15 years in the future
Sarah
I picked her up from school swinging the backpack onto my back.
"I know the alphabet... Mrs. Newheart taught me today" she said proudly and I smiled.
" You do? " She nodded happily.
"ABCE..." She started and I laughed.
"Oh you are so close." I said buckling her into her child's seat and putting her backpack next to her.
"What comes after C?" I asked starting to drive home.
"E.. mommy I already said that. Silly" she said and I laughed silently. She's so stubborn.
"No honey it's ABCD then E" I corrected her and she crossed her arms.
"No you're wrong..." She said and I just accepted defeat. That kid might not know the alphabet ever.
A little less than an hour later Mariana came home.
"I'm sorry I got caught up at work "she said kissing me which got our daughter to shield her eyes and say eww.
"oh just you wait munchkin you will be kissing boys before you know it" she said and she gave us a disgusted look.
"No boys have cooties" she said matter-of-factly and we both laughed.
"Good girl. Now don't you forget that" she said kissing her cheek.
"Did you have a good day at school?" She asked.
"Yes... guess what?l" she said excitedly, her little body practically shaking she was so excited.
"hmm... a wild Dragon got loose?" she joked.
"Silly mommy dragons aren't wild anymore" Aliza said and me and Mariana exchanged a look. Some of the things she says are hilarious.
"of course they're not I was testing you" she said catching herself and I tried not to laugh. Aliza shook her head to me and I couldn't help but giggle. Mariana shot me an annoyed look and I stopped immediately.
"I learned my ABC's today" she said.
"you did, prove it" she challenged joking.
"A... B... C...E...F..." She started and I gave her a look of ' don't bother'.
"Very good sweetie" she said and Aliza got up and went to play.
"So why wasn't I notified that they changed the alphabet? I could have sworn D came after C." She said and I shook my head.
"I don't know but shes insisting that she was taught it that way" I explained.
"wow that generation is going to be smart" she remarked kissing me.
"Both our kids are doomed" I said putting my hand over my stomach.
"Dont say that we still have some hope in this one" she said and I rolled my eyes.
"So how was your day?" She asked. I groaned.
"That good, huh?" She said laughing. I work with parents who don't really know how to be good parents and teach them how to be better at it. I work with a lot of people who have barely anything to give their kids because they threw their life's away with drugs and alcohol and all that.
"I had a three year old grab my boob today" I said which isn't that rare.
"Well we know what daddy is doing." She said and I shook my head.
"Yeah of course he is..."I said and my phone rang.
"Hello" I said.
"Is this Sarah Roberts?" A voice I don't recognize asked.
"Yes and who are you?" I said politely. Giving Mariana a weird look. She took in a deep breath as if preparing herself for something.
"I'm Sierra Roberts and I found your letters" she said and I thought I heard her wrong.
"What?" I asked just to double check.
"I'm your sister, Sierra" she said and I didn't know how to react. I thought that by now I would never see her again.
"Honey, what's wrong?" She asked getting concerned when she saw the tears in my eyes.
"How did you find me?" I asked.
"Jess helped me"she said. I never lost contact with Jess. Within the last fifteen years she has told me stories and showed me pictures of Sierra, which made it harder, so I knew she was alright.
" I turned eighteen two days ago and officially they can't tell me what to do anymore. I want to meet you" she said. I couldn't help the smile that came to my face.
"I would love to meet you... Im free tommorow maybe we could arrange to meet somewhere. Is this your cellphone number?" I said and Mariana looked confused as she watched Aliza.
"oh no this is a friends... but I practically live here so if you call her back there's good chance I will be able to talk to you."She said.
"ok well could you meet me at the coffee shop in your town at like noon" I said knowing that tommorow is a Saturday so she wouldn't be in school.
"Sure I could do that... I'll see you tomorrow then" she said and I said good bye. Once I was off the phone she gave me a weird look with Aliza following her into the kitchen.
"That was Sierra" I explained and she gave me a surprised look.
"Sierra?" She asked and her silent question was are you ok.
"Yeah apparently Jess helped her find me. Im meeting her tomorrow at that coffee shop." I explained.
