Chapter 16
Previously: Hylla gave me a tour of the spa. At the end of the tour we came to a room with large mirror and several chairs. Hylla motioned for me to sit down on a chair in front of a mirror.
Another girl almost identical to Hylla came in. "Hello my name is Reyna. Now lets see about your makeover."
"The very first thing that we are going to do is wash your face. It's important to have a clean face before you apply makeup so that you have a clean palette to start with." Reyna said grabbing a small white container to her side.
Hylla ran a washcloth under hot water and started to gently scrub my face. Once she was done Reyna took some white paste and applied it all around my face.
"This stuff does wonders, it gets deep into your pore to clean them and it obliterates all pimples. Your face is relatively clear if you keep wash it, it will stay that way."
Hylla grabbed the washrag again and washed off the white paste. "There see the difference? Your face is clean and super soft." she said.
Reyna and Hylla continued working for the next fifteen minutes. Reyna applied light makeup to my face, Hylla braided my parts of my hair with gold thread.
"There that should do it." Reyna said backing up. "Now for my favorite part," Hylla said. "It's the final reveal. Put this on in there." she said handing me a white silk dress and pointing to a changing room.
I took off my dirty clothes folding them and setting them on a bench. I picked up the dress and surveyed it, it was a white sleeveless dress somewhat like C.C's. Slipping it on I noticed that the dress was remarkably lightweight and made of flowy material. I nervously stepped out of the dressing room.
Reyna and Hylla gasped and surveyed their work. "You look astonishing dear, breathtaking. Just wait till Percy sees you!" Hylla said.
"Lets go see him now." Reyna said opening a door to the room Percy's was presumably in. Hylla and I followed Reyna down a staircase and to the right where I heard C.C's voice.
"I suggest you-"
"Miss C.C?" I asked before entering.
C.C whipped around quickly. "Hello dear." She said smiling. "You look absolutely stunning."
I looked around "Where is Percy?"
"He is undergoing a treatment, he will be back shortly. What did you think of the tour?"
"It was amazing, it's quite a place you have here."
"Yes, you can really do anything here, be anything that you want to."
"I've always wanted to be an architect."
"Pfft, an architect? You have the power to become a sorceress, just like me." C.C said stepping closer.
I stepped back. "A sorceress?"
"Yes," C.C said holding up her hand. In her hand was a ball of blue fire. "My mother is Hecate, the goddess of magic. I know a Athena child when I see one. You and I are the same, we both seek knowledge. We admire others greatness, neither one of us should stand in the shadows of men!"
"I am not understanding." I said clearly confused.
"Stay with me Annabeth, you can learn so much more, become powerful sorceress, and become immortal!"
"But- I"
"You are far too intelligent for that little camp dear. How many great female half-blood heroes can you name?"
"Well... Amelia Earhart, Atalanta-"
"Pssh, men get too much glory. The only power for women is sorcery. Medea and Calypso those were powerful women! And I am, of course, the greatest of them all."
"You- C.C... Circe!" I said taking another step back.
"Yes darling."
Circe laughed. "You don't need to worry, you will not be harmed."
"What have you done to Percy?" I sneered.
"I just helped him realize his true potential." Circe said waving it off.
I looked around the room again. Stuck in the corner was a cage of guinea pigs. What had Percy gotten himself into now?
"Forget him! Join me! Your friend will become a wonderful kindergarten class pet. He will be well cared for." Circe said.
My mind was reeling, Mother what should I do? Finally, I had a plan.
"Can I have a minute of privacy to say my goodbyes?" I asked hopefully.
"Of course." Circe said smiling, she snapped she disappeared and bars covered the windows and the door.
"Alright," I said to the cage. "Which one of you is Percy?" All of the guinea pigs hopped around squeaking. I needed something to turn him back... something with godly powers. I scanned the room quickly, I spotted Percy jeans in the corner. Digging into his pockets I grabbed the multivitamins and popped a yellow one in my mouth. I had read about Hermes multivitamins and was positive that the yellow one was temporary invincibility.
Circe came back into the room then with Hylla and Reyna. "Have you made your choice dear?"
"Yes I have." I said taking out my dagger.
Circe laughed. "You are going to fight a sorceress with that?" Turning to her attendants she asked. "What should we turn Annabeth into? Perhaps a shrew?"
Blue fire magic swirled around Circe fingers curling all around me. Nothing happened, outraged I jumped at Circe. I put the point of my dagger under her chin.
"How about a panther? One that can claw your throat!"
"How?" Circe yelled.
I took out the multivitamins and held them out for her to see.
Circe huffed in annoyance. "Stupid Hermes and his vitamins!"
"Turn Percy back into a human or else!"
"I can't'!" Circe said throwing up her hands.
"Then you get it!"
Hylla and Reyna stepped forward, Circe waved them away. "Get away, she is immune to magic!"
I dragged Circe over to the cage, opened the vitamins and poured them into the cage. One by one the guinea pigs turned back into humans.
"No you don't understand! Those are the worst!" the sorceress shouted.
One of the men, a pirate I think, stood up. "Argh! Look what the witch has done to me!"
"No!" Circe complained.
I gasped. "You are Edward Teach, son of Ares!" I said to the pirate.
"Yes indeed lass, better known as Blackbeard! I am going to run her out. Get me a bowl of celery! Arggggh!" Circe and her attendants screamed and took off running the pirates following and yelling about celery.
I put my knife back in its sheath, I looked up and glared at Percy. He held up his hands in surrender. "Thanks... I'm really sorry..." he muttered.
I tackled him with a hug. "I'm happy you're not a guinea pig." I said into his shirt before stepping back.
"Me too." Percy said blushing.
I quickly undid the braids in my hair and threw up my hair into a ponytail. "Come on Seaweed Brain let's get moving! We have a quest to finish."
We ran down the hillside, past the screaming women and the pirates to the harbor.
"Which ship?" I asked when we came to a stop at the harbor.
"There." Percy said pointing to a pirate ship, most likely Blackbeard's.
"But-"
"I can make it work, I promise." he said taking my hand and pulling me towards the ship.
"Argh!" Blackbeard yelled. "Those kids are a-boarding me ship!"
Percy and I boarded the vessel.
"Now what?" I asked.
Percy fell silent and closed his eyes. "Mizzenmast!" he yelled.
"What the Hades, Percy?" I yelled.
Then the cables started flying around on their own undoing themselves. The canvases unrolled, wooden pulleys creaked.
I ducked under a flying cable. "How in the world Percy?"
Instead of answering he silently commanded the ship to move. We took off at superhuman speed into the Sea of Monsters.
