longest chapter yet! whooho! I'd actually like to request some constructive critism on this, either review or send me a PM please, tell me what you like an what you don't.
On another note, I just got my first threat *bows* thank you Eggman Hater, and I apoligize, I'm just telling the story the way they told me.
The wind rushed past, sifting through his fur and ridding it of any dirt or leaves he had picked up during the night. Carefully he lifted turned his head to the side to look.
The sky was just beginning to be tinged with orange and purple to show that the sun was rising, and stars still shone on the opposite side. He glanced down at what was carrying him through the sky at nearly the same speed he could reach on land.
The thunder dragon kept silent beneath him as it began to circle, slowing down and searching for a spot to land.
Right after they'd been rushed, the dragon had suddenly ducked between his legs and stood, causing him to tumble onto it's back. Before it had taken off in flight towards the camp.
Sonic tumbled off onto the ground with an 'oof' as the dragon landed, he waved just as it suddenly took off again, wanting to keep from getting attacked again.
He stood and yawned, stretching out the kinks from sleeping on the ground, before walked into the tent where he'd been while Shadow had healed him.
Sitting with his back to him was Shadow. He gave a small grin and walked over.
"Hey, pal. How ya doing?" Almost immediately the hand that he'd been about to place on the black shoulder was grabbed and Shadow was staring straight into his own eyes.
"Where have you been?" He asked.
His ears tilted back slightly as he attempted to break eye contact, "O-out."
"I realize that." Shadow said, still holding onto the peach wrist. "Where 'out'?"
Alright time to twist the truth a tiny bit, "I heard something in the woods and I was still tired, all I meant to do was sit down for a bit…"
Shadow sighed and released his wrist, "Of course, it was my fault. I should have warned you before, or stayed with you."
Sonic gave a small smile and chuckled, "Didn't know you cared."
"I don't." Shadow said simply as he stood, "The echidna's were beginning to get impatient, I'll go tell them you've returned."
He doesn't care? Quickly the blue hero shook his head. Since when did he care what anyone thought, much less Shadow, they'd just become friends a week or two ago anyways. Forcing a smile he caught up to the darker hedgehog.
"There's something I forgot to tell you." He said placing his hands behind his back and letting them hit him every other step, "On my way back, I saw a skunk with some Tasmanian devils, he tried to catch me and he might've been able to follow me back."
Shadow spun to face him, quills flaring, "Why didn't you tell me earlier, actually why did you lead them back here?!" Are you hurt?
A dragon forced me to come back. I thought you might be able to help. I was worried that they might've already got you. All of those were true, but Shadow wouldn't believe any of them.
"Idiot." Shadow suddenly said angrily.
"Well Mr. High and Mighty Ultimate Lifeform." Sonic suddenly hissed angrily. He was fed up with it, he'd been trying to help the hedgehog for years now, he'd gotten cursed… images of things he didn't remember suddenly flew into his head, a burning village, a battlefield filled with humans and Mobians fighting to the death… "I'm sorry that I was worried that they'd already come and you were hurt!" His face suddenly contorted into a painful grimace.
Shadow frowned and stepped forward before sighing, "I apologize Sonic, it was not your fault, I appreciate your concern." When the look stayed he walked over and held onto a blue shoulder. Sonic turned around and pulled a small arrow out of his back before collapsing.
"Oh" was all he had a chance to say before he also crumpled onto the ground.

His back hurt.
At the moment that was all he could process. Rolling onto his side, the soft fabric of whatever he was on pressing into the side of his face, he reached back and felt. Right where the base of his back quills melded into his fur was a small bandage.
Confused when he felt another material he moved his hand over, a silky material met his fingers and he rolled back over, ignoring the sting, as he opened his eyes.
Black marble with yellow veins throughout it made up the ceiling, wall, and floor, at least the part he could see from under the rug.
Bookshelves lined two of the walls and a desk rested at the other, only the door on the forth one. The bed had four posts with what looked like red curtains around it for privacy, only now they were tied to the posts, the mattress and himself were covered by a light green blanket, made out of satin or something of the like.
A light brown squirrel with long red hair and blue eyes wearing a light blue dress caught his eyes as he rolled to face her.
"Ha." Not liking how high his voice sounded he stopped and cleared his throat, "Hello?" Apparently his voice was not going to change right now.
"You're awake." She said happily and walked over.
His brows furrowed as his ears twitched, she sounded and looked way too much like the younger one in his dream.
"How are you feeling?" She asked.
"My back hurts a bit where the arrow hit," He gave her a small smile as she silently gasped, "But I'm fine. Where am I?"
"You're in, can you please flip over." She instructed, interrupting herself as he complied, "The king's castle. He was worried you and his son were captives or hurt, so he sent a bounty hunter after you. Fang was a little to enthusiastic if you ask me." She carefully felt around the wound. "Said you two had managed to escape where they kept you though. Some of Queen Aleena's troops had been on their way to intercept you two."
He gave a groan and buried his face into the pillow, "Great, me and Shads, the two people that every army just happens to be fighting over." I wonder if the original ones were having this much trouble.
She giggled at his comment and backed away, "Well, besides that you seem to be fine. Try and stand please."
Sonic nodded and flipped his bare feet to the floor before standing. Almost immediately he was forced to put on a blank face that would've been sure to make Shadow proud. "Please tell me, why I am wearing a dressing gown."

