert and ready to face the impending doom that would never happen. For all of Jonik's antics the reactions of new members who have never experienced the Salarian's early morning rituals. It was all worth it just to see them so panicked.
"What's going on! Who's attacking?.." one of the humans shouted as they group moved into the room, keeping an eye out for any enemies. The instant he saw me he stopped walking. "Sir what's happening?" the man asked with a tone of worry i his voice. I tried to not smile but it was useless, it was so amusing. There faces where priceless, filled with both fear and worry.
I let out a loud chuckle with shocked the barely dressed armed men. "don't worry, there is no one attacking. Just some crazy explosive loving idiot who finds it really funny to make a racket when others are asleep." I explained. "Now head back to bed, you still have over an hour before your shifts." at that they all slumped back to there bunks, probably to sit wake for the next hour and half before they have to get to to work.
"No matter how many times this happens i still find there reactions funny." I say moving
"It is understandable for them to react like that, thinking its an attack." he added.
"I just hope that if there is an attack, that everyone wont be sitting in bed trying to get back to sleep." I complained picking up a bit of metal from the floor. It was definitely not part of the workbench. "So what kind of contraption did you go and blow up this time?" handing the piece of wrecked metal to him.
"It was a new and improved charge for the gun you got me to make." stated the energetic Salarian taking the object from my hand and began to inspect it.
"If i didn't know you any better i would think your trying to kill me." I dead paned. "So how far along is my little project?"
The pale Salarian moved from the wrecked bench and over to a crate, where he pulled out a box. Which he proceeded to hand over to me. "I finished it a few hours ago, although i still don't know why you would want something like this. Its unstable, the thing uses an entire charge when used, and with your specifications you may be the only one to use it. I have to ask you why you would want such a destructive device?"
"Why you ask? That's easy, I need the extra fire power, soon i might be going to war." I say smiling at him.
"Is it something i should worry about?" He asks
"Not for now but i might need your unique skills later." At that he smiles. If it meant blowing something up he was in. The Salarian and i talked for a while about the new weapon he made for me. Before i moved back over to my locker to retrieve my armour and weapons. With my new weapon at hand i headed back out into the corridor, i took a left and walled all the way down to the door at the end. In the room behind the door was a firing range and training area.
When i got in there i dawned on my armour, i got this from Aria, it was a custom version of the light mercenary armour, when I say custom i really mean that it is tailored to the frequency of my nerve system allowing me to utilise my biotics without much resistance from the armour. I was also able to customize the colour of it so i went for a metallic silver as the main colour with a jut black under layer. And it looks so sweet. Once we became the Barghest's i had a few more sets made in the same colour and now it was are typical uniform.
Now that i had my armour i got out my twin pistols. I had upgraded from the little pie shoot i got off a dead Blue Suns Merc. I'm not entirely sure as what to call them because iv had them so heavy modified that they where there own guns now. With a clip size of six shoots before they have to vent means that i have to plan ahead when fighting, and make every shoot count, hence why i have two of them. But with the small clip means that they pack one hell of a punch.
I still had a about an hour before i had to get to work. God i hate paperwork, yep even in the future they have paperwork, and running an organisation means that i have to sort out every little thing that we all need. I'm so happy that I'm not working for the Alliance because with all there red tape i would probably be three maybe four times as much paperwork.
So before i would get swamped by paperwork i was going to do a little bit of fire practice. I moved over to a panel and loaded up a light training program. In a few seconds panels opened up from the walls releasing a dozen drones. They moved around the room sluggishly, occasionally glowing green for a second. "Level 1 training session, with twelve non-hostile enemies."came a synthesised voice. I watched them move around the room for a while reading myself, i pulled out my one of my pistols and one quick clean motion aimed and shoot at one of the drones. The drone i shoot had a shield on with stopped the bullet from ripping it to shreds, but with the single hit its shields where no more. The drone now had a constant blue colour to it, it moved towards the floor and away from the others.
However as soon as i shoot the first drone the others changed. They where the complete opposite of what they where moments ago. They now whizzed and darted around the room, they now had a constant red glow to them. They reminded me of flys moving sporadically, changing directions randomly making them hard to track. One of them fires an overload at me which i easily dodged. They took turns firing overloads at me which unbelievably easy to sidestep. Whenever i got a moment i fired at them ever scattering them or taking a few of them down at a time.
