Scene 24

INT. Mathew's Apartment

(Cory Shawn Katy and Topanga sit at the dining room table.)

Topanga: I faxed Landon a temporary custody agreement this afternoon so as long as he signs it you should be fine having Marie here for as long as Angela is sick.

Cory: Can someone pass the Mashed potatoes? (Shawn hands Cory the bowl and Cory puts some on his plate.)

Shawn: I appreciate you doing that for me Topanga, but I would really like to formally adopt her at some point if that's possible I mean she is my daughter it's silly for her not to have my last name.

Topanga: I see your point and will do what I can, but I must let you know that might not be possible.

Cory: So where are the girls? It's about Riley's curfew and it's not like her to be late.

Shawn: They went to Ikea to get furniture for Marie's room and said they'd be home late, and that Josh was giving them a ride.

Cory: That's nice of him. For living so close I wish he'd come around more often.

Topanga: He's in college Cory he's probably just busy with his own life.

Cory: You're probably right but I still don't like it.

Shawn: Speaking of things you're not going to like I hear he and Maya have a thing for each other.

Topanga: But he's three years older than her and in college. That's wildly inappropriate. I'll have to have a talk with him when he gets here.

Cory: I don't know I think they might be cute together.

Katy: That's what I said, and Shawn just went all papa bear crazy mode

Shawn: It's bad enough the idea of her dating someone her own age let alone a college student.

Cory: But it's Josh Shawn. You've known the kid his whole life a lot longer than you've known Maya even, you really think he'd do anything to hurt Maya?

Shawn: Not intentionally, but I still don't like it.

Topanga: I don't care how any of you feel about it if a cop knew Maya's age and saw the two of them so much as kissing they'd give Josh and funny look and God forbid they do anything worse especially after he turns eighteen. From a legal standpoint it's a recipe for disaster.

Katy: I really don't think it's anything more than an innocent crush at this point I really wouldn't be too concerned.

Shawn: But he rides a motorcycle

Cory: which you taught him to ride when he was Maya's age.

Shawn: and he has a tattoo covering his whole back

Cory: Which you both took him to get and paid for on his 16th birthday.

Katy: what's his tattoo of?

Shawn: It's a map of the world with the places he's been filled in like the one I have.

Katy: it sounds to me you're just describing the ways he's like yourself but complaining about them.

Shawn: It's just weird ok. He's been as much my little brother as he is yours, and Maya's like my daughter.

(Riley enters apartment.)

Riley: There you guys are we were trying to bring the furniture up to your place Shawn but the doors locked.

(Shawn digs through his pocket and hands Riley the keys.)

Shawn: Here you go.

(Riley goes to walk down stairs.)

Shawn: wait Riley do you find Maya and Josh dating weird?

Riley: I don't think they're officially dating yet, but they definitely have feelings for one another.

Shawn: Do you find that weird?

Riley: it was a little weird at first, but then I realized that I'm lucky to have two people I love, love each other.

Shawn: You think they're in love?

Riley: well I'm probably exaggerating but what I meant was it's nice that they like each other because I like them both. It's like you and my parents were you upset when your two best friends started dating?

Shawn: Of course, not they seemed perfect for each other and I wanted them to be happy.

Riley: well that's sort of how I feel about Josh and Maya.

(Maya walks down the hall yelling.)

Maya: How long does it take to get a pair of keys josh has been holding a bed frame for the last five minutes.

(Maya pokes her head into the apartment.)

Maya: Riley either get downstairs or give me the keys

(Riley follows Maya out of the apartment.)

Katy: did what Riley said make you feel better?

Shawn: Yeah maybe them dating wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Topanga: as cute as they are I'm still going to have a talk with them about this.

(Shawn rolls his eyes.)

Shawn: well I'm going to go help the kids set up Marie's room.
