Chapter Twenty-Four (This is War)
"Get down!" Coulson screamed, dodging an attack from a Centipede soldier. "Avoid the soldiers at all costs!"
"I was planning on it!" Fitz screamed, running away from two soldiers.
Ward and May took aim and crossed off four soldiers with their guns, and they stayed down. But four more soldiers came out of nowhere to take their place.
"Damn!" Ward hissed. "They just keep coming!" He continued to fire, but the soldiers were either replaced or they just got back up.
"Jemma!" Fitz called, hiding behind a wall. "Jemma, where are you?"
"I'm right here, Fitz!" Simmons exclaimed, appearing right beside him. "This is crazy. They just keep coming."
"Skye, watch out!" Coulson yelled, gunning down a solider that was heading right for her.
"You will not defeat me." The Clairvoyant echoed from the middle of the field. "You are clearly outnumbered. Give up now and give me the girl!"
"We will not!" Coulson screamed back, dodging another soldier's attack.
"Fine, but you will die in the end."
Bullets continued to fly in the air for a good five minutes. The soldiers continued effortlessly to try and kill the team. Ward, May, Coulson, and Skye tried to take out as many soldiers as they could while making sure that Fitzsimmons were safe.
The Clairvoyant soon realized that he was running low on soldiers and that he would soon have to intervene, so we went ahead and did so.
He stepped forward and raised a hand, signaling for the soldiers to stop attacking. They obeyed and the Clairvoyant stepped towards the team, "My soldiers aren't getting anywhere with you, so I guess that I will have to do this all by myself."
He lurched forward and grabbed Coulson by the neck and lifted him into the air.
Coulson squirmed, flailing his legs in the air, struggling to breath.
"Make the choice now." The Clairvoyant said. "Give me the girl, or I snap this man's neck and he drops to the ground dead."
Coulson squirmed even more.
The team hesitated. They didn't want Skye to fall into the hands of the Clairvoyant, but they didn't want Coulson to be killed.
"Make the choice now." he looked in the direction of Fitzsimmons' hiding place. "And you two weaklings need to come out and show yourselves."
Fitzsimmons slowly came out and rejoined Ward, May, and Skye.
"Make the choice, or the man dies."
Skye took a deep breath, "I'll go."
"What?" May asked.
"Skye, no. There has to be another way." Ward quickly said.
"Coulson doesn't need to be killed." Skye replied. "And this looks like that this is the only way for him to live." She stepped towards the Clairvoyant. "I'll go with you."
The Clairvoyant laughed and threw Coulson to the ground. "That's more like it. I knew that you wouldn't want him to be killed."
Coulson coughed violently and weakly stood up, "Skye, you don't have to go with him. You know what he will do to you."
"Shut it." She has already made her choice. And I know that I will get what I need from her."
"Yeah, but did you know that this will happen?" Skye asked.
A gunshot rang out and the Clairvoyant clutched his chest. The team looked to see a smoking gun in Skye's hand.
"Where's your clairvoyance now?" she asked.
"No," The Clairvoyant croaked, falling to the ground. "I cannot die. I need to live."
"Live for what?" Fitz asked coldly. "So you can kill more innocent lives?"
"No, I. I cannot die. This isn't how it was meant to be! This isn't how I foresaw it!" he screeched.
"Then you saw wrong." Ward stated.
The blood continued to pool out onto the ground, "I cannot die… I… will… be… immort…al…" The Clairvoyant took his last breath and the soldiers fled, not knowing what to do.
Skye ran over to the team.
"You outsmarted him. You outsmarted the man that kept outsmarting us." Coulson said.
"Is that even possible?" Simmons asked.
"I guess so." Ward responded.
"Well," May said.
"At least you are safe." Coulson said.
"At least we are all safe." Skye corrected him. "We all could've died."
"Yeah, that."
Skye looked back to the Clairvoyant's dead body, "So, now what?"
Author's Note: I don't own AoS, Marvel does. Sorry for such the long wait, I've been lazy and trying to finish another story I've been doing. And I know the battle could've been better and could've lasted longer, but I suck at writing them. The Clairvoyant is now dead, now what? ONE MORE CHAPTER LEFT.
