Chapter 7

Is This What You Consider A Quest?

Previously: "My point is when Cadmus got to Colchis he sacrificed the ram to the gods, and hung the Fleece in the middle of the kingdom. The Fleece brought prosperity to the lands, people lived happily. That is why Jason wanted the Fleece. It could do anything."

"It can cure Thalia's tree." Percy interrupted.

"Yes," I agreed. "But, the Fleece has been missing for centuries, no one can find it."

"But, Grover found it."

"We don't have a choice. We are going there to get it. Are you coming with me to rescue Grover or not?" I asked.

Percy sighed and grabbed another dish.

"Percy, we'll have to fight a cyclops, Polyphemus. The worst cyclops of all time. There is only one place where his island could be. The Sea of Monsters."

"Where's that?" Percy asked, his eyebrows scrunched together. I smiled he looked really cute when he did that.

"The Sea of Monsters. The same place that Odysseus sailed through, and Jason, and Aeneas, and all the famous heros."

"You mean the Mediterranean?" Percy asks eyebrows still scrunched.

"No... well yes... but at the same time no."

"Another straight answer. Thanks." He says sarcastically.

"Okay, Percy the Sea of Monsters is a famous place that many heros have sailed through. Yes it did used to be in the Mediterranean but, since everything sifts location it would be..."

"Somewhere south. But, wouldn't mortal notice a bunch of weird things, like ships disappearing."

"Of course they would! They don't understand exactly what happens, but they know where it is. The Sea of Monsters is off the east coast of the United States."

"The Bermuda Triangle?" he guessed.

"Exactly."

"Okay... so at least we know where it is."

"That's still a large area Percy. Searching for one tiny island in monster infested waters-"

"Hey," he said lightly elbowing me. "I am the son of the sea god. This is my home turf. How hard can it be?"

I rolled my eyes, you are so cocky and adorable, I thought.

We made a plan to pressure Tantalus into giving us the quest at the campfire.

At the campfire the mood was very depressing. A metal bird attack doesn't really brighten the mood. After a few songs Percy stood up.

"Sir."

"The kitchen boy has something to say?"

Percy ignored him and mentioned for me to stand up. I did. Standing right next to him I realized how much taller he is.

"We have an idea to save the camp." Percy said. Dead silence followed.

"If it has anything to do with the chariots-"

"The Golden Fleece, we know where it is."

Percy told him the entire dream about Grover. After he was done I reminded everyone about the Golden Fleece and what it could do.

"The Fleece can save camp. I am positive of it." I finished.

"Nonsense, we don't need saving." Tantalus said.

Every camper at the fire turned and glared at him.

"Besides the Sea of Monsters. That's not an exact location. No one even knows where it is!"

"Yes, I do." Percy said. My heart stopped. Forget about all the heart pounding things, mine just stopped.

"You would?" I whispered.

Percy nodded. My brain raced. "30,31,75,12."

"Okay, thank you for those meaningless numbers." Tantalus said.

"They are sailing coordinates. Latitude and longitude. I- I learned it in social studies." Percy stuttered. I was shocked. Who would have know Seaweed Brain actually knew something? It was kind of cute... He rubbed the back of his neck embarrassed.

"30 degrees, 31 minutes north, 75 degrees, 12 minutes west. He's right! I think the Gray Sisters said something about it. I probably should have paid more attention. Off the coast of Florida! We need a quest!"

"Wait just a minute." Tantalus interrupted.

Campers continued the chant. "We need a quest! We need a quest!" I guess that's what happens when you get a bunch of ADHD kids together.

The flames in the campfire rose.

"It isn't necessary for a quest!" Tantalus shouted.

"WE NEED A QUEST! WE NEED A QUEST!" the campers shouted.

"Fine! You brats want a quest? I will give you one. A champion will go on the journey to receive the Golden Fleece. Or die trying." I was so happy. Finally we could go! "The champion should be someone who had earned respect, protected camp, and has been a chariot champion. That only leaves one person. Clarisse is the champion!"

The Ares cabin started to cheer. "CLARISSE! CLARISSE!"

"I accept this quest." Clarisse said.

"Wait! Grover is my friend. The dream came to me."

"Sit down! You had your chance last summer." an Ares camper yelled.

"I accept the quest. I, Clarisse, daughter of Ares, will save camp!"

I started to yell protests, my siblings followed. Percy started to throw marshmallows at people, until it was a full out marshmallow war.

"Silence! Sit down you brats!"

Tantalus proceed to tell a long boring story about himself. I didn't listen I was making a plan.

A few minutes later he dismissed us. I was in mid plan.

I had a strange dream. It all started on a ship. I couldn't tell where. I kept hearing all these voices. They were convincing and wonderful. They told me wonderful things. Luke being good again, my dad and mom getting back together, my stepmother and step brothers being better. I jumped off the boat and started to swim towards the voices. Suddenly I got pulled under. I drowned.

I woke up sweating and panting. It wasn't real Annabeth calm down, I told myself. I decided to go to the beach. Percy was always telling me how calming it was, I wanted to see for myself. I grabbed a t-shirt and shorts and started to walk towards the beach.

I looked up at the sky and decided that it must be around one in the morning. Out of habit I started to look at the constellations. There was Leo, and Vertigo out tonight, there was more to but my neck began to hurt.

Once I arrived at the beach I laid down on the sand. It was warm against my back.

"Annabeth."

"What?" I whirled around trying to see who it was.

"You can't see me darling, I am in your head. It's me Aphrodite."

"Lady Aphrodite, why are you in my head."

"Well I think we both know why I am here."

"Is this about Percy?" I asked.

"Yes, that Seaweed Brain of yours. I know all your thoughts Annabeth. I know exactly what's going to happen to you, to the both of you. Your mother told me to tell you to get away from him, but I say you follow your heart. You are going to embark on a long journey dear, just be ready."

"Thank you Lady Aphrodite."

"Your welcome. Now go take a walk on the beach. You may be surprised what you'll find."

I decided to listen to Aphrodite, she is after all a goddess. I continued walking down the beach. I loved the feeling of the sand beneath my toes. Then I heard a yell.

"Annabeth help me!" It was Percy.

:0 what's going to happen?