Knuckles stared up at the sky and watched as the red bi-plane he had heard earlier began to come into view. Far too later in the normally patient echidna's mind the plane landed and both Tails and Amy landed on the ground next to it.
Tails smiled and waved, "Knuckles, you said you had to show us something?"
The red guardian nodded and started to walk away, both Mobians trailing behind him, and they arrived at the base of the emerald shrine. He pulled back a bush and some vines to reveal a door, before turning and looking at both of them.
"I found them knocked out three days ago. They woke up yesterday and… you'll see."
He opened the door and led them through the maze until they arrived at a locked room. Knuckles motioned for them to step back and opened the door.
Almost immediately a foot shot out at his head and another person tackled the first. There were a few minutes of scuffling before everything fell silent.
Knuckles walked in with Amy and Tails still behind him, only for the last two to freeze at the sight in front of them.
At first sight it looked like Sonic and Shadow sitting across each other in the room, unless you noticed the small differences. Shadow looked younger and not as rough, while the numerous scars Sonic had gained over the years, which were visible in low light, had all seemed to disappear.
The blue one directed his attention to Knuckles and glared, causing the echidna to huff, "What is it this time."
His glare deepened, "You left me in here with him!" Cue accusing finger pointing at the black and red one, "Do you know how many times he's tried to kill me so far?! I want to speak with Athier."
Knuckles groaned and ran a hand down his face, "Athier has been dead for five years, I don't even know how you know his name."
He huffed and turned away pouting.
Knuckles led them back outside away from the pouting blue and the silent black, "They've been like that since they woke up, Sonic keeps asking to see echidnas that died years ago and Shadow… at first he would threaten me, like saying that his father's army would avenge him, then he just went silent."
All three fell into a silence that echoed through the tunnel before Tails spoke up.
"We have to figure out what happened to them." He suddenly snapped his fingers and turned to Knuckles, "Do you have records from right before the great war?"
"Of course." The confused echidna answered, "Don't you on the surface too though?"
"Eggman's great grandfather destroyed all of them."
"Why do you need them anyways?"
"This might have happened before." Tails answered as Knuckles began to lead them farther in, "If it has, than we know what's wrong with them." If it's them

To him it was as if time was repeating itself. Once again he was staring out the window towards the direction of the village. This time; however, he was not wondering where he was, instead his thoughts were preoccupied with his younger counterpart.
Sonic gave a small smile and chuckled, "Didn't know you cared."
"I don't."
Why did he feel so… guilty?
Hurt flashed through green eyes before the other could hide it, as he turned and walked out of the tent.
He'd said much worse things to people before and never felt like this.
"I'm sorry I was worried that you were hurt!"
Glaring at the window in front of him he quickly tried to block out the memories of the day, instead his mind simply did a three sixty and turned back to the blue hedgehog. Lately he'd been spending more time around him, taking him up on nearly every time the other asked to race, what had simply been annoyances to him, and even offering to train him. He gave a small chuckle as he remembered why he'd originally offered. Rouge had dragged him to a dinner the group had had and Amy had been clinging to the hero more than usual because he'd been off on a trip with Tails. A strange feeling had swelled in his stomach and before he knew it he had dragged Sonic outside and asked if the blue one wanted to learn how to use his powers.
He smirked as the thought of his surprised face came to mind, only to snap back into the real world as a voice interrupted him.
"Thinking about the knight?"
He turned and watched carefully, sitting on the couch was the same creature that had claimed he was the son of Black Doom and his father four days back, he was taller now though and reminded the black hedgehog of the alien more than ever.
"Why do you assume that?" he asked as he leaned against the wall.
The king only smirked and stood, "Come down to the throne room when she's awake, I'd like to speak with both of you." With that said he stepped outside of the room and closed the door.
He let a look of confusion onto his face. She?
