Chapter 8
We meet the Princess Andromeda (the boat)
Previously: I decided to listen to Aphrodite, she is after all a goddess. I continued walking down the beach. I loved the feeling of the sand beneath my toes. Then I heard a yell.
"Annabeth help me!" It was Percy.
I took off my flip flops and sprinted across the beach. My feet kept slipping on the sand underneath me I was worried I would fall on face in front of Percy. After a short sprint I found Percy on the sand staring at the waves. Tyson ran up a second later.
My mind buzzed. Was he hurt? Is he okay? What the heck was he doing here? He has pop and he didn't invite me! I took a deep breath. Annabeth calm down.
"What's going on? I heard you call for help!" I said sitting next to him.
"Me too!" Tyson yelled sitting next to me. I scooted down. "Heard you yell 'bad things are attacking me come save me!'" Like Percy would say that, I thought.
"I didn't call you guys, I am fine." Percy said, his eyebrows scrunched up again.
"But then-" looking around at the objects around us I had realized that Percy had recently had company. There was three yellow duffel bags, a thermos, and a bottle of gummy vitamins that Percy was holding. "What-"
"Just listen we don't have much time."
Percy told us about his conversation with Hermes. Well I guess the gods are busy tonight, I thought.
I heard the patrol harpies in the distance and I knew that we had better get going if we didn't want to be a demigod/ cyclops sandwich.
"Percy, we have to do the quest." I said looking at him.
"We'll get expelled. Trust me, I am an expert at getting expelled." Percy huffed.
"So your point is? If we fail there won't even be a camp to come back to."
"Yeah, but you promised Chiron-"
"I promised to keep you safe. Which I can do fine away from camp, so I need to come with you on this quest. Tyson can stay behind and tell them-"
"I want to go!" Tyson yelled. Of course he does.
"No!" I said panicking. "I mean... Percy you know that's impossible."
Percy looked like he was having a debate in his head. Kind of like in cartoons when the person has an angel on one side and a devil on the other.
"We can't leave him. Tantalus will punish him for us being gone."
"Percy," I said trying to be somewhat nice. "we are going to Polyphemus's island! He is a sik- ci-" I stamped my foot in frustration. Stupid dyslexia! Why can't I talk in front of him? "You know what I mean!"
"Tyson can go." Percy said standing.
I glared at him. He is going to get us killed. "Fine, how do we get to that ship?" I said pointing to the one.
"Well Hermes said to talk to my dad."
Percy stepped into the waves. "Umm..."
"Percy! We don't have all night!" I whispered.
"Umm... hey Dad. We need your help. We need to get to that ship, like now, before we get eaten, so yeah..."
Percy and I, like most demigods have pretty awkward relationships with our parents, godly or not.
For a while we just stood there. Finally, three white stallions appeared. I gasped.
"Fish ponies!" Tyson yelled.
The creatures removed themselves from the water and I saw what they were.
"Hippocampi! They're beautiful!" I said walking over to one.
"There!" A harpy yelled from behind us. "Bad children make a snack for us harpies!"
Five fat harpies were at the top of a sand dune looking down at us. They had pinched faces, talons, and feathery wings too big for their bodies. Percy and I moved around quickly organizing our things onto the hippocampi. We hopped on and blasted off. The harpies back at the beach cursed at us and told us to return. We didn't, we continued towards the cruise ship.
Once we reached the cruise ship I realized how huge it was. The things was literally the size of a football field, if not bigger. It counted at least ten levels brightly lit with portholes. In front of the ship was a three story tall women, she was wearing a Greek chiton and she was chained to the front of the ship. She was sculpted to look like she was screaming in terror. I have no idea why someone would do that. Underneath the screaming statue lady was black letters. With my dyslexia and the dark it took me awhile to decipher it. Then I realized what it read: Princess Andromeda. That must be the chained statue lady. I couldn't remember her story, if she had one.
"How do we get aboard?" I shouted to Percy over the waves.
As if they understood my question the hippocampus swam to a ladder near the hull.
"You first." Percy shouted.
I cursed myself for wearing flip flops. I slung my huge duffel bag over my shoulder. Percy gave me a boost and started to climb. I could hear Percy and Tyson climbing behind me.
Once Tyson bid farewell to his hippocampi and climbed aboard we had to pry off a door. With a good amount of cursing in Ancient Greek I managed to pry it open with my knife.
I figured that the ship would be packed. I was right there were a ton of people aboard. After a few minutes of walking around I heard nothing.
"It's a ghost ship." Percy said.
"No, bad smell." Tyson replied.
"I don't smell anything." I said.
We walked around a little more before we all agreed that we needed to hide. This ship didn't feel right, almost like it was overrun by monsters or something.
"How do you know Annabeth? Maybe it is." a voice hissed in my head.
And there is yet another cliff hanger:) I feel accomplished and evil at the same time...
***Review Challenge: This is an opinion question. Everyone is entitled to there own opinions so don't judge. What do you think is going to happen in the House of Hades?***
If you don't know what the House of Hades is, you obviously haven't read the Mark of Athena. Anyway I think that Carter and Sadie from the Kane Chronicles (another series by Rick about Egyptian gods) will come into play with rescuing Annabeth and Percy. What do you think?
