FITZ'S POV
"I didn't think you'd be back tonight" Mom said as I unlocked the door that night.
"I'm giving Liv her space"
"After 12 years you think she needs space?"
"Well i don't know what do anymore Ma! I'm trying here! It's harder than i thought, she's changed so much"
"Just show her you love her, eventually she'll let you back in. This whole weekend thing is a great start"
"Yeah?"
She nodded "And someday i expect more grand babies"
"Let's just get Liv to date me first" i chuckled
"Right of course" she laughed
"I'm proud of you honey"
"Thanks mom" She coughed slightly "you feeling okay?"
"I'm good really" she smiled "night honey"
"Night"
(Break)
"Hello" I nodded as i pulled open the door at OPA after Tom had cleared the floor. Quinn shifted uncomfortably
"Liv is in with a client right now" she opened the door to the conference room for me. Liv waved as i looked over at her office.
"I'm here for good Quinn" i said bluntly as she stood awkwardly about to leave. She turned back towards me and sat down across from me.
"If you're here for good i guess you should know that when you left she thought she wasn't good enough for anyone, she slept around just to make herself feel better, i literally had to drag her out of her bed and put her in the shower. She didn't stop crying for months and when she finally did she couldn't even hear your name. She's guarded and she's limited with people she trusts so don't fuck it up!" She stood calmly and walked away as Liv came into the conference room.
"Ready to go?" Liv asked as i stood shocked at what Quinn had just told me.
"Fitz? You okay?"
"Yes" i shook my head "let's go"
"Hey Tom"
"Ma'am"
Liv scrunched up her face "Liv is fine"
"Liv" he nodded and helped her into the SUV.
"Did i do something wrong?" Liv asked as we got into the apartment. I had been quiet the whole ride there. She took off her heels and looked right at me
"Why don't you change? I'll get us some wine"
"At 1 in the afternoon?"
"You're saying no to wine?"
She rolled her eyes and went towards her bedroom. A few minuets later she came out of the room in a pair of silk bottoms and a white cardigan, her hair tucked behind one of her ears as she sat down on the chair and i took a spot on the couch.
She folded her hands and looked at me.
"Quinn told me about how you were after you went back home" i started and watched her shift her legs
"Look, i took a leap and told you how i felt and you didn't feel the same-"
"I did, i was just being an asshole"
"I took the leap and you said no and i just.. It changed how i saw people, how i trusted them. What you did changed me" she said honestly "What happened with Mellie? You said you aren't seeing anyone so what happened?"
"Liv, she is the last person we should be talking about. I don't want to keep hurting you"
"If you want me to move on i need to know what happened. If it was worth it" she started gulping her wine
"I broke things off with Mellie about 6 months after you hung up the phone that night."
"Why?"
"I didn't want her, i wanted something that was as your words were "a quick fuck". I knew you were the real deal and i couldn't.. I was scared to lose you. I has just lost Pops i didn't think i could handle it if something went wrong so i pushed you away and it was the biggest mistake i ever made. I wasted so much time when we could have been great, i'm so sorry Livvie. With all my heart i'm sorry for hurting you, for being a coward. So sorry"
We were both staring at each other with tears leaving our eyes until she got up and bent down at my knees squatting.
"No more apologizing, let's start fresh"
"Fresh?"
"Apparently there's nothing i won't forgive you for" she smiled "now are you going to kiss me or what?"
I leaned forward and watched her smile as i pressed my lips against hers softly not wanting to push her. She pulled back and looked at me as someone knocked on the door.
"That's probably Aves" She got up and wiped her eyes before getting the door.
"Hi mommy!" She smiled but made a b line right for me.
"Why are you crying?" Mom asked narrowing her eyes
"Nothing, i'm fine"
"You sure?"
"Yes" Liv smiled and opened the wider so she could come in.
"I have an appointment" and shot me a knowing look. "Have fun, see you next weekend Fitzgerald"
"Bye mom"
"Bye Nana Em!" Avery ran over and kissed her before standing by Liv's side as she locked the door
"Did you have fun baby?"
"Yes, Nana Em said i was po.. Po-.. Nice"
"Polite?" I offered
"Yeah, that was it!" Avery grinned and ran back over to me sitting on my lap.
Liv helped her change out of her dress into some sweats.
"Okay Aves, what do you want to do for your birthday party?"
She furrowed her eyebrows "mine? What do you do? I didn't have one before"
Liv looked at her sadly "Well, your birthday is on a saturday this year so we can have people over all your friends and family like Uncle Teddy and Mase come over and celebrate your birthday"
"And you get presents and a cake" I grinned at the thought of Liv freaking out because of the sugar in the cake
"Like christmas?" She asked
"Kind of but it's all for you"
"Wow" Avery whispered leaning against me.
"Do you want to do a theme party?"
"Or we could go out somewhere too" i reminded Liv
"Like disney land?" Avery's eyes lit up
"Do you want to do your birthday at disney land?" Liv asked worried since it was last minute
"Maybe next year" Avery smiled "Can we do a princess party?"
"Sure, anything you want baby" Liv smiled asked Avery what friends she wanted to invite from school. It ended up being just the whole class.
"Hello?" I answered my personal cell phone as it started lighting up "Sir, you need to come to California immediately"
"I'm due to leave in a few-"
"The sooner the better" Cyrus hung up and i practically glared down at my phone
"Everything okay?" Liv asked as i listened to Avery and her talk about everything.
"It seems i'm needed in California"
"But you said till bedtime!" Avery whined
"I'm sorry Aves"
"You're always leaving for work, you don't want to be here!"
"Of course i do but-"
She was already down the hall and locking her be droom door. Liv winced as the door slammed shut.
"I don't want to leave her upset"
"She'll be okay" Liv offered with no enough confidence in her voice.
"Liv"
"You should go, it's okay" she stood "see you next weekend" she hugged me and walked down the hallway before getting Avery to open her door. I waited and waited but no one came out so eventually i left.
