(Puck's point of view)
A week passed quicker than I thought and just like that we were saying goodbye to Shelby.
Santana waited in the car, ready to take her to the airport.
"Beth, honey you'll see me soon." Shelby promised as Beth held onto her with tears in her eyes.
I'm not sure who looked worse, Shelby or Quinn. Quinn sat on the steps to Shelby's old complex with her head leaning against the rail and her eyes closed. She looked like she hadn't slept in days. I know I didn't. Not after what happened in New York.
FLASHBACK
"Puck what are you doing here?" Quinn asked surprised.
"What? He wanted to surprise you and I thought it was cute." Santana said putting her hands up.
"Are you going to invite me in?"
Quinn looked over her shoulder before agreeing.
She led me through her apartment to where everyone else was.
From the look on Rachel's face, I guessed that I still wasn't forgiven.
Shelby must have noticed the tension because she gave some lame excuse to go find Beth.
Finn took a sip of his drink, and Santana did her best to hold in her laughter at how childish it all seemed.
"Congratulations Rachel. I heard the show was fantastic." I started.
"Thanks. It was fun and hard but mostly fun." She offered awkwardly.
"You should've heard her solo. It was the best one." Finn said not quite making eye contact.
"Please, spare my ears with all this awkward chatter." Santana said offering a loud burp.
"Rachel, you can let Puck know that you disagree with his lie that stole Finn's life. Finn, you can stop guilt tripping yourself it won't erase what happened, and Quinn stop avoiding Puck and Finn." Santana seemed satisfied as Rachel gripped her arm and Quinn's eyes fell to the ground because she knew that she was right.
Finn shifted his weight before finishing his drink.
"Santana is right Puck. I don't think you made the right call lying all these years, and if I'm honest, I can't trust you right now or ever." Rachel said storming off somewhere.
"I'm sorry again for everything. I feel horrible." Finn said gripping my shoulder before hesitantly looking in Quinn's direction.
"Finn..I'm sorry." Quinn said.
He nodded and whispered "I know." Before walking off to find Rachel.
"Quinn.." I said but a single tear trailed down her face and before I could wipe it, she was walking out the front door.
END FLASHBACK
Ever since we got back from New York, Quinn's been off. She hasn't been looking me in the eye.
She even volunteered to stay with Santana until the move. I guess she was hoping to see us leave with Shelby so that she could go back to New York.
Sensing my frustration, I balled up my fist and jumped in the U-Haul.
I must've slammed the door too hard because everyone looked in my direction.
I sighed, my hands finding my head before starting the truck.
Just my luck, homeward bound played and Quinn walks up to the truck.
I counted to ten before rolling down the window.
"Do you want some company on the road?" She asked with her hands in her pocket.
NO! I WANT YOU! I WANT US! I WANT…
"Sure." I heard myself say. I would probably regret that later.
…..
An hour into our drive to Chicago, Quinn's hand brushed over mine as I went for the radio and she adjusted the temperature.
I clutched the steering wheel hoping to ignore whatever happened when the tire pressure light came on.
Great.
I stopped at the nearest gas station, only to discover a giant nail in the tire.
"Is everything ok?" Quinn asked.
"We have a flat." I said harsher than I intended.
"Do we have to pay to replace it?" She asked ignoring my attitude.
A stranger cut me off before I could reply.
"If you drive 20 miles West, there's another rest stop and they have a mechanic on call most days."
"Thank you!" He nodded and continued about his day.
I dug around for a spare tire and put it on before getting back on the road.
It didn't help that we had to drive 20 miles below the speed limit with our hazards on and at that we hit traffic. Typical Sunday traffic.
"Puck, pull over. Let me drive. You look tired."
I waved her off.
"I got it." I said
"Fine."
We fell quiet right when the radio gave out on us, so I started whistling Landslide when Quinn shocked me by singing it.
Well I've been afraid of changing cause I built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older and I'm getting older too
Well
I tapped the beat on the wheel while she snapped her fingers.
She was always good at keeping tempo. A laugh escaped her lips as she saw me shake my head.
I smirked before singing along.