Once the last one went down i moved over to the panel gain. "That was a nice warm up but now lets get some good practice in." I changed some of the setting on the screen until i was happy. All the drones that hovered close to the ground launched of the floor, all holding a red glow, as more red drones appeared from the walls. "Level 8 training session, with twenty hostile enemies. Beginning in five, four, three, two, one." the voice counted down. The instant it reached one the drones began moving rapidly around the room, surrounding me. Once i was surrounded the room filled with blue light as each drone opened fire on me. Outside all that could be heard for the next five minute was gunfire and shouts
"No matter how many times i watch you fight, it still amazes me." Came a voice behind me after i had taken out the last drone. With my enhanced hearing i already knew someone was behind me and who it was. Elaine my second in command. She was wearing our standard heavy silvery armour, with her favourite assault rifle resting in her arms. She stood at 5'10 even with the heavy armour she still moved quickly and silently. Although never once has she been able to sneak up on me. She had her long brunette hair in a pony tail to keep it out of her face.
"Good morning to you to." I said sarcastically. She only replied by grinning and shrugging her shoulders. "So let me guess cant sleep after Jonik's wake up call?"
"you know it. Damn that Salarian, for once i want a week where I'm not force awake by an explosion." She complained gripping tighter to her gun. 'All i want is one night of uninterrupted sleep, and she wants a week? Some people can be so insensitive sometimes.' She moved over to the training control panel to inspect it "your the only person crazy enough to use level 8." the brunette merc observed.
"I use level 9 as well you know, don't what to get rusty." her mouth hits the floor at this.
"You crazy son of a bitch. You must be the most insane biotic human out there."
I knew of one other crazy human biotic out there in a prison somewhere. 'Damn i cant wait to meat Jack, the Collectors will be pissing in their pants at the sight of us.' I thought to myself.
" Yer you too have so much in common, your human, are super strong biotics and your both reckless. I think that sums you both up in a nutshell." Came a voice behind me. I jumped in surprise. For she was the only person who could ever sneak up on me. She made no sound and can never be seen by anyone but me. My own personal poltergeist, Tal'kia.
Elaine gave me a questioning look at me for jumping at thin air. It was well know by all that know me that, by a specialist viewpoint i was unstable at time, talking to myself, reacting to nothing and even having sudden outbursts, almost every incident is Tal'kia's fault. Most people get used to it quickly, and ignore me when i start acting a bit weird. No one but me knows about Tal'kia everyone thinks in just a bit crazy or that i have a spit personality. "Oh and people think your both crazy." she adds.
"Stop doing that!" I shouted turning to face Tal'kia
"Please don't be mad i was just having a bit of fun" she wined, pouted and put on a set of tearful eyes.
"No not happening. You have already used you allotted amount of guilt tripping today. So cut this crap." I ordered her.
Her face quickly went back to normal, deciding on another tactic. "Fine. I will stop, but i am right people think your crazy and it doesn't help when you add fuel to the fire." she says pointing at Elaine.
Although she had tried to ignore my sudden outburst it was hard not to watch your boss and good friend go from a man who you where having a light hearted conversation with to someone who's shouting and arguing with thin air.
"Your not helping me much when you decide to pop up when others are around." I complain under my breath.
"come on you like it when we fight, it keeps are relationship interesting." She had a point, although we argued a lot it really meant nothing just our little way of passing time. I however would never admit that to her.
"anyway. Sorry for that little outburst Elaine."
"Its fine don't worry about it" she replies. With that out of the way i moved over to the training panel and sent the drones back. I had enough of the shooting them for today and now wanted to test my newest toy. I clicked a few more buttons which caused a few human shaped firing targets to appear from the floor. Now that i had the targets i need the tool fr the job. I walked past Elaine and picked up the box that i got from Jonik on a bench near the control panel.
"Is that the little project you've had Jonik working on for the past month?" Elaine instantly getting interested. I didn't answer her with words and just gave her an evil grin. I opened up the case to find a large weapon inside. It was a shotgun made to certain specifications. It was far more bulker then the average shotgun you get, almost two times larger in fact. It had a large whole on the right hand side where i assumed i had to slot in a cartage.
"This is what you had him work on? That the hell is that thing?" she asked looking at the monstrous gun that i was now holding in my hands.
"Its a shotgun." I said with a straight face. I knew that she didn't mean that but i just couldn't help myself.
"I know that, what i want to know is that it does." She replies getting more irritated with me with every passing moment.
"Lets see shall we." I moved over to toward the firing range, as i approached a hip sized barrier acceded from the floor. I held the shotgun in hand and pressed a button next to where the cartage goes. A small hologram appeared above the gun showing setting options. I had a quick look thorough them all before setting it up with option titled impact rounds. After i had it set i inserted one of the cartages that Jonik generously supplied with the gun. I aimed the gun at the centre most target. Before i fired the gun i begin to activate my biotics. Elaine gave me a questioning look, trying to work out why i was using my biotics. I forced my energy from my left hand into the gun. Parts of the gun begin to light up with the same yellow, golden hue that my biotics used.