"Do you want me to come with you?" She asked giving her a coloring book and crayons to entertain her as she makes supper.
"No I'm good, it should be just me besides someone has to watch Aliza" i said.
"Grams" Aliza said and I laughed. Mariana pointed to her and nodded her head.
"Grams... they always love to babysit" she said.
"I'll be fine, but thank you."
"No Grams?" She asked disappointed. Just like any grandparents they spoil her and her cousins rotten.
"No I have work tomorrow, sweetie so you are still going" she said.
"Yay grams house" she said and we laughed.
Mariana- the next morning
I got together a bag of stuff so Aliza wouldn't get bored, highly unlikely with my moms, but still.
"You going to be ok, baby?" i asked.
"Yes mommy" she said and i laughed.
"I know you are going to be ok, princess i was actually asking you're mom" i clearified. She giggled.
"Mommy not a baby" she said.
"You're very right" i said braiding her hair.
"I'll be fine, I'm looking forward to it. Besides Jess has kept me updated to the day practically, I know so much about her she might think i have stalked her.I'll call you afterwards" she said and i smiled.
"Oh i can't pick up until after three but i'll pick up as soon as i can" i explained. Once we both got ready and I kissed Sarah goodbye we left and drove to my moms house.
"You're here" lena said hugging Aliza.
"Grammy" she said happily.
"How's my favorite granddaughter?" She asked.
"Grammy I'm your only granddaughter" she said and I laughed.
"Yeah all the more reason for you to be my favorite" she said.
"Aliza!" Stef said coming out and picking her up.
"Nice to see you too moms" I joked.
"How are you" mama asked.
"I'm good, where's Luke?" I asked looking around for my little brother.
"At friends he didn't know Aliza was coming over" Mom explained.
"How's Sarah?" Mama asked.
"She's good... Guess who has returned" i said and they looked confused.
"Who?"
"Sierra" I said and they looked confused.
"Really?"
"Yea she is going to meet her around noon" I said.
"I have to go... Aliza give mommy a hug, behave for Grammys...moms don't spoil her... Bye love you" I said hugging all three of them and then leaving.
Sarah-flashback
I sat down at the table putting in some head phones and turning the music up so i didn't have to face the silence. Mariana has her appointment, which I unfortunately missed and i know i'm going to get hell for missing it, but it's too late to go now. I took out a piece of paper and pen and began to write:
Dear Sierra,
Happy 13th birthday, i can't believe you are already a teenager. You're so beautiful, and now i realize that this has to seem like i'm stalking you, i promise i'm not. I asked Jess to update me on you're life so i know you are ok. ...'
Present
I walked in and looked around for her and found her sitting alone at a table with a cup of coffee. I took a deep breath and tried to push away my nerves. I didn't want to admit this to Mariana but i'm actually extremely anxious to meet her again, well nervous and exicited.
"Sarah?" she asked smiling. I nodded. I know i have seen pictures of her but in real life i just can't believe how she's grown up to be a beautiful girl.
"Wow youve grown up" i said and felt like slapping myself at how pathetic that sounds.
"Yeah Ive heard that, that happens in fifteen years" she said and i laughed nervously. I can tell she's nervous too.
"Yeah um ive missed you" i said and she smiled. "Thanks for finding me"
"Yeah i grew up hearing stories about you and on two days before my eighteenth birthday i found the letters you wrote me that she was planning on giving me on my told me you were writing me letter and out of curiousity i spent like two weeks searching for them but couldn't find them" she explained.
"Oh i didn't give them to her until a couple of days before you turned eighteen they stayed in a secret drawer in my house" i said and than ordered my coffee remembering to get decaf.
"I figured… so decaf?" she asked. I haven't told Jess that i'm pregnant yet so there is no way Sierra would know. After all i just figured out a couple of days ago and only me and Mariana know.
"Oh yeah i'm pregnant… but no one knows about it yet so don't tell Jess" i explained and she smiled excitedly.
"Oh my god… congratulations. So no one knows that you are pregnant? Not even the wife?" she asked and i laughed.
"No the wife knows but just her. Can we please call her Mariana? The wife sounds like a horror movie title." i said and she laughed.
