I do not own Star Wars

Rey took a moment to savor the feeling of the cool breeze moving through her chestnut locks. When was the last time she had just let her hair loose like this? Working every day on Jakku meant she had no choice but to tightly tie it up, or else risk tangling it in some ship's wiring or it constantly barring her vision. For the first time in forever there was not something the scavenger immediately needed to do. However, she did not feel at peace like she should have. Then again the feeling was most likely due to the fact that she and Kylo Ren were pretending to be Jedis to a group of Bantha herders to win their trust. She felt bad lying to them. They seemed like kind and honest people, the opposite of what she was used to in her home world. However, explaining that her traveling companion was one of the most dangerous figures in the galaxy would have brought too many…complications.

Rey was shaken from her thoughts when she heard a low, bellowing sound. She sat in the shade and turned her attention to a neighboring herd of Banthas that grazed along the canyon floor. She had never been on the best of terms with wildlife. Back on Jakku they were just another opponent in her survival on the harsh, desert planet. However the Banthas seemed like friendly creatures despite their large curling horns. However, their smell was highly unappealing.

As she watched them she carefully fingered the activator, the one thing that stood between Revan and Kylo Ren. Not too far off the man in question sat upon a boulder as Kasi continued to speak to him despite the fact he was not replying nor showing any interest whatsoever. After lunch, the girl had insisted she show them the Banthas and after much begging, Jason finally agreed. Rey was intrigued to see the creatures up close, but Ren seemed unsurprisingly annoyed with having to spend more time with her. Even though he could not harm her, Rey would not let her eyes wander for long before checking to see whether he was still docile towards the child.

"Banthas are awesome, aren't they creepy man?" Kasi excitedly asked.

Kylo Ren huffed in aggravation and kneaded his forehead with his fingers. "How many times must I tell you, don't call me that," he replied raising his voice.

Hearing his outburst, Rey turned to look at him and sent him a glare for snapping. Ren rolled his eyes in response but otherwise remained silent. Kasi however, appeared unaffected.

"Kasi!" a voice suddenly called, reverberating through the canyon.

"I'm here!" the young girl yelled in reply.

Before long the owner of the voice rounded a corner and Samarah appeared. She stopped in front of them and smiled, her usual warmth radiating in her eyes. "Hey, I was wondering if you could help me with something?" she asked.

"What is it?" Rey quickly responded. She knew that while she was still with the Bantha herders she should try everything in her power to win their trust. Rey herself had trouble trusting people, so she knew it was vital they not see her as a threat.

"While I milk the Banthas do you mind filling the troughs with water for them? One of the other herders usually takes care of that but he's been ill lately."

"Of course, it's the least we can do," Rey quickly replied.

At the sound of "we", Ren narrowed his dark eyes at her.

Samarah happily clasped her hands together, "Great! Follow me please".

Hearing this, Kasi happily followed behind her sister along with the force users.

The older sister noticed this and stopped. "Kasi I need you to help me milk today," she chastised.

"But I want to help them!" Kasi exclaimed while pointing at Rey and Kylo Ren.

"You'll see them later, now go get the milk buckets ready," Samarah instructed.

"But!"

"Please Kasi."

"Fiiiiine," the young girl groaned before dragging her feet along in the sand in a new direction. Just as she was about to completely disappear from sight she managed to slip in a quick wave and smile at Kylo Ren. The tall man ignored the gesture.

They followed the female herder, the male begrudgingly, to a large metal trough situated near the herd. It was coated in a layer of desert sand and was much larger than the scavenger anticipated. Then again, Banthas weren't exactly the smallest of creatures.

Next to the trough were large metal buckets. Samarah picked one up before handing it to Rey. "The canyon relies on a natural spring to provide us with water," she explained. "Follow the path over there-"she gestured "- and you should see it in no time". Samarah gave the pair one last smile before walking off.

Rey didn't waste time as she swiftly grabbed another bucket in her other hand. She held it up to Kylo Ren with an expecting look.

"I said I would go along with your story, not do manual labor," Ren commented while frowning at her.

"From what I've heard of the Jedi, they helped people," Rey countered.

"Debatable," Kylo Ren muttered. Despite his lack of enthusiasm for the task, he still begrudgingly took the bucket from her.

Rey was surprised he had conceded so easily. Though she still didn't trust him, she was secretly grateful that for now he was taking this fragile ruse seriously.

When they reached the spring, Rey's lips turned up into a small smile. The clear, turquoise water beautifully contrasted with the smooth, red, canyon walls. Seeing water in such a quantity was still a new experience for her and she couldn't help but react to its splendor.