Elaine face was priceless. She was dumbfounded by what she witnessing, she had never seen a weapon absorb Biotic power like mine was dong. 'If she's surprised by this she's going to get a real kick out of it when she sees what this thing should do. Lets hope it doesn't blow up in my face like what happened with the cartage Jonik was working on.' I prayed, i heard a short click and then the gun began to hiss telling me that i had filled its capacitors to full. I steadied my aim, relaxed my mussels, and exhaled as i pulled the trigger.
The room was filled with blinding yellow light. The force of the blast even shock the room. All present, not including Tal'kia had to shield there eyes from the light, which quickly faded. Once gone i could take a look at the damage. I looked for the target that i fired at and no to surprising the target was gone, all that was left if it was the base at which it stood on, and even that was ripped to sheds. All the targets around it where shredded or filled with holes.
"What the fuck!" shouted Elaine. I was on the same boat as her, i was expecting some damage, but this thing obliterated all the targets. The furthest from the impact was one five meters way, although it was mostly unscathed it still had sections that where torn apart.
"I was expecting destruction but this is over the top."
"Over the top!? That thing has completely destroyed are training area. " she was right, the blast had not just effected the targets but had also ripped large parts of the ceiling and floor apart. "Are you now going to tell me what the fuck that thing is?" She asked.
"Its a shotgun that uses explosive slugs that can be set to explode on impact or range, with a kill radius of two meters. Then i give it some extra kick by infusing it with my biotics. I attune my biotics to the gun where its stored and then applied the the slug fractions of a second before it fires. It does this because the biotic power i put it to it is for a warp, with makes it unstable, so if it were to i don't know hit something at a few times the speed of sound it might just activate. The warp thus increasing the death radius by another another meter and a half. At least that's what its specs specified, but it looks like its a little bit more powerful then it should be. Jonik probably didn't calculate correctly the effect my biotics had on the shell. " i explained.
"A little bit? That thing could punch a whole in the side of a dreadnought. Who the hell are you planning to use that on."
"Geth." I replied honestly
"Geth? No ones seen the in years and you think your going to face then? Seriously I sometimes wonder why i even bother asking." Elaine moves to the door to exit before looking back at me. "Well that ever your up to , iv always got your back." after that she left, going off to do whatever she did this early i the morning.
I too followed soon after as training would be almost imposable now, so i made my way back to my room with Tal'kia in toe. On my way back i had some run ins with some other early risers before being able to get back to my room. Before i could start on my pile of paper work i need to get my firing range repaired. After an three hour of Omni-calls and paperwork i was finally nearing the end of a weeks work of work when my Omni-tool started to bleep signifying someone was calling me.
A quick flick of my wrist produced a miniature scale holographic Aria. "Andrew, we need to talk. Afterlife thirty minutes." As quickly as she appeared she disappeared. She had a tendency to do this, so her behaviour was not surprising in the least. She never wanted to talk about important stuff over a call, for you never knew who could be listening in.I still felt that something big might be going down. I had yet to remove may armour so i was ready to head to Afterlife intermediately.
I walked up the stairs to Aria's private lounge in Afterlife. Tal'kia followed close behind me. None of the guards gave me a second look as they knew who I was and that I was not threat. Aria was talking over her Omni-tool to someone, I did not care for what was being said so I waited patently for her to finish.
"So why do you think we're here?" Asked Tal'kia
"I don't know. Maybe another mission to strengthen her hold in the Terminus Systems. Although i have a feeling that today might be that. day " I had a feeling as well that today was that today. The SSV Normandy was finished being built a few weeks ago.
"Andrew." Aria calling my name pulled my attention back to her. She gestured for me to sit down and sit I did. She waited for me to sit down before talking. "you never cease to amaze me. Your hunch on keeping an eye on Eden Prime for a possible place for Prothean tech."
"Let me guess you want me to go it and get it before the council can get it back to the Citadel?" I asked already knowing that was what she wanted me to do.
Aria looked at me with a smile. "You know exactly want i want, and you can get it for me. Its times like these that I remember why i haven't killed you. Even if you irritate me to no end you still get me results. And I always like my results." she said her smile growing.
"And at time i wonder how you ever ran this place without me." I add with rewarded me with a scowl from Aria, i continued unaffected by it. " I bet there's a catch, probably involving a Spectre, sent to get the Prothean tech?" I could help but say that just to see the reaction she would give me.
