Ellie's POV

"So what do we do now?" I asked. We had just landed in a park and had absolutely no idea what to do.

"Lets find a bench and sleep. I'm tired." Leo yawned and started walking towards some benches.

"No, no, no, no. We are not sleeping on benches. Absolutely not, we're finding a motel or something." I was not going to sleep on a bench especially one where past hobos had slept. Ew.

"We don't have a lot of money El, just lay down on your jacket or something."

"Nope, you can sleep on a bench, but I'm not going to subject myself to that." I walked away from him and took out my phone. I was going to find a place for us to sleep if it killed me.

I unlocked my phone and opened up safari. I typed in 'Cheap motels in New York' and got several results. I clicked on one that seemed decent and in our price range. It wasn't very far of a walk and we could afford one night.

"Hey! What're you doing?" Leo shouted. He grabbed the phone out of my hands and threw it across the park.

"Hey! That phone cost a lot of money!"

"What do you think you're doing?" He yelled.

"Um looking for a place to sleep?" What was this guy's problem?

"How can you be so stupid? Demigods can't use phones!" He shook my shoulders before throwing his hands up in the air.

"Excuse me? I'm stupid? You're the one who never bothered to tell me. I mean come on! I have, like no idea what I'm doing here!" I shouted back at him.

"You know what? Sorry ok? What's done is done. Now let's get a move on."

"Ok." I whispered. The rest of the walk to the motel was silent for the most part with the occasional cough or sniffle.

"Is this it?" Leo asked. The motel looked nothing like it had in the picture. The vacancy sign was lit, but there were a couple letters that would flicker now and then. The beige paint had started to chip and there was some graffiti on one of the room doors. It would've passed off as deserted, but there were a few cars in the parking spaces.

"Yeah, but it looked way better in the picture."

"Let's just check in." We walked through the door that had a sign hanging on it that said, "Check in Here" There was a little bell that rang signaling that someone had entered. An old man sat behind the counter filling out some papers.

"Excuse me? Um, we'd like to check in?" I cautiously made my way to the front with Leo in tow. The old man's head snapped up and he gave us a bone-chilling grin.

"Ah yes, what size room would you like? Perhaps a honey moon suite?" The creep raised his eyebrows suggestively.

"No thanks, can we get the cheapest room you have?" Leo stepped forward and pushed me slightly behind him.

"Alright if you insist." The old man turned to his dinosaur of a computer and started clicking away at his keyboard. He turned around and took a key off of one of the many hooks and picked up a large binder.

"I'm going to need you to sign in please." I picked up the pen and quickly scribbled down our names.

"That'll be $150 please." The old man opened the register and I looked at Leo. I pulled him away from the counter. He gave me the 'Dude what the fuck look.'

"That's going to cost us more than half of the money we have!" I whisper yelled.

"It's fine we're only staying for one night anyways, now come on before he gets suspicious."

I took out the wad of cash and handed it to the man in exchange for the key to our room. I muttered a quick thank you before exiting with Leo. We had gotten room 102 on the upper floor. We climbed up the stairs and started looking for our room. 108, 107, 106, 105, 104, 103 and at last room 102.

Leo slid the key into the look and pushed the door open. It made an eerie noise. He flicked the light on and walked into the room.

"It seems clean enough." I muttered. The room looked better than I expected, but it had a musky smell to it. I looked around the room when I realized, there's only one bed. Oh my gods this cannot be happening.

"Whew I'm beat." Leo yawned and stretched. "I'm gunna hit the hay, night Els." He flopped onto the bed and laid down for a while.

"Wait, there's only one bed. I'll sleep on the floor if you want." He suggested.

"No it's fine, we'll just have to share right? It's only for a night anyway." I hastily pulled off my shoes and crawled into the covers beside him. He felt warm. He threw an arm over me and muttered a quick goodnight.

"Goodnight Leo." I whispered.

I was running. From what? I don't know. All I knew was that if they caught me I was dead. I pumped my arms by my side, my feet barely touching the ground. My chest rose and fell quickly and my breaths were coming out more labored. I didn't turn around for fear that they would catch up to me. Out of nowhere I heard a cackling laugh.

"You can run but you can't hide." The person laughed evilly. Ugh what kind of a line was that? What were we in? Some kind of a cheesy eighties horror film?

Suddenly my dream switched. I was now standing somewhere tropical. The ocean waves sprayed mist on my face and the ground rumbled. There was smoke rising out of a volcano and it looked like it was about to erupt any second. I searched frantically for Leo, but he was nowhere to be seen. I felt like walls were closing on my and I started to panic.

"I win." The voice cackled menacingly and I woke with a start. I was breathing heavily and my hair clung to my sweaty face. I looked around for Leo frantically.

"Hey, hey. It's ok you're alright." Leo was now awake and he was holding me by my shoulders. He smoothed down my hair and rubbed my back.

"It was just a nightmare, go back to bed. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow." I nodded and laid back down on my side. It was just a dream right?