Well I've been afraid of changing cause I built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older and I'm getting older too
Well I'm getting older too
So took this love and take it down
If you climb a mountain and you turn around
And If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Where the landslide brought me down
And if you've seen my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe
Well maybe
Well maybe
The landslide will bring you down
I'm not sure how long we sang Glee songs, but we eventually made it to the rest stop.
Apparently, the mechanic was only on call at the gas station 10 minutes away on weekdays. I sighed.
"Let's call it a night. This hotel looks promising." Quinn suggested, so we booked a room.
The hotel wasn't a Best Western, but it didn't smell like smoke and the bed was bigger than the room itself.
"You can have the bed, I'll take the floor." I said with my back to her, when something unexpected happened.
"Puck, why didn't you go with her?" She said walking closer. I closed my eyes, my hands finding my forehead.
"Beth has family in Ohio." I said after a few seconds before turning to face her.
"Is that the only reason?" She pressed walking closer.
"Quinn, what do you want me to say?" I was tired of avoiding conversations and being the nice guy. I told her what I want.
"Tell me the truth. Why did you stay?" She said a little annoyed too.
"Because I love you Quinn! Beth loves you and our family needs you!" I said too quickly. I covered my mouth once I realized what I said. I love her. I love Quinn.
"I love you too Puck." She said before throwing herself at me.
We kissed with a fire that wasn't there before. It felt like freedom. This might have been the first time that Quinn trusted me with her heart.
She didn't hold back. She ripped my belt from my pants, pushing me onto the bed.
My hands found her waist.
She kissed me like she'd never kiss me again. She was breathless, and that's when I flipped her on her back.
I can't seem to remember us ever stopping, but at some point, the moon shone on her skin as her breathing slowed until she was asleep.
1 month later
(Quinn's Point of View)
The air was different.
I should have known tonight would be special. I weaved my hand through Pucks as we walked down the boardwalk slowing our pace.
"Did you enjoy dinner on the yacht?" He asked.
"I did. Maybe next time, you can cook." I teased kissing him.
He playfully kissed me back making me laugh.
I never was one for public affection, but now I couldn't imagine being without it.
Time had passed and even though things were still weird with Rachel, Finn was coming around to spend time with Beth, and I got to take Beth to school on days that I spent the night with Puck.
I blushed remembering last week when Santana commented that "we must have a long night if we found time to have sex."
I went to make an excuse when she found my thong. I spent the rest of the night hearing her tease about me being in love with Puck, and even though a part of me was afraid to love again the other part was glad that it was him.
I must've zoned out because Puck let go of my hand and stopped walking.
"Quinn." He said.
I turned to see him pull something from his jacket.
I froze.
"I've gone long enough without you. Will you marry me?" He asked getting on one knee.
I panicked, but before I could wrap my brain around it I blurted out 'yes.'
Puck jumped up and put the ring on my finger. It fit perfectly.
In the distance, I heard shouting.
"Yayyy Mommy!" Beth shouted hugging me.
"Glad you two will finally tie the knot." Santana commented holding the camera.
I laughed, hugging her and Beth and even Finn. It was after hugging them that I realized that we were the only people on the boardwalk and that everyone who was here was here for us.
I gasped when I walked further and saw the tables set up and the dancefloor filled with familiar people. It was a party.
"Surprised yet?" Santana asked me. I nodded before catching up with Mr. Shue, Kurt, Sam, Mercedes and Artie.
I was grateful for the second chance with the man I love and the family I've missed, including glee club. I couldn't help but tear up thinking about being on the other side of that letter, where it all started. I even found myself laughing with Rachel, and Tina.
I hugged my mom, Puck's mom and everyone else that managed to make it when I noticed a familiar face.
"Dad?" I said.
"Quinn." He embraced me, kissing the top of my head. I dug my nose in his chest missing the smell of his cologne.
"A toast to the bride to be, the mother of Puck's child, and my best friend, Quinn. We love you and may you sparkle like this champagne." Santana added.
We chuckled, and ate under the clearest May skies, enjoying each other and the fireworks.
