CandySlice- Good, someone understands that her parents are not drug dealers anymore and regret doing it in the first place. (Just to make that clear.)
MelissaLovesRH- Thank you! I plan to!
FloraBlue- I couldn't think of another way to make a rational kidnapping.
TheBigFourGirl- Thanks a bunchamus!
FloraIrmaTylee- Your teacher sounds like a cool guy! Also, drama is bound to happen between the two! *Hands over mouth, looks side to side evilly*
InvisibleGeek- Umm… good ideas, good ideas, but her parents aren't drug dealers anymore.
Ooh caffeine! I did this in like an hour, so whiskey tango foxtrot! (Explanation of randomness at the bottom)
Chapter 14Jack
It is night again and like last night, I cannot sleep. Rapunzel had crashed into bed almost as soon as we got home, slight snores sounding from her mouth. I had twisted and turned, thoughts running wild in my head. The room had gotten too hot and I had stepped outside after changing into something walk worthy.
So here I am now, in front of my old house, on the northern point of Corona Island. The night wind chills me through my thin cotton shirt. I turn to leave, the dark only penetrated by a lamppost fifteen feet away. I should go now, in case Rapunzel wakes up. I start walking, stones catching in the soft of my feet.
The manicured lawns around me seem grotesque in the dark of the night. Each shadow elongated with decorations of Christmas flapping in the wind eerily. The hair on the back of my neck stands up and I get the feeling of being watched.
A voice rings out behind me, "Jack? Jack Frost?" I jump and turn around on the sidewalk to see the owner of this voice. A dark, shadowy figure appears. A girl, maybe my age. Her long black hair is waist length. "It's me," The girl says. "Eris Syracuse… you know, from elementary school?"
A bolt of memory hits me, of this same girl, only younger, spilling red juice in my hair and staining it for a month. She was in my fourth- grade class.
Eris steps closer, her hazel brown-flecked eyes cutting through my own blue orbs like a razor, "Where have you been all these years?" She smiles and her white teeth nearly flash in the light.
I smirk, "I've been in Burgess, trying to get the red kool-aid out of my hair still."
The jet-black haired girl giggles, "You still remember that?"
"Yeah! I was a ginger for a month!" Eris and I both crack up. Her laugh echoes into the night, silky and smooth, but with an odd ring to it. The light catches her eyes making them look red in the iris and orange in the whites. Her purple dress flutters around, playing with the breeze.
A voice calls out from a dimly lit house, "Eris, that guy you're talking to could be a pedophile!"
Eris turns and shouts back, "I don't care, P, go back inside!" She turns back and pinches her brow. "Why must we live in such skeptical times?" The ebony haired girl looks up, "Sorry, that was just my cousin. He's staying here for the holidays."
I nod and look down awkwardly. I start as an elbow slips into mine. Eris glances into my eyes.
"Come with me, there's a place I want to show you," I begin to protest, but Eris drags me back out into the street, away from the bridge between the mainland and the island.
We get to a shack with loud music playing and people shouting. Eris entwines her fingers with mine. I shrug off the need to pull my hand away from her grasp. She shoves open the door with her hip and smiles at me, her eyes daring me to follow, not that I have a choice anyways due to the handholding.
The airs in the shack was smoky and choke worthy. We weaved among the people, Eris in front of me, obviously searching for someone. She seemed to lock onto someone and skipped a few feet ahead into the arms of a shirtless person that had a short ponytail and spiky hazel hair.
"Guy! I thought you'd be home with Eep!" Eris exclaimed over the music.
Guy shook his head, "I needed a night alone… you know, my parents…" He pulls himself out of his memories and looks at me. "Who's this loser?"
I reach out a hand to shake his, "I'm Jack Frost, friends with Eris."
Guy takes my hand and shakes it hard, "Ah, she brought you here right?"
"Yes I did!" Eris said happily. "I'm going to get a drink. What do you want, Jack?"
"Uh... water."
"Water?" Eris raised an eyebrow. "Come on; live a little, what about a Bud Light? Blue Moon?"
"Really, I just want water," I say firmly. Eris rolls her eyes and flips her light hair.
"Sure," But she walks off anyways. A few yards away from us, she pulls out her phone, puts it to her ear, and keeps walking to the bar.
Guy motions to me with his beer, "So, Eris dragged you here?" I nod and Guy chuckles, "She pulled me here two months ago, when she found me in the park. I had been having a bad night, Eep had told me to get some fresh air. Eris saw me and, without a detailed explanation, brought me here. I've been here since." He smiles and takes a swig of alcohol.
"So, Eris does this a lot?" I asked.
"Yeah, she's the recruiter of this place, quite a job she has," Guy concludes.
Eris waltzes up, still on her phone, "Oh cone on, Pitch, you haven't been down here since Halloween... Oh all right! But this wine will cost you-… Fine! Dammit!"
She hangs up and smiles seductively at me, "Sorry that was just my cousin, Pitch." I take a sip of the water and wince at the after taste. Their water is disgusting!
"Ugh!" I can't stop the sound coming from my throat and gag a bit at the slight burning from the water. Eris watches with a coy smile, "So, as I was saying, Pitch will be bringing a few friends with him, just to liven up the party." The name "Pitch" sounds familiar, but I can't think of where from. My mind begins to feel cloudier with each sip I take of the water.
"So where is your cousin, Pitch, from?" I ask.
"Oh… Burgess," Eris says slowly. Her breath smells like a hundred year old wine cooler. The statement she just said, loses it's hold on my mind. Burgess? Hah! I am from Burgess! Who du thunk it!
My words begin to slur and my brain loses track of time. How long have I been gone? Is it morning yet? The world around me seems to slow down and leer back and forth in this dark passageway. Wait, when did we get here?
Before I know what's happening, I see Eris in front of me, my arm blocking her way to the hall, her back against the wall. With a gulp of air, my lips touch hers and I allow my foggy mind to drift. To let Eris do what she wants.
A single thought of sobriety runs through my mind. Eris put vodka into your drink and now you're drunk, nice one, dumbass. I ignore the thought and allow my mind to drift as Eris kisses me slowly. I break off from the kiss and allow and wobbly smile to hit my face. I teeter down the hallway and recognize it. This is... that hotel thingy. Rapunzel must be around here... erm somewhere. With my blurry vision, I find my hotel room, open the door, and shut it, somehow quietly. Rapunzel's sleeping figure is in the farthest bed. I resist the urge to jump into the same bed with her and instead, fall onto the oppisite bed, fully clothed and probably stinking. I drift off to sleep still thinking about the shady night. The holes in my memory. How I got back to the hotel in one piece. Then the burning alcohol runs over my mind and I drift off into a dizzy sleep.
Ouch, Jack, you sly dog!
Explanation of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot:
So it's apart of the phonetic alphabet and standing in for What the F**k in WTF. You got it? Get it. Got it. Good!
Sorry I'm weak around caffeine, and books, and horses. I'm going to go sleep for a month!