Shock reached the surface of Aria's face before quickly disappearing again probably put back into the box of emotions Aria deemed useless. "Sometime you know way to much information Andrew. You don't want the Shadow broker coming after you because of that. But your right, your going to have a problem with a Turian Spectre by the name of Nihlus and there is something else. The ship he will be travelling on is..." Aria complained about my knowledge, when she started to mention the ship i had to but in.
"SSV Normady, Alliance navy ship, frigate class of Human-Turian design. It utilizes a new type of stealth system allowing it to move around almost undetected for hours at a time. She is Captained by one David Anderson and his XO is Commander Tanya Shepard. This will be the Ship shack down run." I loved these moments when i had Aria speechless. "Don't look that surprised, iv been keeping tabs on the Normandy for some time now."
This time the shock stayed for a bit longer before. "Andrew. Why am i always the one being surprised? Will there ever be a time when I can surprise you." She commented placing a hand on her head still trying to collect herself.
"There might come a time, but i doubt it will be any time soon." I replied knowing there was very little she could ever say that would surprise me. On the other hand the women who aimlessly flouted above Aria's could easily surprise me. At which she did.
"I'm sure that when she tells you she's carrying your child, you'll be surprised." Tal'kia suggested while she pocked her finger into Aria's face, where it just went right though her.
If i had a drink in my mouth i would have spit-take, but Tal'kias comment did end up causing me to drop my jaw. My mind then begin to wonder the implication of a child would mean that... I pulled myself out of my daydream or delusions , hell one of the two. I found Aria giving me a puzzled look. 'seriously Tal'kia don't put idea's like that in my head.' I thought knowing that she was listening in on my thoughts.
"Those ideas where already there i just... Helped bring them to the surface. I know you want to see what she looks like under all these cloths. I'v seen her undress so, do you want me to describe it to you." Tal'kia spoke in a sultry voice. It took all my willpower to keep up my poker face to these comment. True i had thought about Aria in that way on occasion, any warm blooded man would, but I knew nothing would ever come from barking up that tree.
"You better get you ass moving otherwise the Spectre is going to beat you to my Prothean artefact." Aria was right i need to get moving.
I don't know what possessed me to say what i was about to say, maybe it was Tal'kias comment or maybe she was finally starting to rub off on me. "You only say that so you can watch my ass as i leave." Yep Tal'kias rubbing off on me.
"Bold Andrew very bold. I would have never expected you to flirt so shamelessly with Aria." Tal'kia said clearly surprised and interested in my sudden forwardness.
"You do have a nice ass, so get off it and start using it and maybe it can admire it as you leave." she replied with a barely noticeable playful smile on her face.
When i said it would 'There might come a time, but i doubt it will be any time soon what i meant to say was there might come a time, and it will be in a minute. For now she had surprised me, never in a million years would i have thought Aria would flirt with me. It was the end of the world, the Reapers where already here and had indoctrinated her. It was the only explanation. I was just dumb struck by her comment that i was left speechless.
"Iv finally surprised you and also found a way to shut you up. My this is turning out to be a wonderfully day." Although she made it out to be a joke she still held her playful smile.
I couldn't stay here any longer, Tal'kia was bad enough but if i had Aria teasing me as well then my façade would surely crumble. "Ok I should be going, before i end up losing your prize." I said knowing full well that she would never get her hands on it. I got up from the couch and walked away from Aria. Tal'kia followed me but did so backwards so she could watch Aria.
"You know she is actually watching you ass now. Dang Andrew she's licking her lips." Although i knew she was pulling my chain i had to look back, curiosity was a hard thing to overcome. I didn't know that was more surprising, the fact Aria was actually licking her lips, the fact that Tal'kia was actually not messing with me or the fact that when Aria saw me catch her licking her lips that she looked away from me. I was unsure but i could of sworn she was blushing ever so slightly.I however knew that i had to go, this momentary bit of weakness from Aria will be followed by an increased amount of aggression. So i got out of there as fast as possible.
Half an hour after my visit with Aria, i was rounding up my team of merry men ready to take from the rich and give to a ruthless pirate queen. The ship was already when i got back to back, having the sense to call ahead and get the ball rolling. It wasn't long before the ship was out and heading for the Omega Relay. It was only now that it dawned on me. It was now the beginning of everything, the past two years had been leading up to this, i was about to help start a war with the most advance race out there. Its so funny how these things work in about an hour and a half i went from doing paperwork to flying towards a Reaper. Man you got to love Mondays.