"The Wife… a stereotypical good wife and mom goes balistic and goes after her family starting with her abusive husband" she said sound like the voice on movie promos as she waved her hands around to showcase her words. I laughed my nerves disappearing.
"Yeah i'm pretty ive seen that plot in like way to many movies" i said and it normally is on me and Marianas Bad Movie day.
"Yeah really… so Aliza is adorable by the way" she said.
"Yeah and she knows it too. She's exactly like a little Mariana" i said and she laughed.
"So i'm going to assume she's Mariana biological daughter" i nodded.
"Yeah she is and she is her spitting image. Ok, enough about me, tell me about you" she sighed and laughed.
"I thought you were stalking me?" she said. "Are you admitting to slacking lately?"
"Hey i have a family and a full time job, I can't afford to stalk you" i said smiling.
"Yeah well maybe we could meet up again so you won't have to stalk me. I would love to meet you're family" she announced.
"Oh i'm sure they would love that. Aliza would love you, i swear that kid makes a friend everywhere she goes. Sorry i'm rambaling… tell me about you" i said knowing if i got myself started i could go on and on about her and i want to learn more about Sierra.
"Well what don't you know… um… i have no idea what you don't know" she admitted. Her phone rang and she groaned.
Sierra
I can't believe that I'm actually meeting with Sarah. I have grown up wondering if I will ever meet the mysterious Sarah who supposibly raised me.
"Dad I'm with Jack" I explained.
"I know you are with Sarah" he explained.
"Dad..." I said panicked.
"Don't worry I won't tell your mom. You know how she can be, you have every right to meet your sister." He said surprising me. He was always more laid back then mom but I didn't think he would be laid back about this.
"Really?" I asked surprised.
"Yes she's you're sister and she helped raise you when you're a toddler, of course you should meet her." he said and his voice sounded regretful, like he wish he would have voiced his opinion fifteen years ago. I think recently he is realizing that he should have stopped things from ending the way it did and is starting to accept Sarah's "life choices". At least part of him wants to make amends with Sarah.
"Thanks dad" i said smiling.
"Of course well i'm going to let you go so you can talk to her. Talk to you later, kiddo" he said and i can tell he's hesitating to ask something.
"Do you want me to ask if she will meet with you? Me and Jess will be there too." i asked and than realized i put him in an awkward postion. If he didn't want to he can't say no without seeming mean.
"Oh… um i'm sure she wouldn't want to…" he said awkwardly. I can tell he wants to but is certain that Sarah wouldn't give him another chance, but i feel like she would. I looked at Sarah who has stared surprised at what she's hearing.
"I'm fine with it if he is" she said after a while of hesitation.
"She's fine with it, so this friday mom works late want to meet up?" I asked.
"Uh yeah" he said and than after goodbyes he hung up.
"I'm sorry i shouldn't have thrown you in that situation. If you don't want to we will both understand…" i said and she stopped me.
"No really, it will be interesting to see him again. Friday should be good" she said.
Sarah
Ok so i'm not sure how i'm going to feel about meeting my dad again. That could be either really good or really bad. Oh well we will see how this works out. I just hope Mariana won't be too upset about me postponing our date night.
"Hey how did everything go, today?" she asked watching as Aliza played with her baby dolls.
"Good, guess who i'm meeting next?" i asked.
Without missing a beat she said excitedly," ". Sometimes i worry about her.
"Yes i have to resurrect him first but than we are going out for a tea party." i said and she laughed.
"I have two kids, I swear" i said.
"You're daddy?" Aliza said turning around to us. I pointed at her and looked at Mariana.
"Yes how did you know, sweetie?"
"I heard you on phone with Auntie Jessy" she said.
"You're seeing you're dad?" she asked giving me a look of 'are you really ok with this'. I nodded just hoping i was.
SO I DECIDED TO FAST FORWARD FIFTEEN YEARS, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF THIS. ALSO ONLY A FEW MORE CHAPTERS LEFT BUT YOU KNOW ABOUT AS MUCH OF WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. SO LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN AND HOW IT SHOULD END. SORRY FOR THE WAIT WAS HAVING PROBLEMS BECAUSE I WAS USING INTERNET EXPLORER, NEVER AGAIN.