Ren saw her reaction. "It's sad that a pathetic puddle is all it takes to amuse you," he dryly stated before dipping his bucket into the crystal water. Rey rolled her eyes at his arrogance. "Not all of us are fortunate enough to leave our home planets" she stated, joining him at the water's edge. He didn't respond as he continued to fill his buckets, a mundane task for an unlikely candidate. Watching him work Rey couldn't help but feel a little curious of the other force user. As she fed cool water into the metal container she tried to consider a time when he wasn't always a ruthless Commander of the First Order. The last time she had accidently taken a glimpse into his past had not gone pleasantly. She didn't intend to invade his mind again, but questions still plagued her. Clearly he knew Luke, but what did he mean when he told her and their hosts not to believe everything about him? Was there a dark side to the famous Hero Luke Skywalker?

"Ask," Kylo Ren suddenly stated.

"What?" she replied in confusion.

She heard him sigh before he turned his dark eyes on her. "Your curiosity is literally radiating off of you and through the Force," he replied.

When she didn't respond he turned back to his task. If Rey was going to ask something it was probably better to keep it neutral. The last thing she wanted was to deal with his anger if she asked something too personal.

"Which planet are you from?" Rey finally asked. She felt quite odd trying to make conversation with her enemy.

Kylo Ren's tall form froze as he lifted a bucket, the water sloshing a little onto his pale hands. Clearly he was taken aback by her question. Rey worried she had somehow still managed to anger him and decided to remain silent as she finished her task. She had learned that stoking his anger just wasn't worth it. Especially if she wanted to retain her sanity by the time this little adventure was over.

As they made their way back up the trail to the Bantha herd, Ren finally broke his silence.

"I was born on Chandrila," he said, his voice void of emotions.

Rey almost tripped on a rock she was so surprised. As a result she had to adjust her grip on the buckets so they wouldn't fall. She just couldn't believe he had actually answered.

"I..um..I hear it's supposed to be nice.."

She internally cringed at her horrible response.

Ren just raised an eyebrow at her.

"Er, what I mean to say is it's nicer than Jakku."

"Anywhere is nicer than that backwater planet."

Rey sighed. "You have a point there," she conceded. Meanwhile, surprise flashed in Ren's eyes before quickly vanishing.

Wait, did I just agree with Kylo Ren? She mentally realized.

In the brief moments following their ordeal, Rey suddenly found the canyon path becoming more and more indistinct. Just when she realized that something was wrong, it vanished all together. The world went dark. Then, suddenly she was somewhere else. She was standing on a long red carpet that snaked its way through a long hall with high ceilings. Light shone through the equally large windows revealing a marvelous city of silver. Tall buildings seemed to sparkle in the warm sunshine as ships sped past them. Her hazel gaze widened at the sight, equal parts confused and amazed.

"Master Ben!" a voice called. Rey quickly turned to find a gold protocol droid hurrying toward her. Just as she thought it would run right into her, it passed through her like she was a ghost. She gasped and touched her stomach to make sure she was actually intact.

Ben? She thought. As in Kylo Ren?

Shock flooded Rey's body when she realized that she was somehow in his memories again. She had not even tried to enter his mind, yet it had somehow happened again. The only she could do now was follow the droid, hoping it would offer some answers as to why she was here.

"The Princess has arrived and requests your presence!" it continued.

Rey furrowed her brow in confusion at the sound of the word "Princess," but still continued to follow the droid. When they rounded the corner she saw a small child, maybe five or six, with shaggy black hair. His skin was unhealthily pale, and he tightly clutched a stuffed Bantha in one hand. Rey couldn't believe what she was seeing.

"Ren.." she uttered despite the fact that no one could hear her.

"I don't want to see Mommy!" he cried out. "She always leaves me alone and I have no one to play with!"

"Come now Master Ben, you always have me," the droid replied, unaffected by the child's distress.

"I hate you!" Ben shouted before running in the opposite direction.

The world began to spin as the hallway faded away. After a few more moments the canyon slowly came back in view along with an intense headache. Her shoes felt unusually cool and soggy which meant she probably dropped the buckets of water onto them. The bright sunlight caused her to close her eyes as she rubbed her fingers against her forehead. When Rey chanced opening them again she found Ren staring at her. He didn't exactly look angry, but frankly she couldn't tell what was currently on his mind with the searing pain in her head.

"What happened?" she mumbled.

Kylo Ren didn't reply, only stood with his feet planted in the sand. She could now tell he was thinking about something because of the faraway look in his dark eyes. What that was however, Rey had no idea.

Before she could ask again he turned on his heel and quickly hurried up the path and away from her. She made to chase after him, but was stopped when her foot connected with something metallic. Looking down she found his buckets.

Had he dropped his buckets because he also had a vision? Rey wondered. Ignoring this thought for the time being, she quickly collected the discarded buckets and kicked up sand as she hurried after him.

A/N: Hey Everyone! I am so sorry I have not been updating this. College hit me hard, however I will try my best to continue updating! Now that I've seen "The Last Jedi" I will try to incorporate some of its canon. Thank you for all the kind reviews, and please let me know what you thought of this chaper!
