Ellie's POV
I woke up with my hair flying in all directions and with my clothes all wrinkled. I smoothed down my long, dark mane in a lame attempt to somewhat tame it. My legs were tangled up in Leo's and his arm was thrown sloppily over me.
He looked quite adorable as he slept. His chocolaty curls were in disarray atop of his head and he had a little bit of drool on his cheek. His arm that wasn't holding me was strewn over the small table and his fingers would occasionally tap something.
I carefully peeled off the covers on me, lifted his arm off of me and untangled my legs from his. I tiptoed across the plain room and picked up my backpack. I rummaged around for the bag of toiletries I had brought and a change of clothes.
The bathroom itself was quite small in size. It was only a shower with a sink and a toilet. I made sure the door was locked behind me before stepping into the shower and turning on the showerhead.
The knots in my muscles started dissolving as soon as the hot water hit my back. I scrubbed off all of the dirt from yesterday and made sure my hair wasn't tangled before I stepped out into the cold air. I wrapped the towel around me tighter trying to avoid getting goose bumps all over.
Steam was swirling all around the bathroom and had fogged up the mirror. I got my hand and tried to clear it so I could see myself. I looked into the mirror and shrieked when I saw my self, or what seemed to be me. My reflections looked sleep deprived, my eyes were sunken in and my skin was slowly getting even paler. My hair look matted down and my face had dirt smudged on it.
I splashed some water on my face before rubbing my eyes. I cautiously lifted my head and looked back at the mirror. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion; I looked like I had last night, completely normal. I let out a sigh and began to change into my clothes. Maybe I wasn't cut out for this quest thing; it was making me go crazy and it had only been one day.
After I finished getting ready, I walked out of the bathroom to wake up Leo. He was already up and had managed to find us some breakfast. He was still in his clothes from last night and he looked sleepy.
"Hey, where'd you get the food?" I asked while I peeked inside the bag.
"I looked around and found a small fast food place. I hope you like burgers for breakfast." I nodded and pulled one out of the bag before devouring it in five big bites.
"Wow, um ok. Well if you want there's more in the bag along with some fries and I got some water bottles so, yeah. Uh I'm going to go shower now." He backed away slowly and pointed at the bathroom door. I nodded and turned my attention back to the amazing food in front of me.
After I finished eating, I walked across the room and gathered my things. As soon as Leo came out we were going to try to at least make it to Queens. I didn't want to call Hunter back so I decided that we would have to use public transportation to get there.
The bathroom door opened and Leo came out with some steam trailing behind him.
"You ready to go?" I asked him as I slung my backpack over my shoulder.
"Yeah, let's go sign out." I followed him out the door and walked with him to the manager's office. I stayed behind because the old guy was a creep and I did not want him to give me that toothy grin again. I got bored so I started picking at my nails, which had grown quite long. I kicked my feet back and forth as I waited. I began to grow impatient as 5 minutes turned to 10 and those 10 turned into 15. 'What's taking so long?' I thought.
I opened the door and the bell above my head rang. There was no sign of Leo inside. The old man was still at the front desk scribbling away in his notebook. Nothing seemed off about the place, the furniture was where it had been the night before and the paintings weren't crooked at all.
"Have you seen Leo?" I asked the old man. He looked up at me and furrowed his brow.
"I'm sorry, who are you talking about?" He looked at me before going back to writing in his notebook.
"The guy who was with me last night, I checked in with him. Remember?" I walked up to the front desk and looked at the sign out sheet. Leo had signed his named in the sign out column.
"Oh that young boy, he signed out and took off." He looked at me sympathetically, "My apologies, you are such a beautiful young girl and you didn't deserve this." He reached across the desk and stroked my cheek.
"Yeah I'm going to go now." I said as I backed away. I was making my way out the door when I heard some muffled screams. I looked back at the old man to see if he had heard. He kept writing as he had done while I talked to him. I was about to leave once and for all when I heard the scream again. This time I was able to decipher what they had said.
"Ellie, help!" It was Leo and he was calling my name. I turned around and noticed that this time the old man was gone, and there was a door behind the desk swinging like someone had run through it.
"Aww man, did this really have to happen?" I groaned and ran through the door pulling off my ring as it turned into a sword.
